I have a question: how do you prepare for/design your future work? I have loads of ideas and I'm doing well with some basic objects/characters.
But as soon as I try to create more complex scene or something more realistic, I'm doing a lot of unnecessary stuff until I find the shapes and layouts I need. I want to make my workflow more efficient. And I have no idea how. Am I supposed to sketch my design first? Should I use grid for that? Do I need to make a pixel art version? Do I need to simplify my references in a certain way?
But when I asked around, people basically said "we just go for it". This drives me crazy.
Your art is so lovely and a perfect mix of realism and cartoonish style, it is very detailed and well balanced. That's something I'd love to achieve with my works. But how you get to the point where you just start putting voxels in the box?

      Hello,
I usually sketch the scene first, but sometimes I just "go for it" like others, haha.
But to me, the most important thing that I must prepare before working on something is the references. I could spend hours searching for pictures of them. Like what do the doors/windows look like? Which tropical plants should I put on the scene? I think this will help my workflow to be more efficient.
And another way that I think you could try is to voxelize the realistic scene. Like recreating the corner of your garden, your room, or your town in voxel. After much practice, you will get used to the process and easily create more complex scenes.
