Yes they do pack in the bark a lot to fill up soil bags. I try to make my own mixture with worm castings, compost and manure too. :)

Oh no that's a shame. I guess you can't have one without the other as they both like damp soil. I had a mole cricket in my raised beds for a couple of years eating at my potatoes, But last summer they weren't there. Hopefully they don't come back.. Hope you are going well Katsu..
