I’m from the Pacific region and am not an American citizen. However, this appeared in my feed. I have to say, This guy Josh Hawley blows me away. He presents as articulate, intelligent, reasoned, quick and to me, he possesses the most gorgeous modulated speaking voice. As an Englishman I have to say I am impressed with how your Senators conduct themselves. These Senate hearings are fascinating, but what power do these Senators have over and above giving these people are hard time?
The U.S. Congress is based loosely on the English parliament with the Senate being like the House of Lords, supposedly the more conservative body. The U.S. House of representatives is the people's house based on the house of commons. All laws must be passed by both houses and the Senate has the exclusive power to approve presidential nominations.
Committees like this are supposedly to inform lawmaking and approval decisions but often turn into political grandstanding.
