I have always incubated mine at 37.6 and every single time all or nearly all hatch. I don’t even turn my eggs. You can tell male or female at day old. Females have long feathered wings and males have short wings. Great video. I will try this and see how I go.
I've just started my first time trying to hatch quail eggs it's my first time so I'm really excited. Just wanted to thank you for your video it was really helpful and useful.
Well... Studies have shown that the size, shape, and color of chicken eggs are determined by the breed of the chicken and not by the sex of the chicken. Additionally, there is no known biological mechanism that would cause male and female chicken embryos to develop differently in the eggshell, which would result in visible differences in egg appearance. But, you can try.
In the philippines, they manage to cross breed japanese taiwan and japanese seattle. the mix breed can be determined from day 1 if female or male. Just search it, I am not joking.
I’ve just started a batch. It’s about 4 days now but I got eggs from local household. I’m hoping they are fertile cause they sold both fertile & infertile. The infertile was way cheaper. I didn’t know about the sex thing but now I’m going to check when I put them in lockdown. I’m doing a dry hatch cause my video research shows people did better at dry hatching. I’m excited and impatient so I have a hard time leaving them alone. I did try candling twice. Today I seen the air sac so I’m hoping that’s a good sign. I only check 1 egg each time so it’s quick and I don’t mess with all of them. I read it’s ok since the mother hen leaves the nest to forage. I also take care of the wild birds around here. I feed the chickens, doves & pigeons daily. My friends & I have rescued the baby chicks and we’ve relocated families so they would be safer. The birds recognize us and come running when they see us. I usually feed them twice a day. My pup chases them cause she thinks they are friends. We have a rescued pigeon who is now family since she won’t leave us. My pup & the pigeon, Epic & Manu play well together. It’s funny to watch them. Epic will grab Manu by a wing and Manu will get away then dive bomb Epic. Manu lays eggs and Epic eats them.

Hi I’m new to the quail game I have 4week old Egyptian jumbo quails. So when the start laying how long do I have before I start incubating? Especially if I don’t want to hatch too many and also want eggs to consume? Thanks for your help and sharing your knowledge/ videos.
This seemed very unlikely but I looked into it & I did find a scientific paper saying there is a slight difference in shape between male & female eggs. So maybe there is something in it!
@@emmaball9900 There are now at at least 3 scientific studies online backing this up, going to try this out if I hatch some more quail eggs. Do a search for 'egg shape and sex determination'

Dear, not all quail are the same. Those are Courtnix. It's like buying feed for a mud duck. Dark meat and the taste leaves much to be desired. The eggs are good however. The Bob White is a much better choice as the meat is white and dense. There is no better eatin on the planet!!!! You will want every rooster you can get!!! The eggs are just as good as chicken eggs, just smaller. Bob White is harder to raise but well worth the effort. They can fly like an F15 so you got to watch em ;)
I differentiate in order to decide which eggs to hatch, as I'm interested in egg production (so female birds). The male eggs are eaten or sold, not discarded :)

You will have to see if it likes pink or blue best - or maybe it will change from day to day? Still not going to lay eggs if it male however it 'identifies'😄

guys this doesn't work, the shape depends on the genetics and chemical balance of the female, sex doesn't make much of difference in hormonal balance
I’m just starting to research growing quail and found this interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Did you make that water dispenser for your quail? Very good way to water them. How did you make it?
I think it actually works because I tried the same theory on chicken eggs and from the 7 chicks only 1 was a male 😀
In the philippines, they manage to cross breed japanese taiwan and japanese seattle. the mix breed can be determined from day 1 if female or male. Just search it, I am not joking.
Just want to say that day 1 is the day it hatched, so no way of determining just looking at the egg.
Do you have a source? I want to check out that research. It sounds very interesting

Idk if you did this already, but on day 5 try candling the egg by using a strong light source(phone flashlight, flashlight anything works)

Hi! Any updates on the sex the the quails? Was your initial evaluation accurate? TIA.
Final tally was all female except one! This method isn't perfect, but works well for me

It's a 50 50 shot I guess. No true way to tell.
Throughout my hatching process, one hen hatches then one rooster follows. 50-50 correct
What bedding are you using?
And what was the result? Was that one that you suspected to be male a male? And all others females?
My co-worker that raises quails just told me the same thing. I didn't know that.

Did the experiment work with the egg's?
What were the eventual results please?
Can this theory apply to button quail eggs? Thx❤
What abt if it isn't fertilized then what shape would it be.
The mother determines the sex of offspring in birds (opposite of mammals)
Still either pointy or round. The sex of the egg is already determined before it is fertilized.
