We all know Rome was a weird place. After all, people went everywhere in togas, had sex with their sisters and spent their free time watching Russell Crowe fight tigers. But what most of us don't know is just how perverted a place it really was. And I don't just mean for the Emperors and their concubines: daily life in Ancient Rome was a nonstop orgy of prostitution, child-sex and, well, orgies. After all, even the most straight-laced, conservative Roman could be expected to enjoy:

That happens when there's no moral or sense of regret... remember everything that romans and greeks did was because the gods make them did it. The guilt came with christianity before that western civilization doesn't have that feeling. Re Slave sex: I knew an old lady. She told me that one of her neighbours in Canada (Winnipeg) was basically a slave. She was allowed out of the house with money. To buy groceries. Every penny was checked. He would go on yearly vacations to warm places. She was left behind. He kept track of the bills.
She outlived him. The lady I knew helped her handle the bills and basic money management after he died. Freedom. She'd never had its hole married.
Slavery can happen anywhere.
Didn't the Romans drink out of lead cups? That could explain a lot of mental breakdown. At least they had the aqueducts to bring water into the city. Their pipes was lead too. Probably messed with their fertility.

Kathy Murguia Obviously you have a short attention span.
I have also studied Roman history and what is being mentioned here, was done in the open unlike porn today which is done in private.
It was social excepted to have sex with boys, animals, child molestation, close relatives, the only role women had in the Hellenistic religions was as sex slaves, there only value was sexual, babies were openly abandoned.
All of this was *Normal* and accepted until *Christianity*.
+Onyx Stone I don't know where you get your information from, but it's kinda wrong. Bestiality and incest were still taboo (otherwise I don't know what the point of Oedipus Rex was). Bestiality was even used as a form of punishment. In the Hellenistic religion women were priestesses, not sex slaves (what?). About the Roman emperors, they used lead pipes going to the palace, so the water they drank, and the bath houses were all giving nobles lead poisoning. It was mostly the emperors that came in the later part of the empire that were extremely messed up.
slaves did have rights in Rome. Clearly nothing huge but they did, you could even be tried for mistreating one.
In addition the practice of freeing slaves was the norm and their kids would receive citizenship.

Saying Rome ran on slavery is wrong since 85-88% of the population of the Republic and Empire were not slaves. Half the slaves worked in many trades as tied labor and as domestics, teachers, doctors...and the rest on farms or estates. Owning a slave(s) was like owning a high end car. RUclips always contradicts itself
The virgins were off limits to all Roman men. As is evident by looking at Roman history, emperors often ignored such rules. Elagabalus, for instance, married a Vestal Virgin in an attempt to produce divine children. It didn't help his reputation any.
Faustina, the wife of emperor Marcus Aurelius, who was so aroused by gladiators her husband consulted a soothsayer about the situation. This oracle suggested Faustina have sex with a gladiator (she did), and that the gladiator in question be killed on top of her and that she bathe in his blood to satisfy, and cleanse herself of, her lust (this happened). She then had sex with Marcus Aurelius immediately afterward.
I've read some Roman writings they never dare touch upon, even in these videos about how decadent the Romans were. They were actually ten times worse. In cruelty and perversion, they had no peers. Simply abominable acts were commonplace. Whatever you were into, you could do, as long as you didn't anger someone powerful.
'Twould seem to be to where we're headed now.
The Execrables (opposites to their loathed "Deplorables" as-dubbed) seem to fit this part-line of yours: "In cruelty and perversion, they . . ." but, all the while believing themselves exemplary of that imagined cynosure of kindness, understanding, acceptance of opposing views re matters, goodness, patience plus all the rest of that famous drill they sell.
In toto as taken however, sounding far more like a mass schizophrenic/psychopathic pack, capable of justifying any form of criminal, most cruel act.
The dividing line separating our wild animal selves from taught, civil demeanor and behavior, IS tissue-thin.
So pretty much today's world or tbh any world at any time.
Rome was definitely a pervert's paradise!!! 😱😱
Beastiality was not only a favorite practice, but a popular form of public entertainment. Companies would train animals and human slaves to have sex with each other. The acts would be done as openers for gladiator combat and such. The animals included horses, zebras and even giraffes.

I totally agree, finally some common sense & honesty. It's so nauseatingly ridiculous to try to excuse Rome's horrible history by simply pointing out that everybody else was doing it too. Pedophilia, slavery, corruption, murder, oppression, etc. are just plain wrong no matter who, how, where or when it took place. Even in the ancient world, plenty of people were against these disgusting vices. Many died fighting against the Romans because it was offensive to human dignity & freedom. Sadly there are many idiotic Roman fanboys who can't seem to grasp this simple concept.
It's not supposed to be a justification, bc calling it morally wrong blurs the more important points of history we're supposed to remember
Except wrong and right aren't universal concepts and are different from place to place and from time to time.

What does sex got to do with it ?🎶
One has nothing to do with the other .
I hope in one of my past lives I was an upper class Roman man in my past life.

I can’t think of any era I would want to have lived in.
What about the decades from 1980 to early 2010s?
We are the same right now and when we are gone we’ll be talked about the same way.
That's why they had the largest population in incent history lmao
Your current format is much more pleasant... Thanks for your work..
Graffitti it wasn't born in the Ancient Roman times.. Infact is MUCH older.. In the pre-historic Era in the Stone Age cavemen were drawing in their wall of their caves or into some stones
.. Similliar to graffiti right?
Just because they thought pedophilia was ok doesn't mean it was. Imagine how awful that must've been for the kids

The US picked up a lot of the Romans traits when established
Interesting, not exactly what we were taught in school, thanks for posting.
One clarification to consider making is about Romans on average having "short" life spans. Actually, averages skew perception quite a bit and it doesn't really tell the story many probably think. It feels like most people think Romans died mostly between 25 and 35. That's actually not the case at all, an average is just that, an average. Meaning if you take two people, say one dies at 60 and the other at birth, then the average is 30. So in this example, if you made it safely past child birth, you'd likely live a life close to what we'd expect in modern times. As you mentioned, "mass infanticide" (while it wasn't the only danger), it's estimated that as high as half of Romans died before 10 years old. If you take this into consideration, if you were lucky enough to make it past 10 (and not get called off to war) you could have lived to be 50, 60 or even 70 years old.
Personally I think it makes more sense to say, if you were an Ancient Roman you would be likely to die before reaching 10 years old... But if you didn't, you could expect to live almost as long as we do today
Roman's wouldn't love the internet they had the real thing all day everyday
Gee. I wonder if I gave a ancient roman some hentai. Will he like it?
Most likely he would.
No
I guess and the romans would probably succumb to japanese culture
Teal Eye Visuals just don't give them your Wi-Fi password
They’d love Boku no Pico.
The document at 4:42 is in Hellenic not in Latin. It is actually the Epistle of Paul to Philemon.
