If you're getting to the step where you're trying to use the brush tool to paint scratches and nothing happens, make sure your foreground color is black. When you create the mask, it switches to white.

I have selected layer mask
When you create the mask, your foreground color switches to white, make sure it black. and change mode to normal.

I am really enjoying this tutorial, however the brushes will not upload into by tool kit :( and i cant find any other brushes that are the same to try and use. Any suggestions ?
If you're using Windows or a Mac desktop, the brushes should install with no problem, however, if you're using something else, the brush set may not work.

Do you have link to your tutorial where you made the Poster Base Template? There are some things I notice in it that I would like to know how to do as well. For instance how you roughen up the edges of the poster
I don't have a tutorial that shows how I created the template. Sorry. You can roughen up the edges of the poster by reducing the size of the scratch brushes and brushing around the edges.

As usual brilliant tutorial. However everything worked except the scratches in the folder. I played the video over and over and cant see what I am doing wrong. Thanks anyway I can scratch the individual layers.
I love your tutorial, but experience the same problem. When I choose scratches and click on the picture, nothing happens, although I see the scratches as a tool and can move it, resize it etc. Do you have an idea, what to do or change to make it work?
Had the same problem, found out you must have black as your foreground colour , white as the background, in the colour palette... worked for me

How did you know when to use different blending option for different photos
After awhile, you generally know how each blending mode effects the photo. Just experiment with them.

Dear Marty,
If my calculations are correct, you will receive this letter immediately after you saw the DeLorean struck by lightning. First, let me assure you that I am alive and well. I've been living happily these past eight months in the year 1885. The lightning bolt that hit the DeLorean caused a jigowatt overload which scrambled the time circuits, activated the flux capacitor, and sent me back to 1885. The overload shorted out the time circuits and destroyed the flying circuits. Unfortunately, the car will never fly again.
I set myself up as a blacksmith as a front while I attempted to repair the damage to the time circuits. Unfortunately, this proved impossible because suitable replacement parts will not be invented until 1947. However, I've gotten quite adept at shoeing horses and fixing wagons.

Hopefully, it should remain undisturbed and preserved until you uncover it in 1955. Inside, you will find repair instructions. My 1955 counterpart should have no problem repairing it so that you can drive it back to the future. Once you have returned to 1985, destroy the time machine.

I am perfectly happy living in the fresh air and wide-open spaces, and I fear that unnecessary time travel only risks further disruption of the space-time continuum. And please take care of Einstein for me. I know that you will give him a good home. Remember to walk him twice a day, and that he only likes canned dog food. These are my wishes; please respect them and follow them.
