This was the inspiration for my career. Seems like just yesterday and it was nearly 40 years ago. Crazy.

Boris played the game with his whole heart - and I think lived up to the promise he made to himself - gave his life to the game as the best part of himself.

Bud Collins made me love tennis growing up in the 70s and 80s and his enthusiasm rubbed off on the US tennis program as well. He was a gifted sports journalist with the likes of Jim McKay and Howard Cosell.

I was in primary school the first time I saw Boris and predicted his win. My first sportsman crush. Sad, he's in so much financial trouble now..

My entire family is crazy about Boris back in those days. Sweet, innocent little boy with very strong serves and dives that no one does on the tennis court.

      “Little”?! He was a beast!
Agree with everything else you say though. He was a breath of fresh air after moody, arrogant players like Connors, McEnroe & Nastase who acted like they had a divine right to windows and screamed abuse at lines staff and umpires if the slightest decision didn’t go their way. Some people love to moan about ‘kids today being spoiled’ but the some of the players in the 80’s were the biggest brats ever. The modern players are far more modest and well behaved. Becker started the trend towards improved quality of behavior IMHO.

Boris Becker is perhaps the most innocent Tennis Champion in Wimbledon History.
His winning made the Tournament the greatest reason why Wimbedon is the grandest tennis place for Professiinals,

No, before Boris (and incidentally his idol and the reason he started playing tennis), there was a chap called Bjorn Borg. I've been lucky enough to meet both and both are cool characters.

Still bums me out that Kevin Curren lost this match. He never should have lost this match, IMHO.

Agreed: he was a huge favorite playing a rather (at the time) unknown kid. His best chance to win a slam went down the drain. However, Becker made 6 straight finals so this was not a fluke

Current was cool. But guys like Curren don't win Wimbledon. Sorry if this is mean, but it's true. Becker is a unique breed, unlike most.

Wimbledon winner at 17- after 50 lost all money and ended up in prison!!!
This gotta be the most spectacular fall in history of tennis 🎾
Borg and A . Sanchez also squandered their fortune 🔮 but at least no prison time for them 😄💰😜😂😄😃😀
