All I can say is it's nice for my Wii U to finally get some use
Ah I remember the Gamecube days. A good amount of Nintendo games ran at 60fps and looked better than most other games. Metroid Prime for example is fantastic looking game to this day especially with emulators and it's also technically amazing. F Zero ran great as well as Tales of Symphonia. There are many other examples.
@Paladin Joe Botw is a fantastic looking game as well.
I would say the artstyle carries it. Graphically it's not that great. Pop in is pretty blatent. AA is pretty bad. I do like the art though. Zelda is a little too anime though. Metroid Prime on the other hand for the time was fantastic looking not really any other shooters were on par with it.
@Paladin Joe graphically it is great, because the art style is beautiful everything looks so nice, the way the lighting shines on the wet grass at sunset is so good I've not seen anything like it in other games.
Paladin Joe 60fps on gamecube? man zelda mario metroid was in 30fps xd
Paladin Joe F-Zero on GC was a Sega game, not Nintendo developed neither was Metroid Prime. I think in that era other developers knew their hardware better than Nintendo themselves.
Something that I tested on Wii U... framerate issues are gone when you play the game on game pad (did only couple tests). Guess the resolution drop helps there :)
Been playing on wii u since launch of BOTW. Didn't really bother me that much. Was not going to pay 500$ just for 5-8 more fps..
you werent paying for more fps you were paying for almost double the render resolution you fucking ape.
Its 2017 and we are seeing a 2017 console vs a 2012 console
Rohan Garg i know right, and the gameplay/framerate is practically the same. pretty disappointing to be honest.
Rohan Garg um that's because the same game is on both systems? lol
CME-LFT the Switch version is meant to be a direct port so obviously it won't have any graphical or technical improvements lol (although the game does run better for the most part on Switch).
Why's this so hard to grasp? :/
If you want an open world game that showcases the power of the Switch, wait for Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Sid Patil The game should atleast run at 1080p on Switch and it is struggling at 900p lmao
But you cant play your Wii U on the bus can you?
The Switch is basically a full HD Wii U - in a pocketable format.
Thanks for the comparison, DigitalFoundry! This and your 3DS vs New 3DS are why I subscribe. Really interesting to see how these two versions stack up to each other. Wouldn't be surprised if in a few years we see some form of "remastered" or "goty" version. And I'm sure you'll get some way to directly record from the switch screen as well as time passes. :)
A funny thing: framerate drops caused by large explosions and the like are something somewhat enjoyable to me. It gives me a sense of power: I`m doing something so incredible that the game can`t handle my awesomeness. Anyone else?
I'm loving the Wii U version...I only have or notice drops in towns, which doesn't bother me at all...
Nope. Go buy some glasses.
IM USED TO SHIT FRAMERATES SO ITS GOOD!
I'm also loving the wii U version. The low framerates can be bothersome at times, but the game is too good to skip because of it.
Same here. I only just reached Zora's Domain. As far as towns go, Kakariko Village is the place where I've encountered most of the framerate drops I've experienced on the Wii U. I hardly noticed them in Hateno Village or Zora's Domain.
The game is simply too damn amazing to care.
Convinced me to buy the Wii U version. The small resolution bump and small performance improvements are not worth a new console.
Enjoy Kakariko Village.
Conexión Gamer lmao im sad to say that you get used to it. but id rather have a few more performance drops than drop $400 for a slight bump in resolution and performance
Wise choice dude, i'm sure you will buy the Switch at the right moment, when there will be more games and a price drop, hell even better you will maybe get it in a revised version without some flaws and with even better addition.
aieden boy Forget that. I'm 100% going to get a PS4 for Persona 5. No doubt. And I really want to play Ni Oh as well.... But the main reason is Persona 5. Without P5, no PS4.
I'm on Wii U and I hate Kakariko Village, staying in that village hurts my eyes, if you can go get a switch. Nintendo will probably continue to update and patch the Switch version for better performance much like Witcher 3, but the Wii U is done for, the console is literally choking on these graphics.
Can’t believe it’s been this long since this came out. Almost a decade.
7 years is not almost a decade it’s just 7 years
@@latortugapicante719It's close
The frame rate reminds me of when i was playing fallout 4 on the ps4.
Reminds me when i was playing at 0 fps on xbox1
I'm not being combative, but have you actually played BOTW on Switch yet? The frame rate dips are barely noticeable to me. I've only had maybe one or two times in deep woods areas that it dipped to maybe 25 fps for a second or two.
that is Bethesda's shit engine in action, if they use that dated peice of dung engine again i will laugh
Bethesda is a piece of Shit,Looks at Horizon the graphics is a lot better than a garbage FALLFAIL 4 thar graphics is a OLD gen and textures is terrible, Horizon has the one of best graphics at 30 solid fps, I always avoid multiplat games cause the dev are so LAZY on the last gen they blamed PS3 for a bad graphics and performance, so now they are doing the same thing
Barney which engine are they using?
Have only been playing on the Wii U tablet so far and haven't noticed any drops. Might get a chance to play fully on the TV this weekend to see the performance.
I'm waiting for the cemu team to bring us this beauty at 4k 60fps. GLORIOUS PC MASTER RACE
muguripon Same.
Hey Dave,this is everyone here!!.
T0x!c DoohNUT - Reminds me of when ppl trolled Austin Evans in the comments saying: "Hey Austin, this is guys" 😁😂
where are the ryzen benchmarks?
Daxter This is a console channel now.
??
Can barely start youtube without seeing a new Ryzen benchmark. Maybe you should follow more then one channel, or at least give it a try.
RyZen is a disappointment. There.
Billy You are a dissapointment
Rem ko Oh... so clever. You got me there. 😏
I'm actually impressed the game is running "not that bad" on Wii U. They did an incredible optimization there.
Shit thats it? The comments would have you believe its 20 fps all the damn time!
It's not, but it is for extended periods of time. People forget that the villages in this game are absolutely massive in some cases (one basically being bigger than all of OOT's Hyrule Field) which means spending a good 20 minutes + at sub-optimal framerates as you move across these gargantuan fps sinks.
uuuh it hits 20fps MANY times in a playthrough..it isnt "all the damn time," but its pretty fucking bad. dont pretend like it isnt -_-
@ShezaanA Abdulla I've only experienced 2 frame rate drops in the whole game and that was right at the beginning nothing has bugged me since.
Stiff Kun Unfortunately Digital foundry is mostly used for fanboy's agenda on games.
***** Looks playable to me. I'd hit it.
I think I'll stick with handheld mode, it also makes the lack of Anti aliasing less noticeable
Super late but yes I noticed this as well. The pixel density especially on handheld makes a big difference.
A question for DF, you say yesterday you cannot show the time graph for Dragon Quest Heroes in portable mode but here you are showing a time graph of Zelda in portable mode.
did they say this was portable mode?
Iggsy81 At 3:30 they compared the frame rate while docked and undocked
CodeNameZ they explained why.
Anyone else miss Dave ? I do.. poor Dave. I wonder what he's up to now
20fps on a last gen game ported to brand new hardware is unacceptable.
Does anybody know the tflop of the switch? Is it over 1 tflop?
Lawrence Newman. +budum tssss+ Exactly why I just bought the Wii U version. With awful performance, hardware issues and lack of third part support, the Switch was DoA. And that's coming from a Nintendo fan.
Simon Smith
400 Gflops undocked
800 Gflops docked
Muhammad saws war pädophil na und? I've not been particularly impressed with your baiting in these comments, but THAT was good.
sonicmuffy c:
It is supposed to work at higher clocks while docked.
@@Tomato-lr2yu 1 teraflop in FP16
the frame drops wouldn't bother me in towns either, but I get them when in combat at times, and not with explosives, just in the middle of a fight with melee weapons. This part annoys me a lot, on the Wii U.
So the Switch is the Wii U Pro but portable...
I'm glad someone else realizes this. They refined the tablet idea for a home console and came up with the Switch.
Ricardo Contreras nah.
Switch has:
> modern architecture and software support hence easy to develop and port to.
> third party support and a much larger interest from indies
> better marketing
So certainly not comparable to the Wii U.
Ricardo Contreras the switch is not the Wii U pro. Unlike PS4 Pro where every game for it must also come out for base PS4, the vast majority of Switch games will NEVER come out for Wii U
Sid Patil
1-No, it's running an old as Maxwell Tegra X1, not even the new Pascal ones. Which are more powerful and energy efficient.
2-They have no third party support. They have third party promises. And most of them are just promising to re-release old games *cough*skyrim*cough*
3-True.
It's basically a revamped WiiU tablet, don't be fooled.
I wish it was all it was hyped up to be but Nintendo essentially pulled a Peter Molyneux on us.
Yet it is held back if all switch titles have to be able to be played portably. That makes it be held back even more than PS4 Pro is by the PS4.
Thanks for another stellar video DF
Are you guys working on a Ghost Recon vid now that the game is out?
Do one on the latest patch, please!
Thanks for answering my 720p output when docked question from the last video
This game looks interesting and fun but the frame rate issues can't be ignored. I feel like it should be a 9.5 and not a perfect 10/10. But thats just an opinion. I've been playing a lot of Horizon and its fun but it isn't perfect either. Its obvious both these games are really good. I can't understand why people have to hate or love, one or the other.
Storme Prince What I meant is, "for me", a game with such a noticeable frame rate issue shouldn't get a 10/10. I would say that for any other game with a 10/10 too. And the fact that you yourself say 10/10 doesn't mean perfect also shows how useless this score system is when it comes to reviews. Which is why I prefer a positive or negative system. Like the steam system. But you need to look for the useful reviews, where the person has spent many hours and has a detailed explanation of things they liked or disliked.
Hugo Stiglitz Mm you you, you said
Hugo Stiglitz Mm the frame rate issue is mostly from the Wii U version. The reviewers played the switch version which rarely dips below 30fps
Emmanuel Santos Yes, I said. Shocker right? People with opinions.
RydarGames The dips were present in both actually. As shown in this video. They're just in different places. But for some odd reason portable is much more stable than docked.
I'd like to see a comparison on Death Mountain. At least on the WiiU, the poor GPU can't handle it and the penultimate moblin fight before the dungeon, right next to max particle effects and lava and all that stuff, turns into a slideshow on critical hits.
hfff i want hello everyone Richard from digital foundry here
Seems like the detail on tree's etc is higher on wii-u?
I only will buy the switch after the price cut.
This is a big oof
still waiting i see? xd
Nintendo price cuts, good one
Lol
this had to be a joke.
Comment section summary:
A 2017 games doesn't run in 4k 60fps on hardware comparable to the ps3 and Xbox 360.
FPS drops in a huge open world on a 300$ tablet (With included controllers etc) is the END of the world because 25 fps once a fortnight is so bad
20fps for a brand new console released in 2017. Without even hitting 1080p. While being an exclusive. Okay.
its like a flashback to playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate on the ps4. 20 fps greatness
Rick Roll Assassins Creed sucks dick though
It is a Wii U port! No build directly for the Switch hardware.
Magyar Horvath um Syndicate does run at 900p on PS4 and XB1 lol
MMOGrind wat. It's rarely 20 fps on Switch (Wii U, I agree), most of the time it's at 30 :/ did you even watch the video? lol
Why is the WiiU Link packed with all kinds of equipment and the Switch's Link the same like when you start with the game?
I really want to get this for my Wii U but I'm horrified by this performance.
MGsubbie. I'm 30 hours in and the only real drops I've had are in towns, which is pretty irrelevant since it's pretty laid back... Never had any frame issues while fighting.. Only when an enemy explodes... It's addictive as heck...
John James Rambo, I'm not really seeing an issue with gameplay... Frame timings are super stable, and controls stay perfrctly responsive... I don't have a frame counter running at all times... Unless it becomes unplayable, I'm fine with it... If I can enjoy Shadow of the Colossus at 12 fps on PS2, I'll be just fine the what I have here...
John James Rambo, why do you have to go on the attack???... I'm just saying I'm perfectly happy with what I'm playing... You say it's one of the best games you've ever played, yet it sucks because of framerate dips??? Nobody should be that dang anal about something they otherwise enjoy...
The framerate is horrible during the temples.
@Beavernator They can be that anal on this channel xD gawd, i wandered how these people even played games in the past. lol
I feel like you might need a larger sample size of examples in your comparison; in my experience Kakariko village can have very noticeable sustained drops on the Switch in docked mode. When I first visited the village it was raining, and it seemed the whole village was locked to 20fps, possibly dropping below even that in some areas. Weather and time of day seem to be the big factors slowing the Switch down, particularly in combination with dense vegetation and lakes/standing water - I often notice performance dropping when the rains come in over grassy plains, and some of the foggy jungle areas to the southeast rarely hit 30fps (they also slow down undocked, though to a lesser extent). Oh, and there's a wooded area to the north which always runs at about 20fps regardless of time of day (I suspect because it's always foggy).
I'd be curious to see if my experiences match yours once you've spent some more time with the game - and whether the Wii U really does fare any worse in these areas.
2017 and consoles can't even do 30fps.
The switch wasn't meant to be powerful is was meant to be innovative and the wii u is old so obviously it's gonna drop frames
Thanks for another amazing video. Great analysis. All questions answered I'll say.
The thing i hate about Nintendo the most is their lack of communication. This game is brilliant, but it has substantial framerate problems and we don't know if they can address them or not, or if they are even working on it. I really want to enjoy this game...but damn! 😠
Luke Phoenix They did communicate about the frame rate and resolution since E3. They told the public that they were trying to get it to run at 1080p, but at least maintain the frame rate at 30 fps.
What i wanted to say is that most of the software houses out there, once the game is out and has issues like framerate and stuff, write a post, a tweet, a message on a forum or wherever they want to let the people who bought their product know that they are aware of the issues and are working to patch them.
Luke Phoenix Ah true. I have not heard anything after launch. I would like to hear if they are working on it now. It's been great on my Switch docked, but it would be awesome if they could get it running even smoother.
As for me it's fantastic in Switch portable mode, with almost no dips, but in docked is always 20 fps 😢
Luke Phoenix It's almost always 30 fps for me, but the few occasional drops don't last long for me, maybe a second or two. I can't imagine why it would run so much worse for you. A trick I sometimes do that might help is to move the camera slightly up or down. Still it's the exception for me. I'm currently in Hateno Village.
Korok Forest might have been the area that I felt struggled the most on Wii U after finishing the game there myself. It might also be worth testing the storage method used on Wii U for the game. I'm running the digital version on a USB Kingston DTSE9 32GB, and the music, cutscenes and even loading the menus often stutter. I wonder how much better it would run on a much better USB flash memory device, SSD and regular mechanical drive.
20 fps > 30 fps - more cinematic
Assasin creed reference?
Tbh why don't we play at 1fps? it would look so awesome like a comic book!!!
Karol Jampolski L
Purgatori Sakkara Hahahaha!
if my games don't look like a powerpoint presentation.. unplayable
It's also important to note that the Switch Version is running at a higher resolution when docked, which may lead to more framerate drops, so it's not necessarily a 1-1 ratio. It's like comparing early PS4/XBONE games, where they ran at 1080p on PS4 and 900p on XBONE. Of course the performance is going to be similar, one version is running at higher settings. And as we all know, console hardware isn't the best, so any change in settings is generally taxing on the machines.
Sub 60 fps in 2017 is a joke.
OPEN WORLD GAMES ON CONSOLE WILL NEVER REACH 60FPS DUE TO THEIR CPUS
Deus Knight Well there's Minecraft
Metal Gear Solid 5
what do you mean? there's many sub 60 games (exclusively on consoles) That have been good. Certainly not a "joke"
Deus Knight Cop the Recruit on DS runs at 60 fps and it was open world fully 3d game.
Fast RMX when are you testing it?
give it couple of months and Cemu will be the best way to play Zelda
In your dreams, mora like 5 years, even the developers say is gonna take years until is clean of issues
@@Olamellamoalex now that its been 2 years i can happily say you were very wrong didn't even take them 2 years took them less and i can run it at a solid 60fps (fps capped) at around 4kish
When you create a video like that, use a background music with less dynamic so that the loop of certain sections don't become so extremely noticable. Use background music that is more constant!
just wondering, zelda enemy doest look diverse at all. The kubold only get recolour and that all. Correct me if i am wrong. How money different type of monster in this game?
At the top of my head I can think of only 11 unique enemy types. 10 of which all have various reskins
really?
In terms of combat variety, the weapon used by the enemy is relevant. E.g any rank lizalfos with a spear has a different moveset to a lizalfos with a 1h weapon.
The AI seems to react accordingly e.g the spear user will attack head on while 1h users move to flank you.
Can you test if setting the Wii U to 1080i actually improves things?
the game is absolutely amazing...you wouldn't know that if you didn't play it. however, the frame drops are disappointing to me.
Will you do another stress test for compared the difference between the 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 of Breath of the Wild ?
Don't worry. CEMU will soon have BOTW running at 4k.
if by soon you mean 6 months, yeh soon,
lets be honest here it is going to take a while
No, not 6 months. Tremendous progress has been made in less than a week since launch.
I wonder how easy or hard it will be to emulate Switch - it is basically a typical Android hardware, normal ARM CPU with normal Open GL/Vulcan GPU. Portable Shield TV basically.
lets be real here, the developer of cemu even said it would take months/year before it is at a properly playable state, many issues that have to be fixed.
+Tomasz Kucza yeh, lets hope it is easier to emulate than the wii/wii u, pretty sure nintendo would have found ways to make the switch hard to emulate tho, we all know there stance on emulation
I remember when 20FPS was very acceptable for games. The Wii U version looks great and for what the Wii U is it runs fine. The switch is a little better, but not a night and day difference. This game is one of the best games ever.
Idk how people can say they don't mind these drops. This game looks unplayable...
there's some dumbass trying to tell me and a another guy that this game runs 60fps on switch so I send him / her this video and he / she hasn't respond yet lol
Digital Foundry, will you be covering the PS4 Pro support for No Man's Sky?
Best game ever, some framerate issues don't prevent it from being spectacularly good.
I have never played anything better than this, best Open World ever done by far, and probably best game ever done period, is unbelievable how good this game is.
frame rate issues dont exist on pc, rip nintendo buyers
+Sebastian Martinez *looks at Dishonored 2 and Batman arkham knight*
The best game ever doesn't exists on PC though
Yes they do lol did you not play dark souls or batman arkham knight on release?
Analizing the game in portable mode frame by frame for drops? You guys are pretty damn dedicated! How can I sub more than once!
Nintendo know how to make great games but not great console
Worse yet, they know how to make great consoles - they just refuse to spend the money and increase their own risk
Playstation always had less graphics than nintendo's hardware and sold well, so they probably thought "hey graphics don't matter after all" and made the wii. And I like this change because now nintendo can focus on 1 console and develop more games, which means pokemon will finally be playable on the tv.
PS4 and Xbone are low end PCs.
Switch is the most powerful portable gaming device in history. So shut up.
Conexión Gamer Because it's the newest
Could you guys just do a frame-rate test on CSGO with a Titan X for fun? Just to see a line in the graph hovering around 200 fps would be cool.
I'd hope it's higher than that... my GTX980 has no issues running that game at 200fps ;p Unless we're talking 4K of course.
I have no idea how well CSGO actually runs since I'm forced to use vsync, but it probably is even higher at 1080p etc indeed.
You know if this was Sony or Microsoft they would get so much shit yet because it's Nintendo and the mighty "Zelda" it's all okay? The fuck
I give the game a 6/10 with performance issues included in my rating. It most definitely does detract from the game. It always does. It's just the matter of whether or not you choose to get over it.
ummm no people are saying it for this too lol...and Just more understandable really if we comparing power wise
daniel shuter The truth is that the ignorant media and PS/Xbox fanboys hate on Switch for not being an underpowered PC that plays mature FPS.
If Sony made the Switch I bet the Sony fanboys would be sucking it.
You do know all those reviews are biased no ? They all got free shit and a contract with Nintendo. The contract clearly states if you're in their RUclips program that you can't talk 2 negatively about their products. If i were you i would read up on that and you'd know all those reviews are biased !!!
daniel shuter If this was not named "Zelda", it would actually be less hated. Just look at Rime. What bothers you is that it's made by Nintendo, and so it's an exclusive and you can't play. Quote the minor drops is just a way to hate something, because in everything else is really perfect. It was also developed for the Wii U, it can't simply be better, graphical-wise.
Like I wrote in the previous video, I'm tired of 30fps console versions but I haven't felt at all the framerate get in the way of my enjoyment of Zelda on Wii U. It's a great game. 30 fps sucks no matter what but I thought these dips would bother me. They don't.
Fuck 30fps
10/10 my ass.
Is the tested Wii U version the download version or did you use the retail disc version (with 3GB cache download). In theory the disc version can stream from the download cache and the disc. Wouldn't that help loading in parts of the world?
Harry Bosch Maybe. I have to test it out when I get the game.
Harry Bosch Maybe. I have to test it out when I get the game.
As a Zelda fan and someone who loves this game, it's overrated as hell.
Good vid guys, quick question, do you think you'll ever have a better way to capture and analyze the Portable mode on Switch?
BoTW shows that a game doesn't needs to be 60fps and 1080p to be rated one of the best games of all time by both critics and fans. I'm both a PC and Nintendo gamer and got to play both Witcher 3 and Zelda and i have got to say that Zelda's open world is much more ambitious than Witcher's and it's a miracle we get to play such a incredible game on the go. It's sad that people only concentrate in the negatives and hence missed out on one of the best games of all time. Nintendo can easily make a powerful console but that's not their aim. The aim is to innovate and to make their console unique from others and they did it. We NEED Nintendo in the console race, we need competition so as to push both Microsoft and Sony to do better. Who knows? If the Switch succeeds, we might get a Sony version.
BS The Witcer 3 open world is 10x better. Breath of the Wild is great, but i seriously cant understand how anyone can think this game is better. Almost nothing to do but shrines, bandits camps, and the side quests are some of the worst side quests ive experienced in a open world game since FF15.
But Zelda THO!
BoTW's open world is the 1st time i feel like i can literally go anywhere. Wanna go on top of the mountain? You can!
A wall is blocking you? Climb it! See something over the horizon?
Glide over it! And most of the times, you will be rewarded with secrets and collectibles. And unlike other open world games, the map isn't filled with clutter and icons. Instead of using on the map, you have to rely on exploring. Rather than having each encounter be a chore just to 100% it, the game is about experimentation and adventure. It easily has the best physics in any open world game i have played, to the point that it's more comparable to something like Portal rather than say GTA. I did not have the chance to play Ocarina of Time back when it released but i can daresay that in the years to come, Breath of the Wild will be my Ocarina of Time.
Skyfire You see you can do all of that in any GTA game. Skyrim, The Witcher 3... all of these games do the same shit. The problem im having with Zelda rigjt now is whats the point of exploration if there is nothing to do. There is literally two things to do in the open world. Shrines, and bandit camps. Again nothing new to the genre.
I hate fanboys.. they are so blind.. the World in Zelda BOTW is empty.. so empty that is sad.. but because they see the word "Zelda" in it they go crazy about things that 100 games did before.. fanboys are the worst
It's as if Nintendo isn't even trying to fix the framerate issues on Wii U just to make the Switch version look better.
Just make the game look a bit worse, I'm tired of the stuttering.
god damn y'all act like a 6.2 inch tablet is going to be able to run everything at 4k it's a portable console not a big ass gaming PC or the size of a Xbox
Hollow Soul some people just can't be pleased
Hollow Soul but come on the 2006 ps3 could probably run this game better idea understand if it was just portable mode that ran like this but this is garbage
Hallison Michel I think my galaxy s6 could probably run this game better lol
Hollow Soul This isn't console level of gameplay. It's a glorified tablet with a USB c to hdmi connector.
Hdhd Djdjdj I can't believe you think the ps3 would be able to run botw. what a stupid comment
I have the Wii U version and don't get frame drops at Kakariko
+A Google User I seriously doubt that.
It's true.
Is everyone here now just to shit on Nintendo again? It really gets tiring when people just don't want to understand that it's not a matter of weak hardware which makes the Switch port look almost the same as the Wii U version.
The Wii Uhas a ten-year old PowerPC architecture, Switch has probably Maxwell. The game was built completely for the Wii U, the decision on a Switch port was made one year ago, when the game was almost complete. The developers themselves said with the difference in architecture it is already a small wonder they made it run as well or slightly better than on Wii U, seeing as the latter is already known as being a mess to develop for.
That being said, I almost never noticed any major framerate issues until now, it's perfectly playable and doesn't hinder the immersion and gameplay whatsoever.
Manuel Aschoff The Switch is extremely underpowered... no matter how you look at it. The Xbox One and PS4 were extremely underpowered when they were released in 2013... And the Switch is weaker than both of them... And it was released in 2017. Kind of pathetic imo...
You know what's equally tiring? When people constantly defend what could quite possibly be the worst performing game I have ever played, just because of the brands "Nintendo" and "Zelda." You people are not helping gaming.
"worst performing game" You've got to be joking. It holds 30fps for the most part. You obviously didn't play Assassin's Creed Unity at launch (on any platform). The only areas that I can consistently get issues on are The Great Plateau (mostly the starting area, lots of foliage seem to fuck with the Switch) and Korok Forest (same deal, lots of trees, grass and bushes). Other than that I never noticed issues, and if I did, I couldn't get the game to do it again, it was just a small dip in performance for a couple of seconds and then it was gone.
I'm sorry that it ruined the game for you, personally I've had a blast with it. But I think it's a bit hyperbolic to say it performs horribly. But hey, maybe it is the worst performing game you've ever played, and you've just had the luck of avoiding terribly running games. Good on ya, because I see that all the time.
Wow then it is even more sad that the WiiU runs THIS bad ! Sorry but Nintendo deserves the hate, this game is far from finished, it looks mediocre and still has hefty fps drops (even on their new machine).
Personal opinion: I dont like the look of the game, this ancient/futuristic thingy wont fit on a Zelda
I also dislike the size/amount of the dungeons, i perfer quality over quantity, and a Zelda without large and complex dungeons is missing a huge chunk of what the series made that great.
It feels like they tried to make something like a mix between Zelda and a game like Skyrim or Oblivion, wich is a bit sad, because there are multiple games of that kind.
I personally never played the game, but i have seen much footage on RUclips, and it just does not feel like a classic Zelda anymore (at least to me).
It’d be amazing to have something along the lines of Apple‘s CPU and GPU array from the iPad Pro in a mobile console because they absolutely slay.
Poorly optimized, constant FPS drops & an empty world...
98% on metacritic. Gg
"an empty world" have you played the game? Not an empty world, sooo much to do and see!
nintendo seem to get a pass for having bad frame rates and crap graphics
Barney Sony nd Microsoft always have a pass when releasing "gimmick" features
It's okay when Nintendo does it.
gimmick features? nintendo is reliant on a gimmick every generation, wii mote = pathetic gimmick of a controller, and the switch is just a glorified nvidia shield that will have nintendo games on it
You have to remember that this is high resolution on a tablet, so this is amazing it's running so well.
so when others game have very good graphic but low fps, Nintendo fan said gameplay>graphic. when nintendo game release with low graphic and fps, they said "fps is not messing with the gameplay".
living in denial is what Nintendo fan always do. I dont think that switch gonna get that third party multiplatform game that much, and most dev gonna make the game like vita which less graphic and many, i mean many Visual novel game ahahah. Still, switch is ok if u disregard the console mode(that thing is trash) but battery gonna be the problem.
Azriq Haikal Actually the battery is perfectly fine. That's kind of the reason the console has these performance drops. Nintendo underclocked the GPU significantly than what it usually runs at, so that it can have good battery life.
TheFuzzyCreeper yeah. I know about the underclock. But to be able to play only 2.30hour in demanding game is kinda short imo. My gaming session usually around 6hour and need to be play with charge defeat the purpose for portable device. So powerbank is a must if u want to play it mainly in portable.
People always said that zelda is not the maximum capabilities of the switch but even nintendo said that zelda is a demanding game which in theory use all the processing that the switch have.
Azriq Haikal I completely understand. I have actually been able to get about 5 or so hours on my Switch. I turned the brightness down to about half way, and managed to last quite a long time! Lowering brightness really helps when it comes to how long the battery will last.
TheFuzzyCreeper ohh i see. Do u turn off anything else? Wifi etc etc. Does using a earphone contribute in longer battery life?
Azriq Haikal I will have to test with WiFi turned off. I wouldn't be surprised if it added quite a long time onto the battery life. And with headphones, I typically play with them, and they didn't seem to lower the amount of hours I had at all. :)
This is the perfect example of a great game strangled by the hardware it's on...
Anyone remerber Fallout 4?
The game that runs and looks like crap?
And yet if you say anything I mean even a sigle bad thing people ware attacking you in hordes and calling you a hater or not a real gamer.
I guess that is ok because it is a PS4 game
the draw distance is shite in fallout 4 too, when you look out to the distance the art style is so ugly it just makes everything look like a early ps2 game and there are glaring bugs when you look out of a window inside a loaded building which renders the outside world bland and empty.
Nobody protect Fallout 4 anymore cause everyone realize that game is a pile of garbage
जॉन सीना Jhon Sina Not really, I hang out with mostly Nintendo fans and they are really down the earth, yea there might be one or 2 person who says "that is ok" for everything but I think that is really few and far between.
I can talk normally to Xbox fans also but everytime I talk to a Playstation fan its like I am talking to someone who live in they own world and if you say anything they dont like you are called a fanboy
CodeNameZ Not every Playstation fan is like that. Stop generalize.
Brainless fanboy detected.
Maybe I just don't have an eye for it, but I've never noticed dropped frames when just moving through the environment on Wii U. I definitely have when in combat, such as swinging a claymore that hits five guys in quick succession and creates particles on all of them. I can only assume that minor dips in performance just aren't noticeable to me (I didn't notice any in this video, explosion aside).
I do not care what do you say, the game is freaking fantastic.
Muhammad saws war pädophil na und? Just drop it
+Muhammad saws war pädophil na und? Nice bait b
mikel9292 Says the guy with a Sans pic. How pathetic
hahaha you piece of shit...
Thanks for this video! Love your analysis and really does help to know if I should get the game on Wii U or wait to play on Switch. Love your work!!
ill wait until the game is fully playable on cemu then ill buy the wiiu version, right now the state of this game is a mess and unjoiable.
so you are going to wait for the emulated version and then you are going to buy it? i dont get it,
why buy the thing if you are only going to play it on the pc. seems a bit silly to me, buying something for the sake of buying something
Barney They probably want to support the devs, but play the better version of the game.
Barney So you are saying just because you want to play it better you should also pirate the game. I'm going to do the same. I have Wii U also. I just want the better experience. And if that craps on me I just insert the disc into my Wii U.
i have spent 10+ years buying games so i dont feel bad at all about pirating certain games,
couldnt care less tbh
those 'dev's' should be making better games then
Thanks for this test!
I personally think to have a game in 2017 running lower than 30fps is unacceptable really
Get use to it if you have a ps4
Rick Roll a game with this basic graphics shouldn't be lower than 30fps Eva let alone on a new console that came out a week ago
Horizon runs nearly perfectly and it's better looking than 99% of games out on the market currently. It's not the hardware that's a problem.
what good ps4 games drop to 20fps tho?
prof Norgatron i dont know why people are still choosing to buy these games. developers shouldnt be aiming for 30fps but 40fps so when it dips it hits 30fps at its lowest, and with frame lock no one would know the difference as it would never drop below 30.People keep saying its about gameplay not just graphics but low framerate affects gameplay.
I'm curious, does Nintendo copyright strike these videos?
-PS2 graphics.
-20fps.
-2017
It's o.k when nintendo does it.
It's ok when comes with the best game ever
aieden boy It's an underpowered tablet. Even an s7 would run Botw better than the crappy Switch. Get over it, it was a huge dissapointment with Nintendo. Zelda game is literally garbage with those fps and graphics. Could've been so much better, but it came up so trashlike
Yeah, so sad i'm telling you the truth
No fanboying over here, the performance is pretty inexcusable no matter which way you slice it. But...
PS2? I own a PS2. I know what PS2 games look like in their natural habitat. BotW does not look like a PS2 game. Either that, or you had the most godly PS2 of all time, in which case, wanna sell it? I'm buying.
And yes, I know what hyperbole is. I just find it asinine to blow technically subpar visuals so out of proportion. :U
Do you clearly remember framerate of Shadow of The Colossus?
Take note Breath of the wild was built from the ground up for the Wii u and than later on in development ported over the switch.
We gotta wait for a game that's built from the ground up on the switch instead of ports.
We have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to be released on the switch and its massive as you can see from the trailer and it probably was a Wii u game originally.
"Nintendo is now friend of 20fps"
- Facebook
"Amazing game. Perfect. 10/10"
- Reviewers and fanboys.
The funny think: The game has all the same camera problems of Final Fanatasy XV.
Every reviewer lowered the grade to Final Fantasy but with Zelda....
Maybe he wasn't on the mood or some crap
I love the game but the reviews were a bit suspicious. Come on, no game is 10/10. Especially not one with such poor textures and jagged edges.
Diogo Gutierre What camera problems does it have? I honestly haven't noticed anything bad or unusual about it, aside from the fact that it moves a little too slowly and stiffly for my tastes. But it hasn't gotten in my way or made me unable to see what I need to see.
Tomasz Kucza didn't know graphics were a factor of being a great game.
+Tomasz Kucza No reviewer goes with that criteria either; 10/10 does not mean flawless. No game is flawless. 10/10 means that the game is something extraordinary and the flaws it has do not hinder the experience on the grander scheme of things.
Would you guys mind returning to this game and stress testing Korok Forest? As I feel that area is more demand than Kakariko Village.
-adds nothing to the open world genre.
-barely any voice acting.
-generic monster design.
-side quests are boring .
-combat like any other game nowdays.
-mediocre story and characters.
-framedrops to 20 for long period of times.
-no AA ugly textures.
~10/10~ because it has the Zelda name on the box , and Nintendo paid alot of money .
aviv yakobi Exactly!
aviv yakobi shut up and play cod Lol
Is that really your argument against valid criticism? You Nintendo fanboys are so sensitive, LOL.
So your theory is that Nintendo paid off every reviewer of the game? It has a 98/100 metacritic averaging over 60 significant reviewers. Meaning the lowest score it got out of all those reviews was probably a 95/100 lol, but yeah Nintendo definitely just paid off everyone.
Honest question. Did you actually play the new zelda?
Great video guys :)
i think they should disable comments on this type of vidoes because i only see fanboying and don't see ppl with a actual good argument about hardware limits or anything else.
remember this is ported from the wii u to the switch in a later stage in development so there bound to be some issues docked.
BUT it can be fixed with a patch like i said there is something going on that won't fully use all GPU/CPU power in docked mode the GPU get's a 700Mhz plus boost while docked vs undocked and still get framerate drops what seems a bit odd it should not happen and i can be fixed it just take some time
The switch version seems bottlenecked by bandwith rather than CPU/GPU. Wouldn't be all that surprising, considering that docked mode only unlocks 30% more bandwith. It's still only half of what xone has, and running at similar resolutions (900p) it's easy to see why that would become a problem. If that's the case, I'm afraid they can't really fix it without cutting out foliage density and alpha effects.
RDilux the switch itself is just a big bottleneck, as great as the tegra chip is on mobiles it isn't made for gaming use, what I want to know is why they didn't use something like the igpu in the Intel chips, the newer ones are about 40-70% stronger than the tegra chip depending on what one you go for. Only reason I can see is money but it has so many issues on the console. For me it doesn't matter how good zelda is I can never play a game at 20fps, it would give me headaches amongst other things.
well i can safely say most of the time the game stays @30fps but the tegra X1 is so much stronger then this cmon the tegra console have games like borderlands 2 and MGS and even Doom 3 ( doom is a bit of a bad example but ok)
RDilux I can see arguments. Just ignore the fanboys.
you have to remember that the docked version of the switch is the only thing experiencing this frame lag. Portable mode rarely ever lags as it isnt overloaded
Playstation 4: Cinematic experience await.
i dont get why you are going after the ps4, xbox performance is worse
Because PS4 is still highly praised even though its as shit as xbox.
Enjoy Zelda on Playst... oh wait.
You better enjoy that on the Switch since it's the only game worth spending 50-60 bucks on
3:04
Wii U version way better. You'll know when you click ;P
want all games to be stable 60 fps? dont buy 30 fps (and less) games
Karol Jampolski that will never happen lol. If you want 60 fps on intensive games, stick to a PC.
Consoles can get away with 30 fps because the general consumer doesn't really care for such stuff, and it doesn't make the game unplayable in any way.
BOTW is 30 fps (drops here and there to 20s, but doesn't detract from gameplay at all) still it gets a 98 on Metacritic :P
whenever i played a 30 fps shooter on a console i just turned down difficulty to minimum and was running around meleeing everyone because aiming at 30 fps + gamepad controls is a nightmare, i dont know how people can do it, even 60 fps isn't that much, a lot of pc players are moving to 144hz screens just to get smoother performance and consoles are still stuck at 30 fps or below in 2017
The refresh rate of your screen has nothing to do with the framerate of the game. If it did then someone with a 60hz or 120hz TV could claim they're playing at 60 or 120fps which they're not.
Can you compare Skylanders on Switch & PS4?
Please Nintendo: Stop making consoles
Please pharmajo: Stop making comments
they actually did, since switch is a handheld that outputs to tv thx to docked mode, but all the power/hardware is in handheld, 0 in the dock
They made a Vita 2.0, gave it actual software support and a proper way to output to the TV.
Please Nintendo: Keep making handhelds like this.
pharmajo lol why?
So you would rather they make watered down PCs like PS4/XB1 and lose all sense of uniqueness and identity? lol
Also its not like they CAN'T make a powerful console, they're just not interested in that field (they actually did tho, the Switch is a powerful handheld, but since we're talking about home consoles)
BOOM ERANG h
The WiiU version seems to have some frame pacing/microstutter issues.
PS4 can't even run the game
yes it can, but at 19 fps
*insert cartridge in to PS4* It actually worked
I know it's a joke, but at the same time a very valid point. I love technical GPU eye-candy as much as the next guy, but this is a singular Nintendo game. You aren't going to play this anywhere so I find it odd that we get people in here "shitting" on Nintendo. I've played BOTW for probably 20 hours now and it's nothing short of a masterpiece.
PC can :)
Uh what? Are you talking about Wii U emulation? Good fucking luck with that getting the same experience up and running smoothly.
And... For a game like this that's nothing short of a piece of art you'd better support the creators by paying for the game. Just get it on Switch. It's worth it.
you should do an analysis on 1-2 switch
60fps is nice but not essential, the kids that cry about frame rate these days don't understand that, they just want fps and fancy graphics. With the Switch you get an amazing game that's even portable and perfectly playable on both. The entitled gamer of today needs to grow up and learn from the past and appreciate the brilliance of the Switch, it's why it's one of the biggest selling opening weekends of all time..
CEWIIH Yet the hardware is bad
Hey dudes I'm normally a stickler for game performance, but Breath of the Wild is an insanely great game and I HIGHLY recommend picking it up. I'm sure the reason why it doesn't run as well on Switch as we would have hoped is because it was made from the ground up for Wii U, which has a completely different architecture. It'll be interesting to see what we get in the way of the next Xenoblade, that'll probably be indicative of the console's actual power.
