    Another idea for getting brake fluid out of the reservoir is to use a rag to absorb it and squeeze it into a suitable container (one with a lid). No cutting necessary.

    I bought a used truck back when we were kids and me and my good buddy went for a drive out the back roads. The previous owner had dumb 22" chrome ebay wheels on it, and one of them broke in half when we hit a little pothole waaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere about 30 miles off the pavement. Of course there was no jack, no wheel wrench, and no spare tire in the thing lol I had just gotten it. We walked into the cold Canadian September night in our T-shirts and jeans for hours and finally got to cell service. Made a big fire and drank the rest of our beer waiting for a buddy to come get us. Got out of there about 3am. Just one of a hundred situations we got into back then. Good thing we carried lighters and were used to walking and being hungry, unlike the kids of today lol.

    If the person is somewhat familiar with their car, they can get fuel from the fuel rail without damaging anything. Even if the vehicle is not running, a time bit of fuel on a rag or in a small container can be used to help start a fire.

    If you drive a carbureted vehicle undo the fuel line to the carburetor and put a container under the fuel line you’ll be able to crank the vehicle and it will pour gas into your container if you cannot crank the vehicle or get it to turn over loosen it from your fuel filter and gravity will pour the rest into your container same with a a throttle body im sure fuel injection is the same way this way you can re connect your lines and not cause any potential drivability issues and can return if possible at a later date and repair your vehicle

    Good to go. I didn't know about the pool shock and brake fluid. I learned a different chemical reaction trick (which I will most definitely NOT be disclosing here because of, well, RUclips). All good advice if you're in a bind. I agree that siphoning is the best bet (Edit: if you decide to use gas). Although many newer cars have anti-siphon screens in the fill pipe, it's possible to get around that if you really need to. Good stuff. Semper Fi!

    We taught out young'uns to not fool around in an emergency situation. All of them began their training with folding "pocket stoves" fueled by gel alcohol. The gel fuel does not spread like liquid alcohol and we thought it was a safer alternative for training purposes. When it was time for a wood fueled campfire, and the wood was damp, a generous squirt of the gel alcohol always did the trick. It sticks to the wood for easy ignition. Get the fire lit before dark if you plan to use fire was our instruction.

      Alcohol evaporates. Use trioxane tablets. Army surplus. They come in a foil pack, kind of like an Alka-Seltzer. About the same size. If you put them inside your pack, you don't want them up in the top where the sun can get to them because they can spontaneously combust if they get too hot.

    • @NewHampshireJack
      @NewHampshireJack 2 месяца назад

      @@richardrogers8254 Unfortunately, we have little US surplus available in the Republic of the Philippine Islands where I took an early retirement. Even current manufacture Esbit fuel has to be imported and is super expensive due to transportation, import fees and VAT tax. We have to work with what we can purchase locally or DIY. We have a few awesome firestarter recipes that work fantastic and can be made from local materials. Every family members has them in their kits for use if the practice session turns serious. I only mentioned the gel fuel because that is always in our car kit with pocket stoves for making a hot cup, heating water etc. We purchase the gel fuel in bulk from hotel, restaurant and catering supply shops. It is basically the same as Sterno and other brands of canned cooking fuel. We repackage the gel into recycled plastic dish detergent bottles. A good squeeze into an aluminum bottle cap or small tin is all we need in the folding stove for use where a wood campfire is not possible.

  • @richardrogers8254
    @richardrogers8254 2 месяца назад +2

    Wow, pool shock is insane. If you need a quick way to get brake fluid, probably just enough to start a fire if you got your tender already on top with the pool shock, you can take the windshield washer hose loose, put the end down in your brake reservoir and put your thumb over the other end so that creates a vacuum and lift it up and you'll have whatever's inside the hose held in place until you let go with your thumb and it falls out. I'm sure everybody has tried this with a straw when they were drinking something.

    Should be noted, burning Pool chemicals can create a hazardous gas, and that should be an ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT to create fires for warmth, and must be in an open well ventilated area. IF you plan on cooking only use the chemicals enough to start a small fire and use the flames to light a piece of untainted wood/tinder to start a separate cooking fire, because the gases will contaminate your food. I'm serious, it's a hazmat protocol I have to deal with at work dealing with pool chemicals.

    Do you walk or stay? Unless its freezing and the car will turn into an ice box you better get a fire in play.

    One time while out hunting and camping I realized I didn't have a way to start a fire. After few minutes of thinking and checking my VW bus for a fire starter I decided to remove the rubber fuel line from the carburetor and lay it on the rear steel bumper then I disabled the ignition coil. I found a old soda can and place the fuel line in the can and cranked the engine over for a few second pumping gas into the can. I reinstalled the fuel line and got the coil hooked back up then removed a spark plug wire and then semi soaked a old shop towel with the gas I had in the can. I placed the gas wet rag on the rear bumper and layed the spark plug wire on the steel bumper almost touching the rag. I started the engine for a couple second ran back the rear of the VW bus and the rag was burning nicely which I quickly laid down about 10 feet from the bus near my prepared fire bundle and kindling thus saving the outdoor adventure!
