    I've owned Bullies for the last 34 years and you wouldn't find a friendlier dog towards humans. I have had two Vets say they are 2nd to none with kids. Kids can do all sorts of terrible things to them and they will take it. They will not hesitate to get serious if need be such as protecting the family. This is why I fell in love with the breed.
    Now for some negatives. They aren't real bright and I don't agree they make a good working dog. They are stubborn and not easy to train. Depending on upbringing, training and parents they very much do not like other dogs or animals. Don't attempt to keep two females or two males living together. They often will tear each other apart. Any animal that comes into your yard such as a cat if caught will be history.
    The pure breed also has a few health issues. Polycystic kidney disease they are trying to breed out. Constantly chasing it's tail I believe is a registered disease with vets. All I did with mine was grab the tail and let him chew on it for a bit did the trick.
    Also in the warmer climates such as tropical areas they have terrible skin problems where their skin turns red and no vet has yet been able to ever diagnose/cure that problem.

      My Bully gave me 12 years of joy and was a great protector and knew when to show aggression with suspicious people. He would not bite but no one stayed around to find out. He seemed to be very timid until he matured at 2 years. Socializing is a must with the Bull Terrier as they will be aggressive with other dogs and cats if they haven't been around them.

    I hate how people just get one to be a lazy house dog. Almost every bt I see is either obese or ow. These dogs have such a high drive and they should be out to work, they love it! I see all these people complaining that their bt isn’t obedient or tears things up, and it’s simply because you don’t give it the exercise or work it needs. These dogs need something to do or they become extremely destructive. It’s not that hard to train them either. Mine was a little stubborn at the beginning but once he got the hang of it he absolutely loved it. It also helps to keep them on a strict schedule.

    Hi, I think you hit most of the amazing characteristics of a bull terrier. I have had a bull terrier. The breed is a super goofy breed and honestly, they are very well with kids. The bull terrier I owned was very good with my baby nephew and niece. She did not care to hurt them, even when they pulled her tail. The best thing about them is they are goofy dogs. I love them. She was very protective of my mom and me and could scare away anybody with her bark since it is deep and loud. However, my dog had separation anxiety. She does not like to be alone at all. That is one thing I liked you touched on in the video. Also, I had a girl dog and she was very good about cleaning herself which means she did not smell at all.
    Loved your video!

    I have 2 bull terriers- the first is a brindle male and the second is a white female with a black eye. The male is a bit of a genetic/behavioral nightmare since he's had fear aggression since we first got him as a pup. He's been to many trainers, is being seen by a dog behaviorist and is currently on the highest doses of anti-anxiety meds allowable for for canines. In saying all this, he is the best dog that I've ever had. He is silly, very loving and follows me everywhere I go. Our female bull terrier loves absolutely everyone and is delightfully awkward . She spins when she's excited and wants to sit on everyone. They are both amazing dogs but each one has it's quirks and I'd say to be prepared to deal with their quirks because they are worth it! Oh and the shedding even tho their fur is short- it gets everywhere!

    A warning to new dog owners. Do not get a Bull terrier. I raised a English bull terrier from Mexico from a puppy. He was nice to people but had a very very strong prey drive towards other dogs. When I was hiking my bull terrier 2 American staffordshire terrier rushed and fought my dog. But the bull terrier locked on that dogs face! We had to get 5 people to separate the dogs. Later down in life, my Dog became very stubborn and escaped and killed a Boxer dog. Lucky the guy didn't push charges after that I said no way this dog is to much. If you live in the farm it would be great for killing small game, but in the city make sure you really train your bull terrier really good or else you got a killing machine. I'm guessing the bull terrier I got was from a Game bred bull terrier.

    I’m almost 2 months in with my BT/wheaten/Presa pup. Very goofy, combated his anxiety for wanting to always be with me with proper exercise and a kennel cover/has high prey drive (that’s what I got him for to hunt game). He’s still feeling out so he won’t look short and stocky like the one in the vid. Very stubborn at times but he is very smart when he wants to deal with my training but he’s also still a pup so I take what he gives me at this point.
    Edited: I also see a lot of ppl saying how the bt is destructive and bites everything plus dog aggressive. well if you do some reading you’d learn they have an absolutely high prey drive. You have to lean into their needs not fight it. Find it a job to do and when it’s in the house you can crate it until the next time you want to take it out. Set up a plan for your dog just like a child’s day to day activities. And most bull breeds will be dog aggressive that comes with the territory. If you don’t like dog aggression or don’t want to learn how to control it get another dog.

    I own one and Ive owned several dogs through my life maybe around 6 different dogs of varying breeds and this Bull Terrier that I own is a lot more difficult and high maintenance that an average breed.
    If you get one on the more difficult end of the spectrum they can be very stressful. When I got my bully home at 11 weeks he was biting our family for 3-4 months and everyone in the family had bite marks and puncture wounds and bruises from the hands up to their shoulders
    Destroys and chews everything and anything possible, digs holes in the yard and for a good part of 6 months would eat anything on the ground that would fit in his mouth (hes a little better with that now)
    They have a crazy amount of energy in short bursts that they need to burn off and if they dont , they will nip/bite and destroy everything and just be a big pain in the ass.
    My advice is get one from somebody who breeds for good temprament, see the parents and try to choose a pup that is not the most boisterous and crazy one in the litter.
    Also watch out for deafness, sensitive skin and sensitive stomach. A good quality food fixed up my dogs sensitive skin and stomach

    • @lex5971
      @lex5971 3 года назад +2

      You have to start training them right away! Mine was like that at the beginning but with a strict schedule and training he is perfect. These dogs are very energetic and should at least get 3 hours of exercise if they aren’t put to work. If not they become so destructive and yes they nip and eat everything of the ground but like I said with strict training that should stop

    • @mellowman1020
      @mellowman1020 3 года назад

      @@lex5971 He does get strict training but its a long process because of the stubborness.
      He is food motivated but he is not motivated to take instruction to please his owner.
      Im still a believer in breeding for temperament. A dog that is off the wall crazy shouldnt be bred for being a pet. He was obviously bred for looks as he is from a show line and temperament was either a distant thought or not a thought at all. Preety sad when the litter was advertised for show or pet.
      Anyhow Ill probably end up with a decent dog by the end of its but it looks like its going to take 2+ years at least of non stop work, training and nonsense day and night to get a dog that a lot of other breeds would achieve in 6 -8 months with little effort.
      I can see the appeal of the breed, extremely intelligent and quirky , fun and have a zest for life but I would stay well away from the breed myself .
      Nothing wrong with the breed they are great but I would say they arent for most people.

      The Bull Terrier used to have cropped ears untill the practise was banned , a naturally prick eared breed was then crossed in to get the natural pricked ear. As for not overbred , you have got to be kidding as all down faced Bull Terriers can be traced back to a single dog which lead to very bad movement in the breed as well as suffering a number of genetic conditions and yes the Miniature Bull Terrier is classed as a separate breed.

      Never heard term "street pit." All pit types are mutts. Original ENG. PITBULL TER. is ancestor of AM. PIT. BUL. TER. & today's AMSTAFF isorignal APBT.
      Only purebreds here that are AKC. recognized are; AMSTAFF, STAFFIES, BULLTERRIER(( white& colored) & miniature bull ter.

    I had one, Brindle, the white ones have a MUCH MUUCH higher chance of ear problems/ Deafness, incredibly stubborn and energetic, smart, super loyal to close ppl but masterfully loyal to 1, can be territorial to other males, can be to rough with younger kids, and can be a danger to small animals, very strong, the full size are surprisingly fast, and they have the highest pain tolerance I have ever seen in any breed...

      That's how my APBT was. Great family dog but iffy with other dogs. To be fair he was only around two dogs and the little dog he always got along with. The big one was his buddy but every now and then he had to fight with him...I don't know why. Well I know it's in his blood but you know what I mean. The funny thing is he wasn't this killer that they make APBTs out to be...he actually (cause I couldn't get him to stop) would stop fighting on his own and there wasn't any major wounds with either one..and then he would go make up with my other dog and lick his wounds. So APBTs are very misunderstood.

    Hincks was a bit of a sleaze. For his new breed he registered the name 'Bull Terrier' with the UK Kennel Club when that name was already in widespread use for another dog, a breed that was later registered as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The SBT is a much older breed, but it wasn't officially registered as such.
