Oh man, playing the original Half-Life was a trip. Before playing the original game I tried the demo, and fighting outside the facility blew my mind. Up to this point I’ve never heard nor expected video game enemies to react to objects, like a primed grenade. The first time I realized what was happening I felt like a kid, it was an electricity surging through me in that moment, and I was most definitely _not_ a kid at least not after my following birthday anyway.

sadly if the game do not bring all of the money. Valve are not intrested. sure the vr hf game is not a money grabber. but demo games are always going to get out of valve dark corners. but untill gambling and virtual accesories are no longer accepted. this is the fate of the valve office. single player games with a mostly set path are right now a dead genre. open world is right now the game to make. i got bored of them 10 years ago and sadly they are still going strong. the new metro exodus is sadly really really bad thanks to the open world parts.

@@TheElcentralen While single player pure story driven is fading, it hasn't fully died(Obra Dinn, Control, and I'm sure i could find others if i could be arsed to), it just requires interesting mechanics, and the story REALLY has to do the heavy lifting, VR is really the best course to revive the genre at this point in time. Valve can't be bothered because they can sit back and make money by running the platform. Honestly since VR is a new Forefront in gaming, also they put out their own headset, i would not be surprised that they'd put their hat back in the ring for game production, or at least for DLCs for Half Life Alyx

Haha. I think Portal 1 and 2 are already pretty much perfect, there is no need for a sequel. I think I'd rather see Valve tackle a new IP.

i believe what made you guys feel nauseous was having no crosshair. i was playing the witness and being just a puzzle game i didn’t expect to feel sick. turns out once i turned on the crosshair feature i didn’t feel sick anymore. i wasn’t the only one who thought this, i found out about it on reddit...

That's exactly why the only thing the HUD show you in mirror's edge is a little white point.
That's one of the main reason that crosshairs were invented

The greatest moment in Half Life was when the character's mouths moved when the talked! This is around the same time Resident Evil 2, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy VIII came out where their heads just bobbed up and down when they talked.

I mean, Half-Life 1 was supposed to be cheesy as well as serious when it came out, so it does switch between cheesy and serious many times during the game. The scientists are always a blast.
I feel old after watching this.
My dad played HL1 when it came out. He was a software engineer working nights in the Sears (Willis) Tower in Chicago. He would play HL multiplayer towards the end of his shift with his co-workers. Much to the dismay of my mom, who would bundle me and my brother up, who were at least 4 or 5 at the time, drive out to pick up my dad, and wait longer than needed because my dad forgot what time it was.
Fast forward to today, my dad is thinking about finally getting games for his gaming laptop that he never uses. And the first game he will get is Black Mesa.
By the time I have kids (even though I doubt I ever will) they will probably be in their swaddling clothes when HL3 drops. And my wife (even though I doubt ill have one, since Im 25) will wonder why Im playing a game from the 90s in preparation for a game that will likely never come out.

Awesome story. Though now I feel really old, because I played HL1 when it came out, I was 12.
It was the first game I played at home, on our not so new pc. Imagine playing the game at 640x480 and it's choppy and stuttery.

While this is whole some, I have to say this: Thanks to Half-Life:Alyx, the series will finally wake up from its 13-year-sleep, I am not joking. If you say you dont think you will live yo see another half life game, then my friend... That is where you are wrong. If you wanna see what im talking about basically watch HL:Alyx until the very end, the post-Credit scene will leave you in awe.

Triage At Dawn; the best musical score from Half-Life 2 and by far the deepest. The song displays a time of struggle, despair, and futile hope. It really hits hard when it pans through the Combine overcoming Resistance rebels in a firefight. It displays the fact that the Resistance is futile because if you remember correctly, the war between every last drop of Earth's forces and like 67% of Combine's forces ended in literally 7 hours. SEVEN. I shed a few tears listening to this song for the first time.

If you REALLY want to understand your boyfriend's feelings about Half-Life: Alyx, complete Half-Life 2 Episodes 1 and 2. After you beat the second episode, you will REALLY know. Trust me, if your boyfriend reads this he will totally understand.

I will never forget the intro to Half-life when I first played it in 1998. There was nothing like it at the time, and it felt so immersive. It was amazing just watching all the attention to detail, and the whole world feeling so alive. I have great memories of it, and to this day it's still one of my favorite games. Also, Barney rules.

To this day, I've never finished that game, and it saddens me immeasurably, because of how much I love the original Half Life.

It's been wonderful watching through your backlog in the last few days since getting recommended your channel- I feel like I got to watch a whole wholesome journey about sharing the things you love with the people you love, and see Shelby learn to love video games, and now she just reviews games she plays, no real gimmicks about it other than the perspective of someone who knows these games are classic, but is experiencing them herself for the first time. And that's wonderful.

It's hard to believe looking back that Half-Life was going to be so monumentally influential in how I judge other video games.

Just came across your site today. You have the best video game reviews that I've seen. You capture exactly how it is to play games today and express a true and genuine love for the medium. Truly excellent work that is a joy to watch. I recall watching Adam Sessler and Morgan Web capturing that spirit well in the mid-aughts and this reminds me of that. Two people who really love playing games and providing very well thought-out, genuine, and funny take on the games you love. The fact you're a couple and that shines through makes it even more interesting.

When i played Half-Life: Uplink in 98 i was so amazed... I kept the CD with the demo until today and the series remain nr. 1 in my fav games of all time list.
