    basically i'm wearing my headphones and they basically sound like hair clippers I really like you setting both of them off and maybe you should make a video testing them both with smoke.......see how quick they are to respond!

    This has the same horn as my Nortron TR88. When mine is powered on the red LED light goes on and the unit emits a hum to it. The sound of this one even with both of your detectors didn't bother me. I will post mine soon, I actually like the lower pitched vibratory horn., that is even more powerful than the high pitched DC squealer horns.

    thats a slightly later fxw-1 the earlyer ones had a gentex style harness as it was the exact succesor to the fx1014

    there actually is a diffeence between the FXW-1A (and probably the FXW-1). The FX1020 has an interconnect capacity of 6 alarms, while the FXW-1A is either 12 or 18 alarms. I remember seeing that on a box.

    We have one of these smoke detectors in our house. The alarm just went off with a LOUD, SHRIEKING SOUND. It wasn't just a normal beep or chirp telling us to replace the batteries. It was a very loud and disturbing buzzing. No smoke in the house. I was anxious and tried to do some research on what it could be but I don't have anything. Can these old smoke detectors also detect carbon monoxide? Or was it just malfunctioning?

    • @BAFVintage
      @BAFVintage  2 года назад +2

      sounds like dust may have gotten into the sensor and triggering a false alarm. you may have to clean the unit itself

    Just what I've been looking for! We have one of those alarms at our apartment and literally just this morning it's making the buzzing sounds for no reason. It's literally my first time hearing something like that. I don't know why it's making that sound but do wanna know what to do in a situation like this. Does it mean it needs new battery?

    How does this differ from the Firex FXW-1A? They look very similar, and the FXW-1A is what is my (80s/90s?) house. Two have stopped working and have been replaced but we still have all three of them. I’m looking for something to replace one of them right now actually. They make the same sound as the one in your video. The mounting bracket mine is actually the only thing that looks different. The mounting bracket looks like the FX-W1218 (I think that’s what you said it was) mounting bracket you had though. The LED on mine goes out when it is tested, so I suppose it is more similar to the FX-W1218.

    • @BAFVintage
      @BAFVintage  5 лет назад +1

      The 1A has a tiered test button and pigtail wiring rather than a domed test button and a plug-in wiring harness.

    • @BAFVintage
      @BAFVintage  5 лет назад

      Also I noticed on every other one of these I've seen on youtube the LED goes out when they're sounding. My two are the only ones I've seen whose LED's stay lit while the horn is sounding.
