That tourist trap mall you explored was just a small part of St Thomas. There is a St Thomas beyond that mall that is amazing. But it is your cruise, spend it however you like. May the force be with you
I’m happy you guys got off the ship this time at least! Maybe on the next cruise you’ll finally do an excursion or two? Idk if it’s anxiety or some apprehension about exploring another country but you can book an excursion through Disney. Safe and the ship WILL wait if you’re late since you booked it through them. Don’t be nervous. You’ll get such a fuller experience! Maybe cruise with some friends who have done excursions before and you can all go together.
THIS!!!! You're an angel. I appreciate this comment encouraging excursions than some of these others that are downright judgemental and rude. Others, take note.
Who knows why they haven't tried excursions. Could be fear, anxiety, nerves. Who knows? It's not our place to judge. Everyone vacations differently. Lets not forget that.
I'm curious as to why he doesn't go exploring off the ship more. Maybe it's because he has done it before and doesn't feel the need to do it again but I would love to hear his input while doing activities off the island.
@@stateradio115 I don't think I have ever seen him do an excursion. There was one trip where they were supposed to go to St. Maarten but due to weather a second Castaway Cay stop was added to the itinerary instead. He led on to believe that they had something special planned for that port. Other than the excursions at Castaway, I have never seen him participate. I know I have fears of doing excursions even through Disney. There is something about them that gives me anxiety. We just prefer not to venture too far from the ship.
St. John would have been the perfect place to branch out with an excursion. It’s the U.S.! I get the appeal of being on board when the ship is quiet, and have done it myself when we cruised with a toddler. But even then we found an excursion or two to do on port days with her. It’s their vacation and their vlog, but I bet a lot of viewers would enjoy seeing them do a Disney excursion in a place like USVI sometime.
Trying to avoid sugary beverages and fills the cup with ice cream. Lol.
I mean, those shops might be a nice little walk-thru for the end of your time at a port on your way back to the ship, but I feel you are really missing out on some awesome experiences by not doing an actual shore excursion. My family likes to book on our own if we don’t think we’re interested in what Disney offers, but there are many different options! Some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world are in the Caribbean! Get out there and see them!

St Thomas is a gorgeous place, these old looking alleys with European looking stone building and doors... And incredible beaches. You really missed out, shopping near the port is not the real island. I know it's all personal preference but I could just not stop myself from commenting on this one because St Thomas is just soooo wonderful

@@ItzCaityCat Right but if he never does anything else how can he compare? He also loves food and relaxing views in the hot tub and shows and Disney isn't the only one that has those.
St Thomas is so much more than duty free liquor and cheap T-shirt’s. Their snorkeling, diving, jet skis and stuff are awesome. Pool and hot tubs can be had anywhere but great snorkeling not so much.
Maybe next time you should tell him what you want him to do instead of what he wants to do. IT IS HIS TRIP NOT YOURS! Lol it cracks me up when people complain about somebody else's trip.

TheSilentkoala I was as well. I went to St Thomas in May 2019 on the Fantasy and we did a snorkeling excursion that was tons of fun! I really want the both of them to do an excursion one day.
I feel like you are missing out by not taking excursions when you port. Getting off to do shopping is one thing but some of my families best memories are on excursions on the islands. Just a thought!
Josh Schwartz Exactly! What’s the point of going on a cruise if you aren’t gonna explore the ports? In my opinion, that’s what cruising is all about.

If you guys make it to St. Thomas next time definitely do the St. John Nature Hike excursion. You end up at a really pretty and quiet beach that is only accessible by boat or foot.

Mike, you need to do the Jet Boat island tour at St. Thomas. So much fun! It was $60 on our Carnival Cruise. I don't know how much it would be on a Disney Cruise. It is so worth it. You get to see a lot of the island from the jet boat that goes super fast. Wear your swim trunks. You will get soaked. I can't wait to go back and do it again.

We had never been to St Thomas before either, we booked the skyride thing. it was completely underwhelming. we had an awesome tour and beach stop in Tortola so next time we will look into something similar on St. Thomas. but I was with you - I explored about 5 shops and then got back on the ship!

I was a Stage Manager for a theatre company and I met someone who was very high up in Disney and she contacted the Stage Manager on the Disney Fantasy and my sister and I got a private backstage tour of the Walt Disney Theatre and we got to talk to the techies and performers. It was magical!

i think you're missing out on the golden opportunity that cruising gives you, only getting off a port to visit the gift shops by the ports seems like a waste of a cruise. Why bother going on these longer cruises if the only port you'll explore is Cast Away Key? Seems like a waste of money to not take advantage of these opportunities to see other parts of the world.
Janine We are on the fence on this issue ourselves? We are a family of four, and are going on a Western Caribbean cruise on the Fantasy in May, and after researching Disney Cruise excursions, are finding that the cheapest ones we can find are about $400 for the four of us; and that is just for a beach day! We are going to be in ports for three days, excluding Castaway Cay, and that would cost us almost $1,200 in shore excursions alone! We go on two Disney cruises a year, so have to be carful about budgeting for that as it is. Any suggestions? We thought about doing a non-Disney excursion, thought that makes us very nervous! Janine I should preface that this is our first seven day cruise. The other four which we have been on have been either three of four day on the Dream, and we always stayed on the ship when we were at Nassau.
Bamboo Mike I agree with Jessica.....Of all the cruises we have been on we have never booked through the cruise line because they are so overpriced. You just have to do your homework, read review and booked with a company that has lots of great reviews; also be a where of your time/ ship time. We’ve never had a bad excursion but have had lots of memorable and awesome experiences!!!

We like taking advantage of first run Disney movies on the Disney ships. It's included in the cruise fare, so it beats having to pay at a movie theater! Our whole family loved Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. My son liked that it had more action than the first one. I did a behind the scenes tour in the Walt Disney Theater on the Disney Magic and I loved it!
Just FYI, you can use the Disney Visa discount and pay with gift cards. As long as the Visa is attached to your account at the beginning, it will be marked on your KTWC and they will give you the discount, but then add the gift cards to your account and those will actually be the payment used. We got the discount for our whole cruise, but ended without a single charge on our Visa because we paid our account with gift cards.
As much as I love the cruise ship vlogs, I really wish you'll start vlogging excursions on other cruises. Venture out from the areas right around the port!
Angela Wilson I agree. As much as we love Disney (we go annually) a Disney Cruise looks boring. If the highlight of the cruise is Characters and 1 water slide (and we’ve watched lots of Disney cruise vlogs), we aren’t interested. We sailed the 3 other major lines, Royal, NCL and Carnival and they offer so much more to do. A Disney Cruise does not appeal to my family.
Matt Bunn yes, I know that, but so do ALL the other major cruise lines. However, the difference is other cruise lines, that I’ve sailed, have so much more too:......... multiple water slides, ropes course, zip lines, trampoline parks, go carts, flow riders, Lazor Tag, ice skating, bowling, escape rooms, thrill theatre, sky ride etc. etc. etc. We’ve done the research and Disney Cruises look boring to us. My husband is a travel agent and knows all the ships and brands well.
And yes, we do love Disney. We’ve been to Disney World at 25 times and have done Disneyland as well.
Ryan Moroso yes, I know. My husband is a travel agent and is familiar with all the brands. Our family, that consists of 2 young teens, prefers a ship with lots of activities we can do together; my kids don’t even like going to the kids clubs.
Adding Espresso powder to any chocolate dish is a secret way to elevate the chocolate flavor! I add .5 to 1.5 teaspoons to every chocolate cake or any chocolate baked good I make and it intensified the chocolate flavor without giving it any coffee flavor!
@Michael Kay what I like to do is buy gift cards in advance and i'll have them added as state room credit. Then I have my Disney Visa for my payment method for the room. That way i get the discount, and they will use the gift card state room credit first.

It breaks my heart to read all of these comments. I have been on over 60 cruises and more than half of them I have stayed on the ship the ENTIRE week. Not because I don't like to explore. Not because I am apprehensive. Not because I'm scared to, but because I chose to spend my vacation that way. Yes, I occasionally like to go to the beautiful beaches and shop around, but I cruise for the ship, the crew, the friendships and delicious food and time in the sun. The ports are an added bonus giving us great views to look at, and once in a while, a place to explore.
We try our best to serve amazing food on our cruises, we will try our best to improve for your next cruise

Agreed! At Thomas is awesome! I feel like they don’t explore any of the ports though. I’ve never seen any port adventures that they do. They missed out on so much fun

My family,and I cruise like you! Just enjoying being on the water and what the cruise ship activities have to offer. We don’t do much excursions as we have found that sometimes they aren’t worth the money. We prefer the private islands more so then any other islands that we have cruised too! Love your cruise vlogs! Disney cruise have changed so much since my last Time in 2012. I was on the second trip of boat. Mot much of animation and not as much characters. The boat was kind of hall full. Nice to see the evolution can’t sait to go back.

Such an awesome video, I went to saint Thomas a few years ago. When I went on the Magic, the said they didn’t do tours of the Walt Disney theater. That’s an unbelievable experience.

hey love your videos but i realized when you were in the island you had your Disney Cruise hat on i wouldn’t recommend that on island or when you dock the merchandise people know that you have money from you Disney hat so they will give you a high price
The only people who go to those tourist trap shops right by the dock are people who just got off a cruise ship. The hat doesn’t matter...it’s obvious to the shop people who they are. lol.

That game you were playing in the oceaneer lab where you were piloting the fantasy, I remember playing the same game when I was on the dream a good 7 years ago and I struggled docking and undocking the dream in the game so you aren’t the only one that crashed it lol.
Good seeing you yesterday my kid has so much to say now once you left of course. We go a lot so I'm surprised I did not see you sooner. Keep up the good work and dont forget about TIW (I know I need to let it go but only after you confirm you got it :) ).

It would have been nice to see more of the port instead of more children’s games on the ship. It also would have been good to see healthier, diet friendly options and maybe ways to work out on board. Hope you’re still feeling better!
Michael I love watching these! My friends were on the ship with you! (Guy wearing the storm trooper suit). I just wanna say my family and I would’ve done the same thing. Take a quick look around the port and then relax in the adult section and explore the ship with hardly anyone on it! It’s the best! No worrying about getting to excursions or the stress of getting back on board on time. It’s the best! Glad you enjoyed :)
