    We regularly rescue stray animals. Usually, we will bring stray or abandoned animals home, feed and care for them until we can find a good home.
    I will list them on Craig's List or ask around until someone offers to take the animal home with them.
    There was something about this dog that really made us fall in love with him. Especially my husband. And we decided to add him to our family.
    Our family motto is, "We can't save the world, but we can do something about the one in front of us." We never walk away if there's something we can do.
    We saw this dog laying in the road {in the other lane} early Saturday morning as we headed on a two hour drive. He didn't move as other cars slowed down and went around him and I was sure he'd been hit by a car. So we turned around, turned on our flashers and got out to check on him.
    As we got out of the car, he got to his feet and walked to us and it was apparent he had NOT been hit by a car like I had feared.
    It was then we realized why he was there. His companion {another dog} had been hit by a car and lay on the side of the road where he'd been guarding.
    It broke my heart.
    We were all dressed in church clothes and the dog did not want to get in the truck so we decided to tray again if he was still there when we came back through. I spent the day praying hard for him!
    Sure enough, 10 hours later, we headed home and found that indeed, he was still by the road, but he'd moved down into the grass.
    We loaded him up as vehicles passed with more than a few people telling us they were so glad to see someone helping him and a local person explained that his owners had moved away and left the two dogs behind - abandoned them. And that he'd been sitting there for a few days.
    We brought him home, initially thinking we'd name him Hatchi - if you haven't see the movie, you NEED to: amzn.to/1hijOeO
    Anyway, we brought him home, cut off the matted fur, fed him and took a walk with him. By that time it was late, so we locked him into the new dog kennel we'd purchased a few days before and I even wired the latch shut, fearing he would otherwise get out.
    Well, Sunday morning, we woke up early to find he'd pushed through the gate, snapped the wire in half and disappeared.
    For nearly 3 days all we did was look for this dog! We talked to everyone we saw walking down the street, every police office, everyone at the humane society. We drove a couple hundred miles around our small town slowly - looking everywhere.
    We finally located him a few miles from our home laying next to someone's front porch. He was happy to see us, but he had no idea we'd been searching long and hard for him!
    We'd originally thought we'd name him Hatchi, because we'd found him loyally staying with his buddy who had died. But, in the end, we named him Tucker. He's incredibly sweet, very gentle, and we've yet to hear him bark.
    On Wednesday we got him a dog tag and we've been paranoid about letting him out of sight. We're so glad he's home!

      Is Tucker neutered yet? It might be worth considering as males have a tendency to get loose to hunt for bitches; that leads to a greater risk of theft and being hit by a car. Micro-chipping makes it a lot easier to get your dog back if he goes missing. All vets, animal control officers and dog shelters have the reader. Should Tucker get loose and get taken to a shelter, the FIRST thing they SHOULD do is scan his neck with the reader. It brings up the chip code, the shelter rings the micro-chip company who then tell them who the registered owner is. Instead of searching for 3 days you could've had Tucker back within 24 hours if he was chipped.

    I think you guys did the right thing! As much as we would like to follow proper rescue protocols if you will , let us not forget this wonderful and kind family went out of there way to help tucker. The bottom line is he's safe now and that's what is really important. Not everyone can do what they did so I admire and respect what they did for tucker. Great job guys!

    Today is Feb. 1 2016, and I just read this rescue story! I am a retired teacher of special needs students, but I am really a "devotee" of special stories of rescue dogs! Tucker's story is especially "heartwarming," because it certainly could have had many different endings, none of which would have been positive! He is very fortunate that he was rescued by your loving family, and your family is also fortunate that y'all found him! Enjoy each other!!!

    Thank u family for saving Tucker.. He really a sweet boy.. I would love to hugs kisses him. Protect, love and care as a family pet till its last days... Give him all the happiness forever!❤ Never leave him out ur side cus hes (urs) mind.........Animals cant talk we talk for them we help them, though we can save all, but pray all animals would have a chance to be love, care etc......, but one save will make a whole change for one animal life! Cant imagined why humans are scary, why want to hurt animals? Animals is God Creation! They all deserved to be respected with Love! Animals just like us, they are loyal beings💜 The people who left him alone abandoned him, karma will goes back to these bad ppl!
    Now that Tucker has u....Thank u so much guys. Happy to see happy endings💜 We trust ur love to Tucker sweet dog... God Blessings to u all out there..Take Care

    I think what you did was so kind but he really needed to go yo the vet to get checked out immediately. If you are going to rescue an animal, there are certain things you need to do for the protection of the animal. Maybe he had a microchip and his owner has been looking for him all over. Remember how upset you were when he went missing for 3 days, just think how his owner (if he had one) might have felt. God bless your kindness....but there's more to it than just picking him up.

    • @maxventana
      @maxventana 7 лет назад +8

      I was thinking the same thing while watching. The family in the video is to be praised for their humanity, for stopping on the side of the road to rescue this poor dog. But the dog probably should've had immediate medical care. I would've been nervous pushing him out of the ditch, he could've had injuries or illnesses that put him in terrible pain by being handled like he was. He needed to be thoroughly checked out by a vet as quickly as possible. There was absolutely no mention of a veterinarian in this video, I hope they actually took him to one.

    • @leedean8967
      @leedean8967 5 лет назад +4

      Great advice. Even if you can't afford to pay, please take injured animals to a vet. Maybe a Good Samaritan will pay the bill.

    • @sophiechia7113
      @sophiechia7113 4 года назад +2

      Exactly. These people did an amazing thing but like u said there's more to it than just assuming the dog is helpless and has been waiting for somebody to pick him up. I don't think they gave a thought what the dog felt when they lost him for three days. The dog obviously escaped, what if he didn't want to be locked up in there all day. They didn't really put two and two together when they took in a dog they didn't know and then shortly after he escaped by himself.

    • @edwardhernandez442
      @edwardhernandez442 2 года назад

      Yeah that would have been ideal. People tend to over think stuff myself included to the point where they end up talking themselves out of let's say a dog rescue. Sometimes we just have to get up and do it . What is right and what is wrong is irrelevant because tucker is in a much better place and h could've easily been hit by a car guys. How many times have we seen a dog in distress and failed to act on helping them because we just figured out that we wouldn't be able to pay for the vet bills and dont have room to take em in? Hence, we end up driving away leaving the poor dog open to the elements. I say kudos to the family and wish tucker all the best 👍

    TUCKER WAS LOVED AND CARED FOR BEFORE YOU FOUND HIM. HE IS SUFFERING THE PAIN OF HIS LOSS AS HE BECAME ABANDONED. I BELIEVE HE LEAVES IN ORDER TO SEEK TO FIND HIS OLD HOME AND OWNER. IT WILL TAKE TIME BUT I PRAY HE WILL THINK OF THIS HOME AS HIS OWN. IT IS KIND AND GOOD OF YOU TO ACCEPT HIM. I WONDER WHY HE WAS SO WELL CARED FOR THEN LEFT LIKE THIS INSTEAD OF REHOMED.

    That's the 1st thing that crossed my mind... As I just watched the Movie... "A Dog's Way Home"!!!💖😓😢😍🤗😉... Where Bella had traveled Many miles to get back to her Family... And almost didn't find them because it had been almost 2 years and they had moved!!😓😢😣...

    So it looks like your heart was in the right place, but if the dog had broken ribs for example, moving him like that could have punctured a lung, etc., etc...just like with a human being. It’s wiser to carefully place the dog on something, anything, flat. Also, no mention was made whether you took the dog to a vet. Several commenters inquired with no reply.

      I've noticed several people have asked that question. She has yet to respond to it. Great Pyr can have health issues due to their giant size. If they'd been neglected for some time, which I'm sure they were since the owners didn't care about them, he really needed to be seen & neutered if he wasn't already.

      If they took, they surely didn’t show or state it anywhere. I guess they didn’t. The way the dog was handled was reckless. If he was hit by a car or something, picking him like that could do even worse.
      They were really busy filming the adventure but not doing the right thing...

      I am completely and utterly amazed and also angry that the family didn’t bother to answer you.
      As some people said before, I doubt they even bothered to take the dog to a veterinarian. One should do it ASAP. To check if he had a microchip and check for any health issues. It wasn’t in the middle of the night. It was just “fun” to grab the dog and video the all time, while the children picked all that weight. Not a nice rescue to see...
      I hope the poor dog had a somehow good life with this family.

      @@MelissaRingstaff Unless my eyes are deceiving me, here is a video of great length obviously showing two young ladies struggling to get a big dog out of a ravine and into the cab of a pick up truck, while the male or makes with them appear to stand idly by as they struggle. I just had my eyes examined at an opthalmologist a few weeks ago and was told my eyesight is good. I can give you their contact information because apparently, you can't see.

      Lee Dean, he’s my husband and has a back injury. Thanks for your concern. My girls are fine, healthy and strong enough to handle it.

      @@MelissaRingstaff ... and it’s amazing how you are just plain rude answering.
      Maybe you should have answered other important questions people have made here, like if you took the dog to check if he has a microchip, if the dog was checked by a veterinarian, and worst of all, someone stating they had lost a dog that looked like him.
      Shame on you.

    I hope you at least searched for his owners before settling on keeping him. perhaps since he likes to escape, that he also escaped his true owners.

    Not for nothing but when a dog won't move from the spot he is in it is very likely he is injured or incapacitated in some way --- not for nothing but this guy should have been seen by a vet when they got back to town.
    Likely he has more than one tick hitching a ride and several other stowaways.:(

    Did you even attempt to find his owners/scan for microchip? Pyrenees are notorious for wandering miles away from their property and going back home...which may have been why he broke out of your place the first night!

      +Sarah D Yes, we asked all over. All of the locals told us that their owners had moved away and left the two dogs behind. He had been laying there with his deceased friend {dog} for a couple of days.
