- Swiping experiment on 30cm x 60cm (12" x 24") canvas using floetrol as my pouring medium with coconut milk hair serum for cells. Which 'swiping tool' gives the best results???

Agreed. I also think it lends itself useful to a graphic/graphics overlay or addition media layering. ( since it is " muddy" ) of some sort..

Folks, she was experimenting. She can use any type of paper towel (wet or dry). We personally use Viva paper towels and they are very heavy and would probably result in a completely different manor than a big box store house label. @pouring Your Heart Out, thank you for sharing your experiment with us. Before I realised that these were three experiments, I thought the finished article that came up as the initial thumbprint for the video, was a deeply wooded scene! Just like stained church windows with the black gaps you put between, as the trunks of the trees! Still looked like that even after watching the whole thing. Gorgeous!

Quite honestly, all three sections are just beautiful! They each have their own organic personality. Spot on with the colors you chose too!! I sincerely enjoy watching and listening to your processes of thought, instruction, and execution of each pour you do. The sign of a good teacher:)

Funny I got annoyed by you fixing the imperfections 😂 I actually loved the imperfections. I soo would hang it on my wall. Love the fact that each tool gave it a slightly different look. They compose nicely one next to the other.
Thanks for the demonstration. It certainly saved me a lot of experimentation and cost. Some others don’t understand your rational for filming this experiment in techniques to determine the best results. Your online “classes” are appreciated👍‼️💃
Super informative! I actually quite like the paper towel.... it gave a cool effect to the background behind the cells!
I like the plastic best, but paper towel gives a cool crackly back ground for the cells too.

I agree - your plastic sheet is my favorite, too. The cell size is varied, cells are well-defined and evenly spaced and I like that you can see through it to anticipate your edging. But I also like the heavy card stock for its inconsistency - the spacing looks more random and organic. I don’t particularly like how the paper towel swiped - mainly because the tiny cells took away too much of your swipe color (black). That said, I could see how all three tools could be used to achieve different results. Great experiment - thank you for sharing!
I actually kinda like the "grit" in the background from the dry paper towel. The cells aren't quite as nice but the little bit of area where the maybe the black didn't deposit and you have speckles of green coming through gives that side an interesting texture.

I am just learning paint pouring and I found this experiment very interesting! I love the way this turned out and the colours are very beautiful together. I would hang this up for sure❤

I think it's supposed to be a wet paper towel. Still, I like that one the best. So agree to disagree. The plastic is my second fav and my least is my hard cardboard. Doesn't do as much...

I enjoyed the paper towel more, it gave more texture and began making cells from the top as opposed to the others that left all that black on the top. Towel wins it for me! Thank you for the video!🤗🙏

Thanks for showing us the differences between swiping tools. It’s very educational. I think it might’ve been easier to compare without the black stripes between the different tools, though. If they were side-by-side without the black stripes and allows us to see the differences of the cells literally, side-by-side. But again thank you so much for taking the time to do this

Perfect timing on your help. I did two swipes last night and wanted to ask questions but it was midnight. Lol. I used damp paper towels and treadmill silicone. Tiny cells but stretched them a bit. Sounds like I need coconut serum and will try the plastic. Thank you for your help 🤗👍

When i use paper towel for a swipe i wet it very slightly and i think it makes it heavier. In your experience it is the plastic sheet that has the best result 😊

Thanks for this - it was great. Love your colours and the end result. If you are using something oblong,like your card and it's not wide enough, turn it round on it's side and then swipe. I learnt this from always making that mistake!! I really enjoy your videos - you are a great teacher and I bet a fantastic nurse. Cheers, DEB T

As most everyone else says, you get better results with a slightly dampened end of a paper towel. It gives great coverage. Not so much about weight but about area covered with pressure. I like using sheet protectors to swipe too. But I think to really make it an even test a very lightly damp towel should've been used. I like your videos very much!!! Very informative!

Hi, I just used a piece of watercolor stock to swipe my project. You can cut it to any shape and the thickness is perfect - give it a try . Easy to handle
puppy pads... i get them at rite aid, in the dollar days section 4 for a buck.
love those for easy clean up. super simple.
Love your paintings! Try something that i found out is way cool when you just get through doing the pull. Right at the edge of where the black was poured and it goes into your next color, take a straw at that point and blow a good hole in it then watch what happens. Tried it with red, orange and yellow under the black and then watched as the "fire roses" blossom through. Makes for a good object for the rest of it to be coming from. BTW, your a good teacher ;-)
Actually, do it at the second or third color my bad...
A lot of the ppl I’ve seen use a paper towel that’s been wetted with something. I don’t know if it’s what’re or silicon or rubbing alcohol though but it makes ginormous cells when it’s dampened with whatever they use.

Pretty, when I’ve seen people use paper towel they seem to spray dampen it first perhaps that makes it a bit heavier so it wouldn’t loose contact

Loved your choice of colors. I like the middle one best. But I usually see ppl use a wet paper towel. I personally use a piece of a cereal box. I really like the end product. I know it was an experiment but it came out very beautiful.
Thank you for the side by side demo. Now that I know the various texture that each tool gives will help with given creative styles to inmitate. Im thinking, the paper towels will work well for an floral earthy effects and plastics for a marianne look. I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the art lessons.

I can see why you like the plastic divider best.
I do have a comment regarding the paper towel tho. I think you need to wet it, not for the moisture, but for the weight. The cardboard is too heavy and stiff. Dry, the paper towel is too light and wobbly. I do like the hint of very thin lines behind the cells under the towel.
So, I think a good comparison between a damp towel and the plastic would be worthwhile.
Oh, I've noticed that your pouring always tends to be heaviest on our right, which is why is flows so much easier. Just an observation.
Anyway after all that, I love your channel, I love listening to you and the way you explain everything so well. Definitely love your art!!

I like the paper towel effect but my favorite is the center one, I wish you could combine the background effect that the paper towel leaves with the beauty of the center cells.

Julie, Maybe for the people who have missed the point of you using a *dry* paper towel, you could do a comparison of a dry paper towel swipe and a wet paper towel swipe. Great experiment. Very useful information.
Very nice . In order of what i like the best, plastic, cardboard, paper towel.
Midst the paper towel with water gives better contact to paint to drag colours plus you get a better mix of colours.
Beautiful! If you decide to try this again, try spraying the bottom of the paper towel to dampen. This increases weight and contact. However, the plastic did prove itself, didn't it! Always a pleasure to view your videos! Thank you for sharing. Blessings.
I like the paper towel the best cause of tiny bubbles, but all three are great. Nice work.
I like them all they all have a certain something and mix the colours just that little bit differently.

It is fascinating that so many people wished for her to have use a wet paper towel, or partially wet. I cannot quite see how one could have wet a piece of plastic evenly or even a card stock. Moreover she wanted to make a test in her own way, and so she did.
Also I have seen pouring artists in the USA that use small pieces of light cardboard, other use a spatula or another plastic tool, thus not the majority of artist use a paper towel. The first time I saw someone who used a wet paper towel was Saskia Smit Art from Holland that was around 9 months ago.

I have always used a damp paper towel. It adheres better to your paint, you don’t get the air pockets and it makes it a bit heavier. I understand she was experimenting with different weights of the objects and the others wouldn’t have to be damp because they are naturally heavier in the order she used them. Great experiment though. I believe the results would have been about the same if she had used a damp paper towel as in comparison to the acetate.
I actually like all three. They each have their own attributes.

It helps to spray/mist the paper towel just a little bit with water but I really liked the result using the plastic

Dampening the end of the paper towel first usually helps, not dripping wet but damp only. Still looks amazing as always

This was a great experiment. I did prefer the plastic.
Last time I bought canvas they added a swipe card same size as the canvas. I don’t remember the size but was fairly large pack of five I think. Artist loft. I thought was pretty neat.bought at Michaels. Yes I thought yours was the best. Best wet the paper towel and compare just as a test to your three before you scrape just to see . Curiosity...
