Aside from the danger of drowning from sea level rises, Singaporean government is also constantly worry about potential flood contributor from the second most populated nation visitors 'unstoppable' spit habit on their public spaces, so far, its mega project not just take 'drowning' but also 'flooding' into consideration.

Note to the Environmentalist , Sports and Recreations body and Retail Shops Associations and more. Survivorship takes precedence over anything in Singapore including sports and recreation and so forth. If Singapore sinks, there won't be any surfers, kitefoiling boarders around, let alone retail shops etcetera , 80% or more mainland Singapore will be underwater if no drastic action is taken to mitigate the sea level rise. We are as good as dead if this come true. Just remember, Singapore is the 20th smallest island country existing on earth, there are limited options Personally, I am not worried about it cause I won't be around to witness the sea level rise and many of you who are in your 60s will not live to see it. Its only our generation of youngsters that are of concerns just like generation before us worried will we survive after WWII..

The global mean sea level has risen significantly over the years due to climate change and Singapore isn’t the only country in the world to be affected by it. The Marina Barrage and the embankments along Singapore’s coastline are some of the measures taken to cope with the global phenomenon. The “Long Island” when constructed will also have costal protection features.

Oh, boy, I do appreciate your sarcastic sense of humour, I really do! These shots at 11:13 and onward... What a... Ah, "sweet memories" - of me doing OW dives (part of scuba diving course i took there), and those lovely December mornings of '94 at Pulau Hantu... Where the visibility is... erm... wait, lemme consult "Training Records" section of my logbook... Yeah, found it! - the whole... TWO METRES.
Yep, you read it right - not "twelve", and certainly not "twenty". Just TWO. But then I have to add it was on a "good day" - cuz on the other day it was 1.5 m.
And as far as the "marine life" there goes - oh, plenty. On one dive you coud see as much as few dozens of... hydroids, aka stinging sea ferns. Huge beasts, each at least 10 cm long... OK, OK, "almost 10 cm", but still. And then some of "the other marine life there", and some people say this is where this islet took its name from - floating little ghosts, that looked suspiciously similar to plastic bags. Some even carried the NTUC logo on them... Still, scary like hell, ayam tellin' you...
    ;-)

Instead of just sand/soil ‘Long Island’, the ‘reclaim land’ part of the areas nearer to the shore could be prefabricated using reinforced ‘culvert like’ individual structures with multiple levels of 2 or even 3 levels of ‘interlink land space’ placed towards and beneath the sea instead of just 1 ‘land area’ using the conventional land filled method.
Imagine just like the ‘Tuas Mega Container Port’….but having the interlink/3 levels Caissons (Mega Culverts) nearer the shore placed horizontally instead of vertically beneath the sea.

Does not compute because the expected rise in sea water (> 5 meters) does not just flood to the eastern side of Singapore Island only. It’s simply a deceptive ploy to fool its neighboring countries (Malaysia / Indonesia) as they are very wary of Singapore’s sea landfill to extend its land mass.

@anwarsofian354 Singapore was never a part of Indonesia and was expelled from Malaysia in 1965. The Malaysian government was predominantly comprised of Malays in the past and continues to be the case today, their decision was to separate Singapore from Malaysia, thereby invalidating the claim of Singapore being a Malay land. Modern Singapore was founded by the British but the path to Singapore's current success was defined by the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, who shaped the first quarter-century of Singapore's independence. the rising sea levels would course the golf stream to stop resulting in a new ice age in the atlantic region with arctic and polar winds continuing despite the stopping of the golf stream causing a permanent winter across Europa and likely also other streams that push hotter waters north in asia heating the east asian coastal regions
while people generally think of global warming now and global cooling then the change in the fareast would be one from temperate in east asia to a more siberian like climate for china and a more temperate climate for the tropical southeast-asia
in the short run sea levels will rise however in the long run the rising sea levels stopping the golf stream and several others like it will cool the earth in the polar regions causing more water that comes down as rain or snowfall to be locked up in ice shelfs and snowcovered regions that do not melt in the summer lowering ocean levels exposing more land (a perfect opportunity to build up this newly reclaimed land with barriers at the coast to hold in the added sand and earth to keep it from going back under the sea onces the climate naturally reverses again as it has done many times the last ten millennia)
a few things out of our control is also contributing to this for once the weakening of earths magnetic fields coronal solar activity changes
changes to the solar as well as potential future solar flare and in fact we are behind schedule for a coronal shedding of the sun something that happens on a three million year schedule as well as a polar switch (north south the poles are drifting and it is possible this may instead lead to a polar switch through shifting north and south)
a good portion of volcanoes are also expected to increase or restart surface activity (a geological origin for potential future atmospheric effect )
lidar research indicates that several jungles are actually and artificial manmade phenomeno not of natural origin (and the high strain such forestry has had and continues to have on the soil is a ticking time bomb for future desertification same goes for the current amerikan agricultural industry)

The effort will be similar to polder in Holland: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polder
The most cost effective way is to migrate to places with higher ground that could accommodate more population. The overall effects of rising sea level with climate change is unclear, there would be more surprises ahead and solutions need to be adaptable. There are places in the world still sparsely populated, e.g., Australia, America, etc that can be engineered to make the land habitable. Deserts may turn green again with climate change.

The air will be filtered out into cleaner air than outside air while the gas will be use for generating electricity. The remaining slag or called 'newsand' will be use for construction. They should all move to Hainan, China, the Hawaii of the East. The island is 40 times the size of Singapore with a population density of 10 times less, so it will be able to absorb the whole of Singapore's population of some 6 million. The Malays can migrate to Johore, Malaysia, and the Indians to India if they wish.
China is facing a population decline so I am sure they will consider this proposal, especially young people since they had low birth for a couple of decades.

Throngs of mainland Chinese are leaving China to migrate to other countries and you are suggesting that Singaporeans migrate to China? Your forefathers who left China in search of a better future will be saddened by this. As a matter of fact, the country where the most people will potentially be affected by rising sea levels is China, with 43 million people living in precarious coastal locations. At least get your facts right if you want to promote China.

If Singapore reclaims 8 square km, it means another 8 square km elsewhere in the neighbouring countries will be flooded. This is not a neighbourly thing to do. It's best the money is spend by building a thick high wall around the island.Singapore needs to sacrifice the beaches to safe their island. For a beach Singaporeans can go to Malaysia and Indonesia.

Why is Singapore's reclamation work within its own borders unneighbourly? Singapore, as a sovereign nation, has the right to act in its own best interest. I don't see Singapore complaining about the reclamation works done by its neighbours so dont judge others with a standard you don't use to judge yourself with. When it comes to beaches, I choose the lovely and pristine ones in Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam etc. over the substandard ones in Malaysia.
