English mastiffs are a pleasure to own, every time I got to Home Depot with him he is mobbed by people that want to pet and take pictures with him. And mine also doesn't touch your food when it's right in front of him, it's like he knows he's not supposed to take from humans plates. Enjoy this great breed of dog, they truly are a pleasure!!!!!

We take Gunther to Lowe’s home store to socialize and he loves it ! He’s such a ham, loves the attention. We recently had someone come to fix our fridge and he was in love with Gunther, he spent over 30 mins playing with Gunther and taking a few pics of him lol
Mine is a total food scab and sneaks food from the kids' plates if he can get away with it.

What a sweet dog! This is just what I needed. I’m dogless since my big boy died in 2007 and sometimes I just need to experience the Mastiff heaven vicariously. He looks so healthy and balanced! Thanks for sharing him with me ❤️

We had been dogless since 2009. Until January 2022 when we got a our Wheaten and it now I can't even remember what it was like to not have a dog. Even though we've only had her for a year
My old English/lab mix has some of the strangest behaviors. Our Corso pups have the same behaviors. I love it, but it's hard to get used to when you cannot move a flower pot an inch without them noticing. 😂😂😂😂😂

Having rescued several of these Wonderfull dogs they will always be my favorite. We have bull mastiffs now both rescues. Yes they do drool but i dont care.

Mine could clear a coffee table....swat three kids with it's tail all in 30 secs!!!! Or lay down under a blanket so that can't see you and call their names....and they go nuts! looking for you and when they do find ya they are gonna wash your face off!!!! lol My two things I hated about the beautiful dogs was one they don't live long enough...and two if you don't have the correct food for them...they get hot spots or club tails...took a lot of trial and error...but know I know to start with a really good quality dog food like Fromm's. And my girl was big so she ate a lot!!! As long as she was with my kids....I knew they were safe.....no one messed with her "babies" If a stranger came close to me....she would wrap herself around and protect.

I’ve researched that these are one of the best “family” dogs with protective built in instincts. Does your dog have a protection when needed personality? I’ve always been interested in a bull mastiff which I know isn’t the same as English . Thanks and good video

From my personal experience I can definitely say one of the best breed and make excellent family pets . I love the calm laid back temperament that Gunther has , I can’t do hyper😬
Good question, To answer your question, we haven’t been in any situation yet , thankfully 😅 that would get Gunther in protective mode , but if we ever did , I have no doubt in my mind that he would protect us with his life ! He is very protective of my youngest , when my boys play rough or if I’m chasing Sidd , Gunther runs and gets in the way , he does not let us put a hand on Sidd , it’s really amazing. And Sidd has started taking advantage of the fact that Gunther’s there to protect him , lol he pranks his older brother and then stands behind Gunther 😅 then he’s untouchable A mastiff will bark and corner the “threat” They put themselves between you and threat . Their hearts are much bigger than their size ❤️❤️ hope this helps .

@@WingsAsEaglesMinistries great Pyrenees are absolutely gorgeous ! I've had the pleasure of meeting a handsome and very friendly Great Pyrenees at the vet's , one of the tech who works there, owns one named Brutus, and sometimes brings him to work, Brutus became such good friends with Gunther, they played for a good 20 mins , I have a vid somewhere , I should try to find it .
when im scheduling Gunther's appt, I always check if brutus is going to be there :)
My English mastiff is only 13 weeks. He is the friendlies dog I have ever seen. I live in a pretty iffy neighborhood, and there has been a few times when he’ll suddenly stop the playing and sweetness and immediately get very serious and stand and look at people. Most notably a drug deal I watched go down across the street. He was very alert and aware.
Mastiffs are super sweet and friendly unless they think their owner is threatened. I have Mastiff, and even as a puppy, if he thought something was scary or threatening, he would brave it and jump in front of me and take a guard stance while growling a warning. They’re huge goofballs most of the time, but again, if they think you’re being threatened, they’ll guard REALLY well, and they’re more bark than bite. Hope this helps (:

I’m so sorry for your loss ! I know exactly how that feels , We lost Gunther last year very unexpectedly, he was my hardest goodbye , I’ve stopped posting since ….. life isn’t the same without him

We also just recently brought home a Cavalier pup which the kids called Napalm. This mastiff will either be called Thunder Muffin or Oxford.

My mastiff is also that big I am the only one he listens to in the house because I spend the most of the time with him
A well trained dog also listens to owners that don't spend the most time with it.
i like all animals, i love dogs. i am crazy for mastiffs. im finally ready for one now and i have one picked out. ive spent alot of time trying to learn as much as i can, instead of just jumping into it and making a mistake. ive wanted my own pup my whole life, but wasnt stable enough or the wrong time. now im ready, if everything goes as planned next weekend i should be picking up my baby giant! Otis is what hell be named!

@@NRImomslifestyle very good manners. Our family lab got into a chocolate birthday cake several years ago, because we didn't realize he could reach where it was sitting on the kitchen table. Had to bring him to the vet and give him the icky medicine to make him barf it back up... And my mom had to bake a fresh birthday cake for my brother!

One of the most gentle breeds of dog there are, you probably won't get a better family dog... You just have to be very careful with their health/diet etc as their lifespan can be woefully short if you don't... Wonderful dogs

You are absolutely right , everything you mentioned, esp the life span ..... I dread that day ! My friend lost her’s when he was only 6! I can’t imagine life without my boy . There isn’t a better family dog. Just earlier today as I was browsing through pics, I noticed how gray his muzzle is turning 😔, they grow and age so fast , I can’t imagine life without him.

Is Gunther fixed? if yes, at what age did he get fixed? I am more worry about the size of my Mastiff
How old is your mastiff ? Gunther is intact , he’s not fixed . I would rather he not be fixed than put him under anesthesia
Your vet should be able to guide you if you want to neuter /spay your dog . We chose not to neuter Gunther .
Usually in mastiffs, it’s adviced to wait until atleast 2 years old before neutering , (in males ) becoz they are fully grown by age 2
But please check with the vet .

We had asked the breeder same question, we had the same concern , but Gunther doesn’t do any of that, he doesn’t try to mark inside the home .
We take him to our vet’s day care sometimes for socializing
But not dog park becoz he is not fixed
Dog parks have a rule abt neuter , so we can’t .
Which is fine becoz he meets lots a dogs on walks so good socializing
@@doglover9487 if u ask me , I would highly recommend waiting to neuter till your dog is at least 2 -3 years old.
There are many English mastiff forums that you can join . they are very helpful and have a ton of information for new owners .
I was lucky to have a very good friend guide me through this . She has owned 4 mastiffs, American mastiffs
