    • @frankrabbit2247
      @frankrabbit2247 8 дней назад +10

      @nerotheyoung you're absolutely correct. That was the Legends retcon after Episode 2 came out anyway. Originally Windu had a blue saber simply because of promotional material, games like Power Battles and his action figure came with blue blade before Attack of the Clones gave him a purple blade. They even gave his Episode 1 hilt to Mundi to explain the change and cover the continuity error of the hints not matching between episodes 1 and 2.

    • @yarpen26
      @yarpen26 8 дней назад +4

      @frankrabbit2247 I don't think Lucas would have agreed to yellow lightsabers to be featured in movies (he seemed mostly settled on there being just blue, green and red types) even though these were always quite heavily featured in the EU (yellow being the only primary color missing from the bunch and, hell, even green has yellow in it, so it was natural, even as a kid I found it annoying how there were no movie yellow sabers). The purple for Windu came about only because of SLJ's ego, he almost certainly would have been left with blue otherwise.
      That being said, even purple, I think, had been featured in the EU before Clones. Maybe "violet"? I also distinctly remember how Mara Jade carried a "rubin" blade some time at the start of the NJO and I always thought it would look something like Windu's, seeing how weird it was to see a good character with a Sith color.

    I loved this game when I was a kid, I played the PS1 version so many times that when I played this remaster as an adult, I kept accidently hitting circle to jump instead of X - it’s that deeply ingrained. While I did enjoy replaying this game - even getting to play levels I never had a chance to play originally (You had to beat the game as Plo Koon to get the Droideka level and I could never beat Maul as him) - I have to say this remaster needed a lot more love in its creation than it actually got.
    I’ve seen a lot of glitches in my playthrough, particularly when playing as one of the 13 “new” playable characters. You can’t beat certain levels with some of these characters unless it’s two player co op, like the Trade Federation level when you need to destroy the Droid fighter - if you can’t deflect the blaster fire back, you can’t beat the level.
    It’s fun playing as the loader droid but the level can’t always handle it, I was playing two player co op with two of the 13 characters and it kept glitching at the same spot in Coruscant.
    Certain dialogue doesn’t happen in the levels, even with the normally playable characters - it would have been nice if they’d done a bit of voice acting for the new characters (imagine the tusken raider making the noises when talking to the queen).
    I think the co op option should have been made a split screen, as this was a sore point for me playing it originally as well. You always had to stick together but sometimes the platforming didn’t allow for that.
    That all being said, I still enjoyed playing it and I’m happy to finally be able to play it on a modern console.

    As someone who played through the original Tomb Raider Trilogy for the first time while using the Modern Controls option in the remaster, I understand the comment of "tweaking the controls would mess with the level design" because there were several times where platforming felt too easy in TR with multiple instances of me skipping stuff. It's not something you normally think about when remastering an older game but the outdated controls are usually integral to the level design.
    Now that's not to say I agree with the decision to not improve the controls, just that I understand their response.
    What they should've done was add some extra toggles in the menus like the TR Trilogy Remaster did. That way people who want the original difficulty could still have it while others could have an easier time.

    • @fearedjames
      @fearedjames 9 дней назад

      Wait they tweaked controls in the Tomb Raider remaster? The original game literally auto timed jumps for you, how would you even make it easier? Jumping in TR games is supposed to be mindlessly easy, its everything else thats hard.

    • @clintmcbride7830
      @clintmcbride7830 9 дней назад +3

      @@fearedjames Nah. The timing on the jumps, instead of jumping as soon as you press the button, is what gave the platforming its difficulty in those games. They have a new, optional, control scheme that is modern controls where you push forward and Lara moves upwards on the screen, instead of forward relative to her facing. She now also jumps as soon as you press the button. It is so much easier than it was before. Considering the levels were designed with very specific timing in mind.

    • @clintmcbride7830
      @clintmcbride7830 9 дней назад +3

      But with TR the level design was created with very tight and predictable controls in mind. Movement is the central pillar of the gameplay. With JBP the platforming feels more like an afterthought and not the central mechanic that the player movement and level design are built around. I will still be getting the Remaster (eventually) but then simply adding 15% more distance from a double jump wouldn't have broken anything

    • @KasumiRINA
      @KasumiRINA 9 дней назад

      @@fearedjames the modern controls in Tomb Raider are faster, and let you do easier banana jumps (Lara turns faster mid-air) and have shorter startup time, which actually makes normal jumps harder. Before, you walked to the edge, made one hop (or three steps) back, held forward and pressed jump, and Lara would kick at the very last moment, giving you maximum possible jump distance. Now you actually have to time it every time. They also removed side jumps, back jumps, back hop and made look button a toggle, which made me give up trying the updated control scheme and switch back to tank controls. Which still have very slow turning and no strafe running. Still easier than not having grid jumps.

    • @fearedjames
      @fearedjames 9 дней назад

      @@clintmcbride7830 The original control scheme made it so that you held the jump button, and you auto jumped at the ideal range.
      It literally auto jumped for you. There was no difficulty at all with jumping in the original Tomb Raider games. You were never supposed to time anything with the slow animations, and the game would jump on a dime for you if that was ideal.
      Removing auto jumping would make the game harder, and frankly much less enjoyable.

    You forgot about what they removed from the game that is in the original. In Stage 1 you were able to destroy the consoles/computers/holograms/screens that would score you points of +50 or +100

    Great video! You've earned a new sub Sir 👍
    Here's my feelings as an OG player from back in the day:
    I understand the developers wanting to be faithful to the original game but, people who played the original back in the day have already had this experience, and even though this was one of my favourite games as I kid, I still remember seeing the problems with it back then and WISHING it was better, at just 10 years old. And so did my friends when I would try and get them to play it with me. They wouldn't tolerate it for long and would always ask to play something else instead, even though they liked Star Wars too 😞
    ROMs and original copies of the game still exist for people who want that true retro experience. But for new folks who have never played this title before, they're not going to care or give it a chance due to how old and janky it is. And if they do, they'll feel the same frustrations and disappointment that we did back in the day.
    The premise and concept of this game is so frickin' cool. It has so much potential, it could even go beyond Episode 1. Lego took this co-op concept and ran with it to great success, but this upscaled port just ain't it Chief. It's not using the idea to it's fullest and it's not enough to revive this Star Wars niche of non-Lego related SW co-op games.
    While there are some nice touches here and there, I just don't see the point of buying it. If I wanted to punish myself, I could just play the original game.

    Aspyr is one of the laziest companies that get a lot of work because they bang out remasters that are often broken, missing features or like with Kotor, lie to sell you on dlc they would never release. It's cool that we get these games on modern hardware but emulation is incredibly easy these days and would be a better (and cheaper) way to spend your time. Sure it might not look as pretty but you can at least guarantee that it will run the way it was supposed to. Since Kotor I've been very wary of the Aspyr remasters and have sadly been proven right more often than wrong.

  • @Rockmankb
    @Rockmankb 9 дней назад +1

    Honestly, I grew up with ps1 version and I could tell from the trailers that this was based on the Dreamcast version, but I was hoping for at least a “classic mode/mania mode” which kept the controls and level design of the ps1 version.
    Playing the ps1 version makes this one entirely too easy (from the modern controls to stuff like adding extra platforms on certain jumps to make it easier, taking away the hole in the middle of the stage when fighting the sand rat, no jumps between the conveyor belts in the viceroy ship and even making the cars on Coruscant a bit bigger and faster).
    They also removed all the destructible items and environments (like the plants, and the video screens on the viceroy ship) but it also slightly changes some levels (like the destructible walls leading to more items and hidden paths in the theed palace).
    Don’t want to complain too much because I’m happy to have the game around again, but yeah I’m a tiny bit disappointed with some of the choices.

  • @Lonely_Soldier
    @Lonely_Soldier 9 дней назад +1

    My biggest complaint was the unlockable characters like Maul and Padme can't be upgraded at all. That and there's no option to use the PS1 visuals as personally i find the PS1 version looks better overall with lighting and textures actually looking like stuff from the movie, the DC version's first mission looks nothing like the Trade Federation Control Ships. I'm surprised though that no one is mentioning the fact that each of the playable characters has unique speeds, attack power and defense. Mostly just talking about the main 5 playable Jedi, not sure about the new ones and some of the unlockable characters, so character choice is pretty important if playing solo, it can make the game much easier or harder depending on who you choose.

    The main thing is that I want the destruction from the PS1 version to be there.. Its so weird not being able to destory everything and getting points from it.
    I was bummed the whole time without it.. Just dont feel complete without that part. I also dont care for having all the stuff unlocked right away. I think seeing all the stages and all the original bonus characters plus the extra one added for the DC release.. I didnt like it then seeing all the stages as well. It also just cheapened it a bit for me. Part of the original experience was messed with there.. And then the missing destruction.. I get that it wasnt in the DC release but most of us played the PS1 version thats a pretty fundamental part of that version of the game to just do no work to add this to this version and make it the ultimate version.
    I think thats just lazy.. Nightdive would have done that work.
    Also.. Petpeev.. I play on Xbox.. It has this cool feature called Play Anywhere and that these games dont support this.. It feels extremely shortsighted especially when PC versions are releasing on Steam it makes no sense to not use this awesome feature on the Xbox.
    So my disappointment just keeps building with this release and Aspyrs general approach to these remasters..
    Tomb Raider collections and Soul Reaver collection being handled by Saber are an exception.. Aspyr is getting the credit for their amazing work.
    Aspyr themselves are lazy easy ports with the most bare bones work done to ship.
    Nightdive are much like Sabers efforts the definitive way to do these remasters.. Some should be preserved.. Some need minor work to bring them up to a more releasable state. Control tweaks in game as well as controller input tweaks things like that maybe redos of some models in the game or textures.. But with the intension to never lose the originals appeal in these changes and them always being for good reasons not silly current day politics reasons.
    Upping Laras model for example is great.. The fact you can flip back and forth with the OG graphics as well is so awesome.
    Croc also looks to be an outstand remaster of a classic title from that period.. I love seeing these games they their dues and reentry into gaming though modern platforms.. Theres so many gems across the PS1,N64,Saturn to PS2, GameCube, Xbox, Dreamcast era and the MS-DOS to XP era of gaming.. Loads that can come over and enjoy new light and success with possibilities of being reborn IPs to boot.
    So more of these please.. But please do the work to make these definitive versions. Not lazy Aspyr ports.
    Some more id like to see..
    Tenchu 1, 2 and 3.
    Blood Omen 1, 2
    Tekken 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Tag
    Silent Hill 1
    Onimusha 2, 3, 4
    Star Wars Dark Forces 2, Jedi Knight 2, Academy.
    Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds.
    Diablo 1
    GTA 1, London, 2
    40 Winks
    Army Men 3D
    Ronin Blade
    Metal Arms
    Return to Castle Wolfenstein
    Ect
    I really could keep going but you get my point.. Hell theres still Star Wars Episode 1 The Official Game, Demolition and Masters of Tera Kesi.. And Shadow of the Empire from that eras consoles that can be ported they will find that original market and some new people wanting to check them out.
    Theres Rogue Squadron 1, 2, 3 and Naboo Starfighter as well but I feel Nintendo still holds some rights on that particular franchise at least over 2,3 as they personally finances those titles alongside LucasFilm.
