Just to add in here, I've been using this tarp for two summers now, and it's a good product. My biggest concern when I bought it was the low hydrostatic head, but I've slept in it through three serious downpours and stayed completely dry. It's a good piece.
Also, I also use the MLD bug bivy with it (the regular one, though I'm considering buying the 2), and I've worked out a system for the top entry that works great. I run a piece of shock cord from the loop on the tarp ridgeline through the mitten hook at the apex of the bivy and keep it suspended with a cord lock. Getting in and out is as easy as letting the slack off the shock cord and then cinching it back up when I'm inside.

That is the same cord setup I use for my MLD 2. Kinda figured it out on my own as I was playing with during initial setup playtime. Backyard stuff now, heading to TN next week to section AT Erwin to Damascus. Cannot wait to escape northern New England chill...

HAving never used a shaped tarp before this is what I wanted to hear. Thanks for addressing my concerns.

Thanks for the great review. The weight of DCF, less bulky and way less money. I'm definitely going to get one.

I've had my eye on that tarp for a long time. Love the Kumo and use the Mariposa for winter/heavier trips. GG makes great gear. Thats probably the best, most thorough video yet. I use a diy sil tarp now but.....tempted to give the GG a run. Thanks for the great review man👍

I have the Q Twinn which was the version before this one that weighed about 4oz more. I will add that on my pitch I normally like to pitch the back a bit lower. I think the cat curve prefers that and it offers a bit better protection in wind. Thanks for the review. Very nice.

After doing way more research than any sane person should do I've decided to go this same route. I was looking at DCF but the tarps I looked at came with a $50-$75 per ounce premium over the Twinn Tarp. For that I can also get the MLD BB2 and still have a shelter setup that's right at 16 ounces or so. If I need more protection I'll pack my SMD Lunar Solo.

Thanks for sharing. Looks great. Suggest putting width and length of tarp specs in feet as most of us think in terms of feet for tarps. Eg 7 X 9 foot tarp. BB

7d?! I tried a tarp from 10d silnylon and it was such thin so almost transparent!
Very curious to see how durable this thing is.
    Thanks for the review!

Great review. I got this tarp last year. It has been great, surviving rain no problem. I have been pairing it with the Katabatic Bristlecone bivy (great bivy, btw) and Palasades quilt. I watched your review with interest as I bought a MLD BB 2 this winter. I have been itching to use it come spring. From your review, the combo seems good. How do you like the BB 2 so far?

Holy sh!t, this is my exact same set-up! Nice to know I'm not too far off base. Thanks Steven Brown.

Nick, it is a lonely world out there! Even though YT has tarping folks, in the real world we are far and few between. Whenever I tarp with others nearby in their tents, etc, they all come over and check out the tarp/bivy like it is a freak show....
Anyway, good to see a fellow freak! I love the GG tarp, and the Bristlecone bivy. Just plop it down, tie the head cord, and sleep. I do not see many reviews of the Bristlecone, unfortunately not getting much press. I love how the cordage for the quilt (my Palasade which does get press) ties into it to prevent slippage which seems to be an issue with other bivys.
As for my MLD BB 2, I take it out next week for a section hike of AT from Erwin to Damascus. Playing in the backyard with it I like it so far. Seems to work well either way of staking corners or not. I will be staking corners. I found using shock cord thru the mitten hook and adjusted with cord lock works great. Easily raises and lowers both ends. Anyway, the trail will be the true judge. Boys with toys... I will let you know how it goes.

@@NickCooper74 Quick update after TN AT section hike. GG Twinn and MLD BB2 combo worked well. 2 days pouring rain, stayed dry/comfortable. Setup more involved then BC bivy, but not a big deal. Overall, pleased with performance/setup. Packs up small into my GG Kumo pack, which is important as with these types of packs space is always thought out. Kept my base wgt at about 9.5 pounds.

@@stevenbrown234 Super cool that you let me know! I'm taking the financial plunge and buying the Borah cuben fiber bivy and Zpacks new pocket tarp w/doors. I'll be section hiking the PA. part of the AT next month with this set-up.

@@NickCooper74 Ironically, I too have been eyeing the ZP pocket tarp with door. I can see use with my Bristlecone bivy, or with their bathtub floor/StoS bug net. Been thinking about a pyramid type shelter for Scotland next year (Hebridean Way), could fit the bill both weight wise and function. Let me know what you think of it after your PA hike. I have done up to Boiling Springs. On my list is the rest of PA, rocks and all. Have a great hike!

Hey Gentlemen. Popular video - see what a buzz it is when a video suddenly takes off. Sweet feeling aye? Hey boys, can I suggest you work on improving your RUclips home page - it looks very empty. It doesn't look like you have many videos as the only row shown is uploads and it doesn't show much. You have to click on the videos tab to reveal all the amazing videos you have published. Capitalise on that and advertise them on your landing home page. If people both to click on your RUclips page - the home page is as far as most people get. If its empty - you missed them. Check my home page out to see what I mean. Blue Boy.
