I remember the same thing happened a lot in LVG's time with the club where we would look absolutely panicked when trying to hold a lead. it has to do with the transition from being a counter attacking team to a possession team, average players and all the negative pressure around the club. Casemiro said "we panicked". He's not lying. professional players playing to half their ability when the pressure is on... its been happening all season and I don't buy that its down to tactics.

Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage.
Preferably I still would keep Ten Hag despite how poor we've been due to many reasons but sadly I think the pressure/noise that has been bubbling/building up from the loud majority has effected him & the players. You can see the players have mentally checked out/called it quits.
Like I said I would prefer to keep the manager & focus on the players. I rather stick it out with the manager as he gradually improves the team with the support/backing of the club & fans but the damage has already been done by the impatient, spoiled, moany, obnoxious fanbase 🙂
You all played your part in getting another manager sacked - If the shoes fits wear it. The issue is that nowadays there's too many wannabe football coaches/managers & not enough real football fans.
They do everything but support the team, they treat & try to control real life football like it's a video game. When things go how they wanted/invisioned/expected they'll soon be shouting manager out again. Too short-sighted & impatient to ever see something out. Always focusing on the surface level.

The simple fact is that Martinez, Shaw, Varane, Lidelof, Mount, Amrabat and Evans were not available. Not even going to mention Martial. Mainoo has an issue with his engine and Eriksen is not the player he was. On top of that the second goal was a freak and pen was dubious, exactly the same one was denied at Everton on the same day.
Flip side is there is no demonstrable playing style which after nearly two seasons is a concern. Still reckon I'd give ETH another season with some support from the new management structure and the removal of at least 4-5 players.

Yeah, the weird thing is, that Steve and the Paddock boys complain that the midfield don;t create enough chances for Hojlund, yet most of McTominays goals this season have come from him being in the position a centre forward should be in when the ball does come in from the wings. McTominay has the highest League goals to minutes played ratio (of anyone who has scored more than 2 goals) in the team. We win 52% of the games in which he plays Making him 4th after Varane (60%) Lindelhof (59%) and Evans (56%) and the highest of any player who isn't a defender.
For someone as obsessed with stats as Howson, he's awfully fucking selective in which stats he uses to support his beliefs.

Chin up Ste, we won and are through to the FA cup finals at Wembley. You give ETH lemons and asked him to make lemonade. So it works sometimes, not all the time. A football team and system is not perfected in one day. I sometimes feel that the fan base are too emotionally invested to be objective in their analysis. Ganacho is failing in his defensive role, and when removed for some one else - it caused an uproar among the fan base. The first goal conceded was with Mainoo on the pitch. The 2nd and third goals have some element of bad luck, a deflected shot that looped high over the goal keeper, and a penalty from a hand ball - unlucky.
NB: One caveat - A professional footballer should never turn his back to block a shot - it is unforgivable. He should also not stand off a player and allow them time and space to take a shot, because the chances of blocking it successfully is slim.

I was a United fan living in Southampton in 1976 when we played them in the FA Cup final. They were in the Second Division at the time and yet we lost to them. It happens and it didn't feel good. The following year we made it to the final again and beat the favorites and league champions, Liverpool. This was the second last time we were in back to back finals and was achieved by Tommy Docherty forty-seven years ago!!! Of the managers who followed and who were at the club for at least two years the following failed to achieve this again: Sexton, Atkinson, van Gaal, Solskjaer. Several other managers didn't even last two full years. Of course, as @rickoneillable corrected my original comment (thank you!), SAF did achieve three back-to-back finals:
In 1994 - we lost to Aston Villa in the League Cup Final, but beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final. This was in SAF's seventh season at the club.
In 1995 - we lost to Everton in the FA Cup final.
In 1996 - we beat Liverpool in the FA Cup Final
ETH has not only been in back to back FA Cup finals but he has also won the league cup in his FIRST TWO years at the club. Can't we just appreciate this please?

I almost commented on the match review. I cannot for the life of me understand Howson. Spent all season backing ETH. Today critising team setup and starting line up? Suggesting we should have played actual kids? This was a semi final of the FA Cup not a random league cup game. I dont see how ETH could have done much more with that squad of players im not defending him to the hilt but youd think after a day he'd have got his thinking head on. I fully understand the reasoning around learning from the repeated issues thats plagued us all season however the only logical take here is that ETH is sticking with the system because he has to.
Everyone seems to forget that Erik is actually really pragmatic a simple example is last season start brentford and then liverpool. An Ajax days example is he managed to adapt the team after selling all the stars in a summer and changed the system, bought Haller and turned him into a goal machine.
Its like Gary has been saying they cant use injuries as excuses... they still have 9 of their best starting...
The issue is it isnt 9 good players, its more like 3 or 4 good players for a particular system and 3 or 4 for another system that hes having to tape together with a sticky plaster. AWB cannot play LB. Whats the choices? Only a youngster on a fine u18 season not even u21, imagine bringing another youngster into an already disjointed team and watching him get smashed and ruining his career potentially? I dont know what more people want from Erik with the team its not even bare bones, bones are missing.
    Peace.

The arrogance among pundits is through the roof now. I think they genuinely think they know more ball than Erik ten Hag. Ste saying the 3-0 had nothing to do with tactics is silly to me. The opener was literally right off the training pitch. The Bruno goal should be cleaner if Rashford would have any decision making so he had to fluke the ball to the right instead of passing but Bruno scoring that is a pattern I’ve seen last game as well. Even scoring from corners is something I haven’t seen in a decade until Ten Hag came. I guarantee you that Harry scored most of his goals under Ten Hag and that too is no coincidence. Same for Casemiro by the way. Does that have implications for the rest defense that haven’t been properly crystallized yet? Absolutely. But this whole “no style of play” narrative seems so ignorant to me.

When I heard Kambwala was injured, I was expecting McTominay to fill in at CB, he has played there for Scotland and it would negate his shortcomings in midfield. That would have allowed Mainoo and Casemiro (who did a decent turn at CB btw) to play a double pivot. Agree re Antony, he needs to be shifted out, for free if necessary. As the game progressed with us 3-0 up Garnacho would have posed a threat which would have pinned Coventry back a bit. I think if there was a clear candidate of the right quality to replace EtH this summer then he should go. This was a hard listen,
I play football and coach football. And i have been at a club coaching and everything was a shambles, you had to pick certain players because other players were intimidated by the so called stars and would decline a start there would be pressure to start players that were underperforming the were good upcoming players with a character flaw. Like Amad is so good but when he took his shirt off knowing he was on a yellow card and knowing the team needs freshness, the crowd is calling for him and even challenging the coach they are trying to keep in a job for him and he chooses to make himself unavailable for the next game. Ten Hag is having a hard job guys believe that. If you coach your Sunday league team and can see and predict patterns then so can Ten Hag. The real question we should be asking ourselves is what is going on in that club. Ten Hag is doing the opposite of what he did last season and yall thinking he has gone dumb? Come on respect the intelligence you have and realise there is something sinister going on there. I mean folks said we were luck to win, sure but Coventry were extremely lucky to be gifted a wicked deflection and a penalty that not too long ago wasn’t given and in our case as well were never given this season.
Yea ETH has questions he needs to answer for sure but how do you expect him or the team to prevent a wicked deflection? Again by no means we were good but I still don’t understand how do you expect us to avoid the last two goals. Preventing them to shoot? How? Those were desperate shots that in 99% (exaggerated number here) wouldn’t result to anything.

Its definitely damned if you do, damned if you dont. I actually thought tactically we were set up ok, with both fullbacks inverting. AWB was poor, but I thought Dalot played well. His determination and passing quality were what created that first goal. Unfortunately most of the others need to learn from him. I think the tactics for the 2nd half were poor. Like Ste said, you're 3-0 up, time to keep the ball and not push so high with the fullbacks.

I keep hearing these arguments of what Ten Hag should have/could have done to get control of the game at 70 minutes. And all of them are moaning about who he brought on or who he had on the pitch.
He didn't think it was the right moment to give any of these kids on the bench a debut, I'm okay with that. Who else was on the bench he could have brought on? Because people are talking like he had Kante, Rio and De Bruyne on the bench and didn't use them. He brought on every senior player he could, the only players left on the bench were a goalkeeper and some kids. Literally kids who haven't made their senior debut yet.
That capitulation is on the players, it doesn't take a manager to tell you to slow the game down, to make more short passes, to move the ball side to side and get the other team to back off. It shouldn't take a manager to tell Wan-Bissaka to stop leaving that gap behind him. It shouldn't take a manager to tell McTominay he needs to sit in with Eriksen and stop bombing forward. It shouldn't take the manager for Casemiro and Eriksen with all their experience, to stop hoofing the ball forward. All things that seemed to stop in extra time because the manager clearly did have to tell them.
