I'm so pleased for Pete, as his wish was for Sam to stay on opal mining. But I'm doubly pleased for Sam that he decided to stay, and also made enough to buy their house and settle down, and continue opal mining. I wish them all the best, and look forward to more of their finds.
@@chrisp2272 it actually increases there value so idk what your on about. If they had sold that rock as they found it, it would have sold for $10000-$20000 at most.

@@Dorfs you understand the concept of being lowed balled to the point where it's a rip off don't you? They take biggest risk financially and physically, do a vast majority of the work, and see the least amount of profit
Hate to break it to yall that dont know opal, if you look at 2:30 you can see the rough polishing marks on it. Most of this opal was planted for tv effect.
I saw this opal today in Vicky's shop at Lightning Ridge and let me tell you that no picture I have seen can do it justice. The colours are mesmerising and I couldn't stop looking at it. Unfortunately it is now sold, I believe, so it won't be on display for long. I did buy my daughter a beautiful set of green opal earings though that I know she will love at Christmas. The Down to Earth shop would sell some of the better opal jewellery in the Ridge.
They mine the rough opals themselves and then sell them to a suitable buyer. The buyer of the opal would then cut and polish it, to bring it's value up in order to sell for a profit to a jeweller or collector.
Probably for 300,000 by the looks of it. This is why I hate middle-men or middle-women in this case. Pete sold it for chump change. It's more than a once in a lifetime find.
I've entertained the idea of moving to the Land Down Under at some point in my life. 19 right now, and if I'm being honest Canada is starting to grind my gears.
Can someone that actually values opals please confirm whether these valuations are accurate and realistic? They just seem super high, like will the first 2 beautiful gems actually sell in a reasonable time frame for over $13k? It seems high, but I'm no expert haha
@@dickymcbutts7585 Okay that would make a lot more sense, I just imagined a $20k gemstone sitting there potentially for years before a buyer steps in to grab it. Thanks for the reply
These two different dudes are real Aussie blokes.... blardy hard workers and always achieve.
blardy? XD
Better than a higher education which isn’t worth anything
Lol the show is a joke
real aussie bogans
not really 99% of miners wont find stuff like that, which is why its so valuable that is a once in a lifetime find
Gotta say Opals are 100x prettier than diamonds.
Duh
YES
Diamonds are abundant and boring.
Also more rare diamonds are being made alot the moon is covered in them
I gotta say to opals are prettier than diamonds to

what an insane gem though. 2 different types of opals, merged into one.
No way that wouldn't bring closer to $1m usd at a mineral show or auction here in the States of America.
@@Tina-mt9cl the cut/polish kinda ruins it. Probably used the Dremel to grind out a lot of sand spots. Opal looks better as a cabochon
