That's how it's done! Lots of videos show how to build a "simple" jig, and the first thing they do is break out more complex tools--bandsaw, table saw, router, and expensive fences to make a "simple" jig. Bravo for not missing the point.

YES I hate it when they use complex tools to build something simple.
Or worse, they use a table saw they already have to show you how to make one. They show a power button being added but you're thinking, so how does this wire into the saw? Do I need to take it apart and override the switch? This guy shows that all you do is add a zip tie to the trigger! Simples.
you know why i appreciate this video? Because it's an actual quick video. I hate having to watch 3 15 minute videos on building something that I'm only gonna use very rarely.

This video is exactly what I needed. I'm going to build some kitchen cabinets overseas and the only tools I can use will be whatever fits in a suitcase. I plan to do all cuts with a cordless circular saw and possibly a cordless router, but I really wanted to have a tablesaw as well. This video showing how to make one is perfect. Thank you Izzy.

Thanks Izzy, this is exactly what I need in small-as-hell garage/shop/laundry. I have a miter saw mounted on a barbecue cart, but, as you're well aware, there are times when you have to have a table saw. This is great solution for my lack of space, lack of funds, table saw delema.

I love this idea. I have a left handed old circular saw that I’d like to replace, but now I may just repurpose it for this instead!
I would suggest instead of using screws to mount it use recessed bolts. If you double up your plywood you can put the bolts between the sheets, this will allow you to easily remove and replace the saw anytime. Also if you created your bolt holes before you did the plunge cut the blade will always run down the center and be square to the table. Follow up with a router bit to open the hole a little and you've got a square work space and a perfectly aligned saw blade.

@@aimanjajo9951 Use 2 sheets 9mm ply. Drill through one sheet and counterbore to hold your bolt heads, then glue other sheet on top. Bolts are then covered, in between the 2 sheets.

I am writing from Guatemala where I just finished a double bunk (my version of a Jay Bates build) and triple bunk for my wife's cousin. The only tools I had were two corded drills, a circular saw, two squares, and a tape measure. I can't thank you enough for all that you have taught me even though we have never met. Saw this video a few nights ago and the next morning I went out to the garage, grabbed a scrap piece of plywood, 4 screws, and my circular saw. I was up and cutting in under 30 minutes! Thank you so much for this idea. I rarely have a need for a table saw, so buying one was unrealistic. I am probably going to elaborate on your design just a bit by adding threaded inserts in the plywood so that I can bolt the saw on when needed so I don't have to worry about stripping out the screw holes every time I set it up
Oh and for my fence, I just used vise grip clamps for quick dimension changes

Made this years ago, did not want to drill through my skill saw deck so I used carage bolts+ tabs made out of aluminum + butterfly nuts for mounting perposes. my fence I used 4ft level quick pistol grip claps. Been using it for years mine is box type so I just put in on saw hoarses and I am good to go also wired in electrical box on off switch witch gives me 3 extra outlets comes in handy. glad to see someone else does the same.

So, I like this idea as a quick down and dirty technique. It looks to be a great idea for when a table saw does go down and you can't afford to stop the project as well as for that beginner who cant afford a decent saw.
I have one suggestion however. Extend the rip fence on the opposite side of the table and mimic what you did to the front of the saw fence to the rear. This should allow you to slide the fence along the "table". If done with a little precision it once you measure and clap it should stay pretty accurate. and you can use clamps on the two sides to keep the fence from moving off the measured mark. Also you should be able to set up preset measurement lines off of the blade that would act as a measuring guide for your fence. Simple adds that may take a little long but should may also speed up the actual work.
Hope this can help someone.

+Stephen Al-Hakim This is a great way to lose a finger or get an eye gouged out from kick back. I don't yet own a table saw but a riving knife should ALWAYS be part of your setup.

Looks good, I've been wanting to build something similar using an old circular saw and a short Wal-Mart bookcase that fell apart. I was thinking of adding an old jigsaw below as well to use as a cheap bandsaw/scroll saw. There's one big difference between that and yours: Yours exists in the real world. :)

Izzy, awesome stuff. My tool experience is as a rough carpenter... comfortable working on makeshift tables with Skillsaw, belt sander, jigsaw, and hand drill (with guide). I decided I want to repair, and then actually build guitars. Need to step my carpentry game WAY up, but I don't have room for a bunch of shop tools... I want to use my hand-electric tools. Izzy thanks for this video and a lot of your other videos I've watched. It's videos like yours that have inspired me to make my own set-up. I just recently made my own simple table saw from a circular saw, partly encouraged by your videos. I posted a picture of my new saw to a woodworking forum and a couple of experienced woodworkers who have helped me a lot with the workbench project had concerns about the table saw. They were worried about the lack of a riving knife and the risk of the fence not being absolutely parallel to the blade, causing binding and kickback. Do you have an answer to those comments? Should I take any precautions to make it safer etc? Hoping you can make this a bit clearer for me. Thanks again.
I was also wondering about adding kickback protection. If I could figure that out I would make one of these.
You made me laugh when you said, "after I plug it in!" The reason I laugh, as I do every time I think of a customer at Home Depot. He bought the dewalt cordless kit and none of the tools worked. He was pissed off because he plugged in the cord part, ( that's what he called it instead of a charger ) and there was no signal reaching the tools. To make a very, very long story short, he thought the charger was supposed to send electric waves to the tools. His interpretation was that they are cordless, weren't they supposed to work like a cordless phone? He plugged in the charger in the garage and was trying to cut branches with the recepicating saw. Wi-fi saw, that MF might have something there. Lol.

I screwed an old skillsaw to the bottom of a chair in this same manner so i could cut straight identical squares to make a chessboard, bit gutted to see I'm not the only genius who thought of this :L

IZZY....great solution to the age old problem. Always need a table saw. I have always used a half sheet of ply w/ a fence clamped down to do my rips. this is a more permanent solution that is lightweight and very portable. It gave me the idea to build a few different size tables for the different applications depending on what your building. Keep up the good work.

You should teach them how to build prosthetic fingers also.
using your build as a basis i made my own with a few extra pipes i had lying around to make it adjustable
basically it just attaches to the top part of what you made and is fixed in place with a screw . also made it a little wider and added a ruler on it (just deepened a part of it and simply glued a metal ruler in there)
so i can quickly set a size i want for my planks
..but i'll be honest you made it look simple.. it took me a few tries to get everything at 90'

Bro I agree so much with this simple setup. It's far from being perfect but when you just have a saw - and nothing else that's just nice. I love your little tips like putting a first screw for fixing the saw, then squaring. Aligning with the blade also seems to be a nice idea, I was struggling to get nice 90° but that goes just well.
well, I made one myself as I cannot afford a table saw. the problem I encountered is that the saw base is not strong enough to hold the it weight @ up-side-down position, and therefore the blade is not square off the table surface. so it is very hard to have a straight mitre cut with a 2x4 timber. anyone has the same problem?
consider building a box to go around the saw that supports the weight.

Enrico Palazzo If your name is Izzy and you have God playing on your side - you can build wooden ships that big. As man has advanced in many thousands of years, we have lost the skills. Izzy just happens to use his brain better than some. Certainly better than me.
Enrico Palazzo Ciao Enrico. I understand fully what you are saying and what your thought processes are. I follow science and also 'God'. Science is being re-written as we speak. So we do not understand all things. God was re-written by clergy - but they maligned him. My understanding is that if God is all powerful and wrote the laws of physics (which we do not know thoroughly), then he also has the power and knowledge to make the ark work (stress-wise). So if we build an ark, it will not work - if God blesses the building of it - it will work. But you are right, from current understanding of engineering, the ark would not work. Nice to have a bit of fun though and see Izzy doing things out of the ordinary. Nothing works until we try it. Have a look at Izzy making a bowl with a table saw. Ciao for now.
Just a thought, wouldn't it be easier to screw down the base first, THEN cut the slot for the blade? That way you don't have to worry about lining up the blade with the slot when screwing it down later.

This would work if you had a tool other than the saw to widen the slot. dremel or router would work.
Oh this is awesome. My wife got me a ryobi table saw with a fixed hinge blade guard so I couldn't rip long boards (only good for tiny wood working moldings etc) so been ripping with my circle saw for years and sux. This I'm gonna build. 1000 thank U's
Excellent solution. I installed my circular saw in an existing work table. Although I tried my best to keep it straight and aligned but it went off by a centimeter. This technique is the best rather spending on costly work tables. I will make one for me now. Thanks a lot :)

So add a few more things that will be useful and protective. I'm sure the video is just showing how to get something basic up and running, there are way more things to do to make it safer, including properly mounting it on something more stable than the end of a table.
Ffs, have a cry. However did our grandparents survive when none of the tools they worked with had guards and other idiot safe features? The number one danger with any tool is the tool behind the tool...
All power tools have a Darwin award warning label implied. If every safety step causes you to pause, and think, perhaps wood working is the wrong vocation.

Just building a garden office and struggled to cut the thin trims accurately round the windows, saw this idea and ten minutes later, four screws, a cable tie and some 30mm heavy duty flooring board and now got a working table saw, clamped the board to a folding Black and Decker Workmate. Thanks Izzy from the UK, brilliant stuff

Joe: got the note about "Skill" saw. Interesting because I believe Skill invented the saw and like Thermos Bottle or Xerox Copy it became a household word for the tool. I like most all my baby boomer friends, call all circular saws "Skill" saws. Oddly enough when I buy a circular saw, I always buy a Skill brand. Somehow just seems right.

Tec 9 they do stall and burn out quite easily. Specially when made into table saws as not designed to be upside down with all the dust falling into motor housing. Yes you can get kickback from some circular saws with bigger motors but I bet it ain't as bad as the kickback from a tec 9 lol
to be fair, a tec 9 probably isn't kicking wooden projectiles at your face, but sure xD

This is by far the best and easiest of all. Izzay had just done what we thought of doing but could not get act together due to inexperience.
I only need a table saw for my decking project where 5 meter long boards need to be stripped along the length...pretty challenging without a table saw. But otherwise, table saw is dangerous and fairly useless for me buy one.
I can just dismantle the whole thing as soon as I finish the project.

I really appreciate you sharing these tips. A similar design was my first "Table Saw" in the mid '70's and I still have one circular saw with holes in the base just in case.
