basically i'm wearing my headphones and they basically sound like hair clippers I really like you setting both of them off and maybe you should make a video testing them both with smoke.......see how quick they are to respond!
This has the same horn as my Nortron TR88. When mine is powered on the red LED light goes on and the unit emits a hum to it. The sound of this one even with both of your detectors didn't bother me. I will post mine soon, I actually like the lower pitched vibratory horn., that is even more powerful than the high pitched DC squealer horns.
thats a slightly later fxw-1 the earlyer ones had a gentex style harness as it was the exact succesor to the fx1014
Cool, my grandpa had those same detectors in his house. They were built in 1985, same year the house was built
Year I was born
Get to the damn point...
there actually is a diffeence between the FXW-1A (and probably the FXW-1). The FX1020 has an interconnect capacity of 6 alarms, while the FXW-1A is either 12 or 18 alarms. I remember seeing that on a box.
Oh so theyre slightly electronically different. I normally judge basic things like horn/sensor/cover and power type
@@BAFVintage yea other than that they seem to be the same
We have one of these smoke detectors in our house. The alarm just went off with a LOUD, SHRIEKING SOUND. It wasn't just a normal beep or chirp telling us to replace the batteries. It was a very loud and disturbing buzzing. No smoke in the house. I was anxious and tried to do some research on what it could be but I don't have anything. Can these old smoke detectors also detect carbon monoxide? Or was it just malfunctioning?
sounds like dust may have gotten into the sensor and triggering a false alarm. you may have to clean the unit itself
My friend has these at his place
Oh my God I had some of my family's house that were in the house in the house was about 40 years old and it kept going off once a blue moon those loud-ass sounds for no reason sometimes longer sometimes short and they were just loud and obnoxious had to get rid of that crap
I actually drawen one of these at school on the while bord today and it's very good 😂😂
Cool! I drew a Kidde KID4077 and its decent
@@CarsAndSirensA Nice!
Help! I’ve been listening to mine chirp for hours! I can’t figure out how to reset it or unplug the power from the ceiling. And it’s driving me crazy! 😭
How long have you had urs?
THIS IS NOT AMAZON HELP CENTER
I pulled the same model out of my grandma’s house from 1980. I replaced it with a forex one.
Its a 120VAC Buzzer that maybe has a low piezo inside of it.
What?
buddy, let me tell you that your ignorant comment is by far the least educated, dumbest thibg ive ever heard, it is far kore differnet than a little peizo horn, it is a thicker diaphram built to handle 120vac if you did research you would find that these are not peizos you litteral dumbass do some research before making a dumb comment first 💀💀💀
I saw this detector IRL at a random house in Alameda, California but the light, does not make me go near
Then the house burned down to the ground from the detector
Looks like u have a lot of Fire X smoke detector now, is there anymore that u want?
I'm still after the FXB (battery version of the FX1218/4618), and I would like a complete FX1218/4618 with bracket and wiring harness
@@BAFVintage I thought u gave the FX1218 to TheFanMan87?
I gave mine to him, but I found another one at my restore and gave that one to him in trade for something else and he gave me my old one back. Plus it made a brief appearance in this video lol.
@@BAFVintage his channel looks like hes vintage&more.
I want that old firex 1020 and the fx-1
Just what I've been looking for! We have one of those alarms at our apartment and literally just this morning it's making the buzzing sounds for no reason. It's literally my first time hearing something like that. I don't know why it's making that sound but do wanna know what to do in a situation like this. Does it mean it needs new battery?
Those r old detectors so probably need replacement
I used to have one!
Oh, mine was a battery powered
That would be the FXB-1, or the Jameson or Sunbeam rebrands
How does this differ from the Firex FXW-1A? They look very similar, and the FXW-1A is what is my (80s/90s?) house. Two have stopped working and have been replaced but we still have all three of them. I’m looking for something to replace one of them right now actually. They make the same sound as the one in your video. The mounting bracket mine is actually the only thing that looks different. The mounting bracket looks like the FX-W1218 (I think that’s what you said it was) mounting bracket you had though. The LED on mine goes out when it is tested, so I suppose it is more similar to the FX-W1218.
The 1A has a tiered test button and pigtail wiring rather than a domed test button and a plug-in wiring harness.
Also I noticed on every other one of these I've seen on youtube the LED goes out when they're sounding. My two are the only ones I've seen whose LED's stay lit while the horn is sounding.
my workplace has the same alarm
I'm trying to figure out how to replace the battery in this smoke detector, can you tell me how? Thanks.
this model does not take a battery. it is AC hardwired only.
like ive said many times before THIS IS NOT AMAZON HELP CENTER
I have a complete set of these in my house in Cali. If anyone wants them, they’re in perfect condition, I’m upgrading them tomorrow and don’t know if just trash them or give them to someone who would value them
might try to sell them on ebay. They are worth probably $10-20 each depending on condition.
@@BAFVintage thanks for the reply, will definitely try this to make up for the cost of the upgraded models
@@germ187 much better than throwing them away, keeps harmful radioactive material out of landfills, makes collectors happy, and gives the seller some extra cash. Win-win situation 😀
My grandparents had the same one when I was a kid. I was scared to death of it.
I like it
The same type that was in my old house
what do you think of the kidde smoke detector model i90-10
Modern garbage
yup I agree
Hi
*blake solo intensifies*
What’s the date on them
The FX1020 has a date stamp but it's so worn I can't read it, the FXW-1 is not dated but both are from the early-mid 80's.
Baltimore Alarms & Fans I have a fxw-1 I would like to donate to you collection can I
I have two in my moms house
hey baltimore fans i still want to challenge you if you ever want to get rid of those firex buzzing alarms let me know……ashamed u can’t hardly find them buzzing ones anymore!!!!!
they appear on ebay every once in a while. This one is childhood for me since it came out of my church. The other FX1020 I have is in rough condition, the cover broke off and i had to glue it back on
bro what are you talking about literally one in 7 homes have Firex units
