When I first saw him he seemed to be too "bossy" or arrogant. Though, now looking at him in more depth, he has some fair points. I like the Jim's comment at 2:33 .
Its the fact that he came after Michael... None can replace The MAN the MYTH the LEGEND under the name MICHAEL SCOTT (though Robert was actually really good :p)

Say what you will about this guy, Robert california is straight up no bs gangsta. James spader does 100% percent to the role. Maybe people hate him because they expect him to be funny like michael but the fact that he’s nothing like him is what makes the show genius. Its true nothing can replace michael scott but robert california is an awesome character and one worth remembering as he is

Where Michael Scott created untouched legacy and became yardstick of show's humour, Robert's role was against the odds and he pulled it like no one could ever imagine. Infact, Michael would seem pale in few of Robert's peak act.

Robert California is the original version of a Brazilian meme called "filósofo Piton". Everything in this life is equal the desire what you want screw someone haha
Altough the whole purpose of Robert California was to have a BOSS who is a man of confidence and an actual alpha male, I think it's brilliant that the creators showed us that even this guy can be fragile with his seemingly small, but actually significant breakdown after his divorce. After his wife leaves him, he experiences how it feels (probably for the first time of his life) when his natural charm just stops functioning. You can see Robert getting slowly but surely more and more anxious as he tries to fake confidence, but others, like his own subordinates, who should see him as their superior leader can see it.
I wonder sometimes what happened to this character after he left the show. I think it's not impossible that he even commited suicide at some point during season nine as he could never recover from his divorce and never become the predator he once was.
i like to believe Robert California is based on Bucky LaPlasse from Het Eiland. Exact same persona, looks like him, same intellect and same disgust for his employees
