My sister, aunts, cousins have been married for over thirty five and forty years. No affairs. Their best friends . Their mindset is we married and no matter what we’re going to keep our shit tight. I know I'm happier being divorce after 28 years of an unhappy married that started in the 18 the year. I'm having fun and enjoying life again, hopefully sister better off with what ever she's doing. Been 13 years since the last time I've seen her, life's great, I'm traveling with friends, sharing cross country drives with my riding female friends, dinner's, movies, beaches, fishing, bowling, bicycle riding, canoeing, jazz concerts, comedy clubs, life's been great being single but friendship's are great as well. I hope you don’t believe she really chose to remain single until 47. There have been many rumors about her for 20 years. I actually like her but...she suffers from what even regular women suffer from and that’s being locked into a very specific type/level of guy. When that guy (almost invariably) doesn’t come calling for more than sex, these women just stay single, or grab what they perceive as a lower level guy and ruin his life.

The "double standard" never ends, a lot of men never marry and some marry very late in life start a family and that's ok by society standards. Who really cares if you're older and single. A lot of married people are not in healthy, thriving loving relationships. I noticed more married young professional women in the workplace were very difficult to work with. Misery comes in many packages.

I once dated a guy, who told me out flat, he would not have a problem beating me if I stepped out of line with him. When he told me that, it was time to cut him loose. I was not going to be with anyman that I had to be afraided of. I lived through that hell as a child. I rather be alone raising my two boys , than go through hell with a with someone's son. Yes, many nights I was lonely but I was safe and unharm.
These days that is what is important. Men and women would like to be in a relationship but we want to come through it alive and safe. Like the saying goes, Love is not supposed to hurt. My situation was different with my husband stop coming home and neglected responsibilities. Im not in a hurry and not ashamed. There is such a thing as "choosing yourself". Many of us choose to do that and we're not bitter and angry. I was married once and engaged twice afterwards. After accepting the ring, I saw behaviors in those men that led me to the decision that they were not my "happily ever after" so I called it off. When/if the man ever presents himself with qualities I desire I will gladly enter the state of matrimony. I will give 100% and expect him to do the same.
