Setting personal boundaries & sticking to them is so important. Otherwise you'll find yourself in situations that make you unhappy & puts you at risk of being used and abused. As a people pleaser, I do things for people because I'm afraid to say no & people use it to their advantage, thinking it's ok to use me when they need something because I'm nice and easy to walk all over. Left me feeling bitter and resentful so my #1 boundary is to SAY NO/not worry about others before myself.

What’s the sad truth about your story is that he wasn’t trying to find a submissive women, he was trying to make you submissive and control you. Him reaching out to friends and family is such a power trip I’ve seen too many times unfortunately. I’ve always been independent too, but then I’d get in these situationships in high school and college where I was absolutely suffocated by most guys I’d get a fling w. I never got into relationships because of your same reasoning and some harassed me for months after rejecting them. With women there’s no toxic masculinity. I’m so proud you stuck up for yourself. Out of the 3 years we been together he’s never gotten insecure even when ppl compliment me or show interest. He just says that’s my beautiful girl. I had a similar experience with these type of men. I didn't even know it was a thing. I was 18 years old when I first started "real" dating. I got a brand new car && my bf had a older car && I told him I was going to pick him up to go out && he said no we have to take his car. I said why? && he said because "it doesn't look good for a girl to drive a man around" so he was trying to put ME down so he can feel better about himself. If anything he looks better in MY car because it's brand new. (I got out of that relationship) That's toxic! Ladies don't let men put you down! Lesson learned.

Some men show you that they’re jealous of women’s success and independence without saying that they’re jealous. I have a lot of unfortunate experiences with guys…controlling and wanna leave you as soon as you don’t give them what they want. A guy broke up with me for not having sex with him, after he knew I wasn’t comfortable rushing into anything because of my past. He would text me all the time threatening to call it off and finally we both agreed that maybe we should go our separate ways. Ever since then, I feel more at peace and spending more time accomplishing the goals and dreams that I want to accomplish 🥹💗 I prefer to stay single until someone genuinely cares about me and understands me, and NOT using me for anything.

A guy broke up with me for not having sex with him, after he knew I wasn’t comfortable rushing into anything because of my past.
