Hi Jason should heat back up nicely, I would have added water to start with. I would have put sticks and twigs at the bottom to help with oxygen deep down. Put a tarp over to help mimic the clay cap? Let’s go!!👍🏻🤠💗🤞🏼
I was thinking of you while flipping it !! I remembered your comment on the original build video last week. I wanted to see what adding zero water would do in a SPRING pile. I'm starting to think that spring and fall piles are vastly different, mainly due to the CN and natural moisture levels in the materials. I'm glad I got in there, dry as a bone and the temperature drop (30° in 2days) was I key indicator that the pile ran out of moisture, I think ? I love this stuff, brother !! What do you think ? I did put leaves at the bottom, but agreed stick or even hay like material would be great !! I'm debating taking the tarp off ? Thanks a million brother, love your perspective and suggestions!! Cheers J&C 🌱🤜🤛👍🤠🔥

it's very interesting to make compost using the solomon's method, I just found out about this method, I hope the compost results will be good for the plants you plant, keep up the spirit
This is the cool thing about composting, you can do as little or as much as you want too. I learn every time I make a new pile. I think your pile got hot and cooled quickly because it was dry, actually that was a good thing. When a pile reaches between 155F to 160F it uses up all the oxygen and becomes anaerobic, that is when we start gassing off the nutrients we want in our compost, nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorous. This will be an interesting experiment, I may not have added any water with all the new nitrogen you added, just hope it does not get too hot. I started a pile about a week ago. It reached 160F in less than a day, and had to flip it, then less than 2 days later back up to 155F, had to flip it again, but this time I added some carbon. Today is the 3rd day and temp has been resting at 140F, will flip it today. Had I just let that pile sit any longer I would have loss a ton of nutrients. Recently sent in an aged hot compost sample for analysis. Everything was good, except low in nitrogen. Ph 7.6, P 422 ppm, K 826 ppm, Ca 4755 ppm, Magnesium 1132 ppm and the organic matter was at 40.3%. They expressed the Nitrogen as needing to apply 0.6 lbs. of a high nitrogen fertilizer per 100 sq-ft. Wish they would have just giving me a value. I am sure that pile just got too hot at some point, or I did not have enough high nitrogen components. I can look at the biology of my compost under the microscope, and I do, and it's pretty good. I was just curious about the actual nutrient value. Now I am glad I did, and will pay more attention to the temps on my piles. That was a special putting the wedding flowers in. I save all the flowers I bring Kathy through the winter for the compost too. Stay Well my friends!!!

I can see flipping the bin 1 more into the bin on the left and filling up the right most bin with all new materials. I would be pretty sure that a lot of the water got baked out of the pile because it got up to 160. I have had the same thing happen with my bins when they get that hot. You're just a kid making mud piles toward the end of this video!! Does Colleen know you used you all's wedding flowers in the compost pile??!? 😱I just ordered his book from the library, thanks for the suggestion!! I can't believe the compost wizard now has 2 compost bays he is not going to touch for months/years...can't be done!! You'll be in there sooner rather than later to "check on them" Excellent video J&C!!🪱🪱🪱
Colleen insisted !! Very special pile indeed, I wouldn't bet the house on it, but I'd bet alot I won't turn for months !!
Awesomeness, while you wait, check his Soil Health Library online. He made it a free resource. He's worked many different types soils around the world.
Favorite gardening quote from him -
"We should far less concerned with the trace amounts of pesticides on our food, we should be far more concerned with the trace amounts of nutrients in them" ;)
Big week coming up Brother, can't wait to you see it !!
Cheers Patrick!!
Stay Awesome!!

Great new technique, how much did the temperature rise to after this turn? I need to take my composting more seriously and buy a long thermometer. Thanks for the info and ideas. Take care 😊
Good question we left Victoria 48 hours after leaving, it was 135°F. But I fully expect to get to 155-160 again and stay there for a week or sooo. Maybe I should ask me nephew for a favor and get him to check :)
Definitely thermometer, but as important is a good hay fork. It saves a ton of time, and you're back will thank you for it !!
Probably get one cheap on FB market place ;)
Cheers Bethan!!

@@clivesconundrumgarden oh great, thanks very much 😊
Heat caused the low moisture. That was a very hot pil
I think you totally right. Last year's spring pile was on the moist side, so I wanted to try the opposite this year. Awesome to see and compare the differences !!
Thanks for the comment!!
Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱🤞🔥🌱
Did you have permission to take the flowers 😂, lol! Nice work 👏 😊
She insisted Juani !! You'll see tomorrow, why 😉
Super special:)))
Have a great weekend!!
Cheers J&C 🌱🤞🔥👍😊😊😊
Jason, I am about to fill a raised bed, do you think I should do a video? There is so much crap out there on filling raised beds.. Your input would be appreciated. Cubs Win!!!!
The answer is yes !! Little secret, mist videos we do have always been for us mainly. We like to use them as a learning tool. There fantastic to review in the winter or even a few years from now. I always learn something from reviewing them.
And selfishly, I wanna see how you do it.
Slam dunk - YES !!
Cheers Brian!!
@@clivesconundrumgarden Okeydokey,, but 1st I have do do a farewell video for my jumping worms.
As much as I hate them, they are still God's creatures. I have to pay them some respect for teaching me.
I really do not want to kill them, but I have to.
I am just so, something? I just got teared up thinking about terminating my jumping worms.
Many years ago I killed a deer with a bow, never again for me.
$hit, I made a career of killing $hit, why does it bother me now?
I mean, it is really hard!
I will go anticonventional, how I now fill a bed, and not spend a dime
Wish I knew then, what I know now!
Love you guys! Stay well!!!
@brianseybert2189 ya I'm the same way, I've never killed a slug if that says anything, lol.
But invasive is invasive!!
I probably could take deer and other wildlife if it provides for my family but it's an interesting thing....
Btw you said Fairwell,
Wait to you see our video tomorrow 😉🤜🤛
I bet you dream of compost and worms 🪱😂😂, sure you will you’ll be peeking 🫣 at it all summer. Have a super week kiddos it’s cooling down again 🤦🏼♀️, 💕🌦️🇨🇦
🤣🔥🤣
I wouldn't bet the house on it but I'm pretty sure that will be the last time I touch it 🤞
Hot hot hot by the end of the week!!
Stay Awesome Ali !!
Cheers J&C 🌱🤞🔥👍😊
