When I was a little boy, I used to see this promo on TV while my family and I were staying in a cottage in the countryside, can't recall where but it used to give me brief nightmares about the talking TV coming towards the screen as fast as anyone could run.
The nostalgia hits me so hard sometimes i feel like crying a bit out of happiness that all this stuff, no matter how small it was contributed to me having very fond memories of my childhood.
Piano Girl Good times, too bad T.V has become a cesspool of shows about teens seeking attention and fame only and instead of you know, actual enjoyable T.V shows.
Piano Girl It's a fact actually, the shows with teens looking for fame, is a thing, and there are TOO many of them, those shows dominate pretty much every time slot
+GamerHats It's fact that they dominate time slots on _some channels_. It is _not_ fact that they dominate TV in general. That's just your skewed perception.
It's about media literacy. It's reminding children that they should always think for themselves and not to believe everything they see. It's about critical thinking, and the difference between fiction and reality. It tells kids that they have a choice about what kind of media they expose themselves to, and advises them to be smart about it.
@@moonsigil these commercials were really bad at conveying what they were meant to, like the house hippo was meant to say not to believe everything you see on TV, but instead it just made a bunch of kids think house hippos were real.
It’s honestly a shame that this company no longer exists! We need PSAs like these, especially now with the explosion of social media platforms and the many existing forms of technologies that children access. The abundance of choice and availability of these for children is now more than ever! This is why this company should continue to be funded. We still need to reach kid’s through RUclips ads, Netflix, Prime, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc. It’s tricky to adapt but if this company still existed it could continue to make a difference like it did for me in my childhood!
@@itzsj7760its quite literally the exact opposite of that. But look at me, trying to explain something to an idiot who says “dis” *sigh* you’re too far gone anyhow.
I honestly thought the TV had an uncanny appearance from the early CGI, but I enjoyed this PSA, and it conveyed a good message, and it’s good to encourage children to make their own decisions.
i haven’t seen or thought about this in years but the minute it came on, a locked memory was immediately retrieved and i recited the entire thing, inflections and all.
I remember all these PSAs from Concerned Children's Advertisers. These were on so often that I probably watched more of them than the shows themselves. Here's a T-Rex RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
A Lot Of Them Were Really Preachy,Too. Like That One With The Kid Running From The Girls Trying To Kiss Him: Do You KNOW What I Would Have Done To Have That Happen To ME,At That Age? A LOT (I Never Went Though A "Boys/Girls Have Cooties" Phase). I Never Payed Enough Attention To Them For Them To Have Any Affect On Me.
Looking back on this, though the message is kinda dumb, the writing and editing is really fast paced and visceral. It's really good at keeping your attention. I remember loving to see this commercial as a kid, and even today it's still fun to watch.
The message isn't dumb, it's encouraging kids to go outside and play instead of watching tv all day. And it's a message put out ON TV. Very clever; I doubt you will see that today on any network
I agree with Eva. That message is not dumb. It teaches kids on how not just that you are smarter but you have choices that you can make yourself instead of people doing them for you. Besides, it is better to make your days the most fun that you can make by going out to fun places instead of being at home watching random stuff on TV.
Not dumb at all. It's about media literacy. It's reminding children that they should always think for themselves and not to believe everything they see. It's about critical thinking, and the difference between fiction and reality. It tells kids that they have a choice about what kind of media they expose themselves to, and advises them to be smart about it.
its funny how you hate this as a child. after that when you become an adult you love it because its the closest thing you have to making you feel like a kid again. kill me
I remember as a small child I used to see this and think, "I should go outside, it seems nice", but I had no friends for a long while and I'd feel lonely outside.
After all these years I still stick by my TV to play games. Don't worry TV, even if I stopped watching your programs I'm still with you. I won't abandon you for the outside world.
I remember this. Must have seen it about ten times a day as a kid....well, at least the days when I was at my grandmas because our house only gets basic cable.
I remember just trying to figure out all of the clips that TV was showing at the end. I assumed Mom and Dad were stock footage, but then it's ReBoot, Uh-Oh, and some Hercules animated series. Man, that last one killed me for a long time, but I'm smarter than any TV.
This commercial scared the crap out of me when I was young! Because of the talking tv whenever it came on I had to hide under something until it was over
The nostalgia has hit me hard in the childhood, I remember seeing this about 10 times on TV. I was bored because no one wanted to play manhunt outside, and also Maggie and the ferocious Beast was the Shit ! Get up every morning and getting ready for school, that show will be on.
another one of those commercials I actually forgot about. This is crazy! I remember seeing these ads like all the time on television, they used to annoy me so much. Used to give me a nightmare where this talking 📺 came towards the screen with his mouth, when my family & i used to briefly live in a cottage as far as I remember.
How does that TV creep you out? It is just an animated TV that can talk. Besides when you look at it, you can see that the hand with the remote, the cat and the channel flipping part is filled with live-action and animated shows and parts to it. So to be honest, it is actually pretty cool.
