Thank you for making this video. I’ve had a nepanthese for about 2 years now. It’s grown beautifully in my back patio but I came across this video because I wanted to fertilize it. I would’ve poured fertilizer in the soil lol.
I've seen great results using MaxSea. Just to offer my experience, I use the same 1/4 teaspoon per gallon formula, but I spray once a week rather than once a month. I haven't seen any ill effects. I spray it liberally on all my carnivorous plant species, including butterworts. In fact, I found that my P. moctezumaes were constantly flowering and shrinking in size until I began spraying them weekly, which immediately made them stop flowering and start growing large again.
Preston... Yep, I'm at 1/4 teaspoon a gallon once per week also, I have a twice per week study/test area set up and if I like the results that will be my new program. Either that or I'll have room for some new plants. LOL
I can confirm that 150 ppm concentration. My distilled water measured as expected at 0ppm. At one quarter level teaspoon in a gallon of distilled water the tds meter read 150ppm. Next time I will use that meter to mix up smaller batches. I only have a few CP in a twelve inch Panterra bowl. This will be my first time fertilizing these plants. I have been growing these successfully for six years.
Thanks for confirming this. I only have a few plants so only need a small amount of solution. I was trying to mix up a 500mL batch and it was difficult even with a jewelry scale. Ended up just pinching tiny amounts and bumping up the TDS until I hit 150-200...settled at 160ppm which is close enough for me.
I love these carnivorous plants😃 I just bought a pitcher and a Venus, but wanting much more for my collection. All plants are just absolutely amazing and unique in their own way! 🙆♀️ Thanks so much for sharing! I wasn't aware you could fertilize these.
Thank goodness some one else uses folia feeding. I use Powerfeed by Seasol and just the Seasol version, 1ml per litre of each into a sprayer. Although, I could use just the Powerfeed. Works great on my seedlings and pitcher plants. New sub for folia fertilising :)

thank you Brad for showing us how to use the Maxi fertilizer definitely learned a lot my house is a little bit warmer & humid I grow Mexican Pinguiculas so I don't want to risk it with them 🍃🍃😚🍃🍃
this was very helpful Brad. i'm new to the hobby and trying to understand what is possible. do you ever notice the Drosera losing dew in the days following feeding? in my early tests it almost seemed to "burn out" the tentacles to were they didn't produce dew. but it is also possible i did not have enough humidity at that time too.
Is there a seedling size of nepenthes that is too small to fertilize like this? I am brand new to nepenthes (just got a seedling of N. truncata x robcantleyi, N. robcantleyi king of spades X queen of hearts and N. vetchii. All are like about an inch in size. I have been growing orchids and other carnivorous plants for years but never tried nepenthes before. (grow venus flytraps, sundews, north american picture plants and darlingtonia. thanks for any info. great videos by the way!
I have realised today that there is the smale green slow fertilizer ball in thé orchid bark mix that i use for my nepenthes mix, is it really dramatic and i need To get my nepenthes out their pots to clean that or it can be ok and is not "that" dramatic?
Thanks Brad! Got a question... how could I possibly video chat with you sometime about my own collection as far as getting some insight and help with a few potential problems or setup ideas? I’m more than willing to pay and would love to. I’ve gotten past the point of keeping “regular” nepenthes and I’m getting in to spending a few hundred dollars a plant for some small highland Nepenthes and obviously want my plants to thrive and make sure my investment doesn’t slowly die! Thank you so much for posting the videos and just providing so much info to my little green, plant-obsessed heart! -Stephen Davis in Alabama
Does this work on fly traps? They seem to be the most complicated mine are growing well outdoors but I'm just winging it. The more I learn the more I realize how little I know and no one has any videos on fly traps not any really good growers like you anyways I'm using 20 grit pool sand in a 50/50 mix half pool sand half peat moss with about a inch of sphagnum moss in the bottoms of the pots I use rain water I collect which has a tds of around 12 depending. They are in full sun I have some really strong growers that have many many traps more than 30 per plant then I have some smaller ones that wont grow at all and they are slightly pale kind of a light lime green and I fertilize with diseaseEX by Scott's it's a yard anti fungal but I heard it boosts growth and it does but would this also help my fly traps grow I'm trying to get 2 inch traps but no luck my DC XL are 1.8 inches and my JAWS are 1.3 inches but all my other plants are just under an inch except my small ungrowing ones that are half an inch idk what in doing wrong.
If I only have an 8 oz spray bottle do you know how much Maxsea I should put? I know it’s going to be a really small amount but I am not sure how much/how to measure it.
Get a THS meter and add tiny amounts into distilled water and stir. Titrate up to 150ppm. If you over shoot, add some water to bring it down. Don't obsess over it. Just get it close enough. The THS meter an be used to test the water and verify that it is indeed distilled or soft enough to be safe. They are not expensive and are a very useful tool for gardeners and CP enthusiasts.

Thank you so much 🙏🏻 I had a big problem with the carnivorous plants and you fixed my problem Thank you so much
your welcome!

It's brilliant to see you back in the greenhouse again Brad. I was beginning to think you'd sold it! Keep up the great work.
thanks Ash!

Your amazon forest looks sooo beautiful!!! I would like to advise a better spray bottle that emits a thinner mist
Doesn’t matter
Back to school
@@Sara-xi2ug Okay boomer
Thinner mist doesn’t change leaf absorption.

I’ve been fertilizing my nepenthes with Maxsea. 5 ml in each pitcher every two weeks. Ppm of the fertilizer is 165. Would that be good?

I think it is more the lack of humidity
Which maxsea do I buy for feeding my Nepenthes?

Very useful video! I got some maxsea, so I'll start using on my plants :D Do you happen to know how much does the prepared solution lasts?
I wonder the same thing!
Thanks for the info 😊 Helpful to know about the algea/media issue. Just a quick note....it's foliar not folar feeding 🌱

where did you get that mister?

Can you foliar feed carnivorous plants with botanical teas like kelp/alfalfa or even compost teas? Thanks
sorry, i haven't tried. use extreme care

If I put the Pitcher plant to open air istead of Green House then any problem
Super helpful...thanks!
Critter Girl Your Welcome!
Can I feed my plants worms I have red wrigglers. Not sure if it would do any harm
Can we fertilize flytraps during winter months when their leaves are smaller? Or is there no need to do so during these times ?
I'd avoid doing it now and wait till spring
Hi brad can you do a request update on your cymbidium orchids please
Brad, what is the purple-flowered plant to the left of the Cephalotus in the video?
it is a utricularia blanchetii
why do use regular water. your suppose to use distilled or rain water
MMMMMAAAGNIFICA my god Brad! Are the roots popping out of bottom yet? When will you repot yours!
Mr.Personality Haha 😂
I thought i was supposed to put the fertilizer directly into the pitchers...
Worked :)
of course!
Where can I find stores that have those fertilizers in Vaughan? I'm growing a purple venus fly trap when I have the proper dirt
How many ppm for venus flytraps for maxsea.
6:50 That heliamphora was only
8.99?
I think it's a re-used pot. Great way to recycle!
Exactly
can I use this mixture on venus fly traps?
Yes. And by the way folks, California Carnivores now uses Schultz cactus fertilizer on pings instead of Maxsea. Damon says it's better on pings.
hi, is maxsea available in Calgary. please help where can i buy one. thank you.
Hey! I think I’m the only one in Canada that has it. It is on my website under supplies. www.Bradsgreenhouse.com
Hi! Do you sell plants in the Philippines?
he only sells in canada i believe
I didn't watch the whole video yet but how much water do you need?????!
