Somewhere on Earth - Hawaii: • Amazing Quest: Stories...
Leua, an itinerant vendor, spends part of each year traveling with his family on the Upper Mekong near the borders of China, Burma and Thailand. He knows this mythic river inside and out. Pheng is also an inveterate traveler but he sets out for the most remote corners of the country at the wheel of his old army truck. Pheng, who practices meditation, is progressing on the path of wisdom that all Buddhists dream of traveling.
A thousand km to the south, near the Cambodian border, are the Khone Phapheng Falls, the largest in Southeast Asia. Sohane is a fisherman, a very dangerous profession. Working above these turbulent waters, he places his life in the hands of the spirits of the Mekong.

The Lao PDR is one of the world's few socialist states openly endorsing communism. With one-party statestatus of Laos, the General Secretary (party leader) holds ultimate power and authority over state and government and serves as the supreme leader.
Laos 🇱🇦 is a socialist stateand the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. At the heart of the Indochinese Peninsula, Laos is bordered by Myanmar and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the southeast, and Thailand to the west and southwest. Its capital and largest city is Vientiane. Our Amazing Quest episode in Laos follows the very zen lives of Leua, an itinerant vendor, Pheng, who practices
meditation, and drives an old army truck and to the South, we visit Sohane, a fisherman near Khone Phapheng Falls, the largest in Southeast Asia. It’s a zen life in Laos. Anyone ever been? Please share with us.

I never forget my language or where I come from. My oldest son is 20 yr old and I made sure he speak to me, his father & my parents in Lao. In fact all my kids can speak. My youngest is 7yr old and she so fluent in Lao.

@@FreeDocumentary me too but 1 addiction that I see going on, here in London. Inhaling these little silver canisters, is definitely something not good to be addicted to. Basically, a few years ago, I started seeing these little silver canisters, all around my area, when walking the dog and when walking, in general. At first I thought nothing of it but the more I see bunches of them , the more my suspicion grew. I went home 1 day and Googled it. Turns out it’s the gas to fill balloons. People are buying boxes of them and inhaling, in the street , for a cheap quick high. Any solvent you inhale, is extremely dangerous to your health. It’s quite sad, actually. For years now I’m seeing them, everywhere and only a few days ago, I was out getting breakfast and as I went by a parked car, I noticed the driver throw something out the window and as I passed, it was at least 20 of those canisters. It was like 5am and the guy just launched them in to the road. I literally had to avoid them in case they caused me to crash. It must be so addictive because they are littered everywhere. It was just so shocking to see a guy just casually throw them out the window, like it was nothing. I’m sure others have noticed and know what they are up to. Some people are so low in life that they have no self love or respect for themselves and others around them.

@@grahamkelly8662 Addiction to a substance is a living hell. The path that took one there, the path to getting out. I don't wish that for anyone. I really don't. And while I understand how one can fall into that pit, I wish I could convey the message that life is worth fighting for. But I know it's not as simple as that. I know how hard it is and firstly and foremost, the affected person has to decide for themselves to get out. All in all, it's just a horrible place for anyone.

When I was in junior high school ( I am now 60) my next door neighbors were from Laos. They were very kind, friendly people. Since my parents were Hungarian refugees, there were interesting conversations... about fleeing Communism. ( Though this was usually with the help of a Lao - English dictionary.) My husband is Spanish ( hence my last name) and a chef, I have tasted a lot of international cuisine, but the Lao family once shared an incredibly spicy meal with my parents and I - I will never forget it, it had a green leafy vegetable that looked like spinach and was spicier than even the spiciest Indian and Mexican food - but good!

Great video! Enjoyed it very much. I could have enjoyed it more if I actually watched it, but instead I just decided to listen to it while doing other things.

So Great docu on the daily life of simple happy people but tough both physical and spiritual. Something to emulate more than the life of rich , famous and luxurious possesions but beneath / deep is chaos & unhappy life.

I lived in Laos 2007-2015. Beautiful country with wonderful people and interesting culture. See Laos before it becomes too developed.

My 3 rd trip to Laos - in mid 90s - mid 2000s and currently
Noticed that there’s a lot of Chinese construction in Vientiane… with the new train that runs to Luang Prabang - there’s bound to be more travelers
    Thanks for the story
