    Thanks for taking the time to make this video and do referencing bolt sizes, tool combinations and tip for keeping belt from coming off other pulleys. This definitely made my job much easier.

    Just did the alternator on my kids 2002 RAV4 using this video. Was an easy job with the guidance provided here thanks! I did use a 3/4” on the tensioner bolt, my 19mm socket wanted to slip, the 6 sided 3/4” grabbed better.

    once you relieve the tension on the fan belt at the 3:00 mark, are you removing it from the slip pully first before removing it from the fan belt?

    • @madatsukaerude
      @madatsukaerude  2 года назад +1

      Yes, the belt is slipped off from the slip pully. The reason why I don't take the belt fully is it would be a little bit hard to route the belt back to the pullies behind the engine.

    Im trying to change the alternator on my 2007 rav4 I4 2.4, but I cant compress the tensioner at all even with all my mighty strength, any thoughts?

      I bought a 1/2" ratchet head with 2ft arm. I put 19mm standard head on it. I got it at O'Reilly. If you use a tool with a long arm, it should be easy. Before I got this, it was really hard to turn it. First time I tried this, I accessed from the bottom, and used my leg to kick the arm of the wrench end.

    My battery light went on and my car started acting like turning off but when tested it says voltage is good. But it was making a noise and smelled like burned wire.. I'm thinking it is still the alternator. Should I change it?

    • @madatsukaerude
      @madatsukaerude  2 года назад +1

      If I understand correctly, the battery light turns on when the charging is not going well. So, I would replace the alternator.

    • @madatsukaerude
      @madatsukaerude  2 года назад

      I think the hex size is different for the bottom bolt and the top bolt. I just use standard deep hex socket for one and short socket with an extension for another.

    It's probably cheaper and easier just to rebuild the alternator. The electicals inside the alternator are not that complex and anyone with basic mechanical / electrical background should be able to test and rebuild the alternator with a multi-meter.
    Doing a timing chain tensioner on a second gen Rav4 is totally insane as one cannot even see where the timing chain tensioner is.....
