The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I'm so fascinated by Irish culture.
God Bless Ireland 🇮🇪
I despise it
@@johndoe-fq7ezhow come?
@@oldbeatpete the part of the US I’m from every one thinks they’re Irish, the rise of Conor mcgregor only made it worse, just got annoying and to much now I hate everything Irish
@@oldbeatpete I’m from a part of the US where everyone thinks they’re Irish even when there’s evidence they’re not, the rise of Conor mcgregor made that worse, just got to be too much that I eventually found the whole thing annoying
I’ve been with their music since about 1960 - the boys sure look young here. Miss them and the era.
Same here. I have all their albums. I got to see them twice, once in Boston about 1965 and once here in about 1980.
Grew up with them every Saturday in the 70s. Hearing them takes me back.... I can smell Dad's cigar and just a wiff of the mouthwash. How lucky I am to have met Tommy Makem. With Dad, God love them both. Sláinte!
They are all gone now,. but still here with us, love all of the songs and the vivgour that they sang with. As we say Lovely Stuff.
And don't forget some of their kids are still singing too. Donal Clancy and Rory Makem are singing together as Makem and Clancy like their dads, and Rory sometimes sings at festivals solo.
And Finbarr Clancy, Bobby Clancy's son, is part of The High Kings.
@@rachelpurves5843And Aoife Clancy as well
The sound is very clean and smooth as for an old recording
GOD bless the Irish!
wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day in my house without them,
I’m a regular Kevin Barry and I approve this message.
Wow! What a gem! 🎉They were so cool, especially in their heyday. ❤
My grandfather played their music for me when I was very young and I have always loved it so much. I am nearly at his age when he died and I still have such fond memories.
"Oh, come tell me, Seán O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so"
"Hush my bhuachaill, hush and listen" and his cheeks were all aglow
"I bear orders from the captain, make you ready quick and soon
For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon!"
By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon
"For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon!"
"Oh, then tell me, Seán O'Farrell, where the gathering is to be"
"In the old spot by the river, right well-known to you and me
One word more for signal token, whistle up the marching tune
With your pike upon your shoulder by the rising of the moon!"
By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon
"Be your pike upon your shoulder by the rising of the moon!"
Out of many a mud-wall cabin, eyes were watching through the night
Many a manly heart was throbbing for that coming morning light
Rumours ran along the valley like the banshee's lonely croon
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon
By the rising of the moon, by the rising of the moon
And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon
All along the singing river that dark mass of men was seen
Far above their shining weapons hung their own beloved green
"Death to ev'ry foe and traitor! Forward, strike the marching tune!
And hurrah, my boys, for freedom! 'Tis the rising of the moon!"
'Tis the rising of the moon, 'tis the rising of the moon
"And hurrah, my boys, for freedom! 'Tis the rising of the moon!"
Words cannot express how much I appreciate this. I have been singing along since the 60;s but this is brilliant, thank you!
@@lucypotato8793 You're very welcome!
Lovely
Beautiful song😀👍🏿🎶 🍀
These guys were great! From the 1961 St. Patrick's Day show. Ed Sullivan did a St. Patrick's Day show almost every year. On one of the shows that the Clancy Brothers were booked on, some of the other acts who were scheduled had to cancel, and the Clancys saved the show by performing a long set of songs to make up for it. This particular episode also featured Helen Kane, the original inspiration for Betty Boop, who sang "The Kerry Dance", and also featured Irish tenors and Irish dancers. Great stuff! I hope you will also post the Bachelors, an Irish pop band who happen to be my favorite band of the 1960's!
I know it but I can't find it on YT anymore?
Brilliance!
I've been looking for that particular one for a while...do you mayhap know where to find it?
@@yosheetdl3623 I have no idea, unless some of the parts of the segment have already been uploaded to this channel.

Nice
Interestingly, when The Dubliners went on Ed Sullivan they did Goodbye Mursheen Dirkin, That was with two of the lads on tin whistle. Like the Clancys, The Dubs also have a good version of The Rising of the Moon.
The definitive version one would say
@@user-je1py1rn2y nah , The Clancy Brothers version is better.
Muito lindo dms
They're so great. Even if all they had was their influence on Dylan their legacy would be assured, but they're so much more than that.
Their genre was folk music. It's not supposed to be universally known. They are known and loved among their own people whether in Ireland or scattered across the world and that's all that matters.
to my dad dan murphy an old ira man r i p this is for dad i love u and mommy mary jane r i p
To Dan!
wow...soooo young!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
OMG never even realized this was allowed on the Sullivan show!
Sullivan would have been an Irish American.
Up the long ladder
Sadly, they dropped the songs of liberation the more famous they got, similar to others, I don't blame them, but it is sad
"They are killing men and women for the wearing of the Green"🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
