If there are any art commentary video suggestions you have for me, don’t be afraid to comment them down below! (Guys please read the description, that’s what it’s there for 😭)
Totally agree and when someone says “black coded” they usually mean stero types. And there’s nothing wrong with being apart of a stereotype a whole race of people but we really need to get more diversity in anime but we shouldn’t project, instead we should actually create new diversity in media (Edit oct 1 because I just realized the grammar was bad)
Tbh race headcanons are only valid if both a) you can not see the character and b) there is no race that they have been given in a description of the character (aka podcasts like Tma or wtnv in which we were never explicitly given a description of them or the characters race) (also the mlp thing)
i think race swap AU's are fine- but saying: i think deku is black when hes canonically japanese in the show is weird as hell- cuz like theres a difference, one is just like:: "oh what would this person look like if they had different skin" and the other is: "i think deku is black in the show"
In my opinion, it's ok to do race headcanons with non-human characters, as they don't have a canonical race so it's a matter of interpretation. Mlp is a good example of this! Some headcanon Pinkie Pie as black and others as a ginger. It's a matter of personal interpretation.
Exactly, people don't understand what headcanons are, I often headcanon people as neurodivergent or as sexualities, especially if those topics aren't touched on in the media. It's meant to explain or to be ideas of what we don't see and what we don't know, it's not overriding canon. If it does override canon, then it becomes an alternate universe idea and not a headcannon.
okay so, i havent watched the video yet, so sorry if this is mentioned in thr video, but race headcanons are headcanons if the characters race is not canonically mentioned, implied, etc. in the original media. ex: anthro characters, characters with unnatural skin color and no mentioned race, skinless characters, etc.
such a unpopular opinion! i personally think that ppl shouldn't change a chars race no matter what race, they're great the way they are, and i find it unnecessary, but whenever i try to share my opinion ppl just get super mad at me even when i respect their opinions and listen to what they have to say :(
Finally a sensible person in the comments 😂😂 like why do people think it’s alright to turn a character meant to be white, black, like what? And then if you turned a black character white they’d get all in a frenzy and crazy, which is why they shouldn’t be doing it in first place no matter the race😂😂😂
7:04 If you want representation, make your own show and give us that representation. If your making an anime character black it isn't a headcannon, its a redesign.
I saw someone headcanon one of the creators of smiling friends as a trans woman just because he uses emoticons like :) :3 which according to the person is “girly”
?? You do know that most major animation companies literally aren't ALLOWED to make the characters poc or lgbt, making most characters in popular shows and stuff straight and white. You should not getting UPSET at people for changing their favorite media to be what it WOULD HAVE BEEN if it was allowed to be inclusive.
@@Nutivert I’m sorry but what is this supposed to mean? Companies are allowed to make POC and LGBT characters it’s just that they DON’T because the show won’t be able to air or be accessible in certain states/countries. Also I’m not “upset” about the people wondering what characters WOULD look like as certain races but it’s about the people who think a character IS “POC coded” / “LGBT coded” and trying to force it to be cannon. That’s all. 🤷♀️
@@megakiwi7571 "they don't because the show wouldn't air" Yes. The company they are working for will not let them make poc/lgbt characters or they will not air the show. That's what that means.
one character I actually headcanon to be a different skin color from their canonical version is Trucy Wright from Ace Attorney. Minor spoiler for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney... Her biological father canonically has darker skin and is likely Arab. And even though her mother has fairer skin, she shoud at least have a little bit more melanin than what she has since she's super pale. So, it would make sense for people to draw her with darker skin and/or hair.
unless a character is assigned a specific race mentioned in the main media form people can headcannon whatever tf they want their ethnicity to be. It's not that serious bruh. Also black people exist in japan and it was never specified deku was full japanese ethnically. people can change the color of his skin if they really want to. its not gonna change the official media, you can just ignore it.
The first part is something I did mention and I agree. Also I’m aware this is not that serious lol it’s just something I wanted to talk abt. And yes black people do live in Japan, never said they didn’t. My apologies for the misunderstanding, I will admit the wording wasn’t the greatest but I also didn’t plan this video out like I usually do. And I do ignore it when I see it on the internet (like I don’t go out of my way to put a comment on it) but my channel is just for me to talk/rant about things, you know what I mean?
im not gonna b rude ab this cus it honestly seems like ur just young n dont know any better but like... i agree with not erasing other representation thats like the part i agree with, but if its jsut some random ass character i dont see an issue??? also non asians can live in japan??? sry if this isnt making sense im tired LOL
(Sorry if this is a bit long 😭) Yes it’s not a big deal I know it’s very much just a character. And yes non Asians can live in Japan, never said they couldn’t but I also see where the misunderstanding was. I didn’t have anything planned out for this video I was just ranting so my bad for making it sound like I was saying non Asians don’t live in Japan 😭 what I meant was that the majority of characters in Anime are Asian so some people getting mad about them all being Asian and barely any black characters is just a bit confusing lol hope that made sense it’s 3am rn
Race headcanons literally arent a thing??? Unless youre talking about blk edits but those are not headcanons idk where you got that. Some people headcanon ethnicities or hc them as mixed when their actual ethnicity isnt canon.

Ah yes, my favorite headcanon: something that is visibly contrary to what the original source material displays

The two dislikes are from the people who do this.
I don’t have a problem with head canons but if they try to force it on me and say that it is a obvious canon then that’s where I have a problem…
