Riggs, this is one case in which the mods are actually an improvement! Any time I've played an electric with an added piezo I tend to always keep that pickup mixed with the magnetic pickups, I get spoiled by that extra clarity. Now, I've been mostly a Fender guy for 45+ years, but for the last 10 I've been putting the Gretschs to good use. Currently I have an orange 6120, the first year they started making them in Japan, and an orange 6120 Western with Dynasonic pickups. Both feature the impeccable Japanese craftsmanship. A few days ago I bought a 2022 players edition jet in champagne sparkle and used it at an outdoor gig. Before I bought it I wondered why it was so expensive but it instantly proved its worth sonically and everyone felt compelled to comment on its appearance. Its got the Tim Shaw pickups, no load tone pot, and a treble bleed master volume. Playing a Gretsch is a cool way to stand out from the crowd and man, for those pedal steel ripping country licks the bridge pickup excels! Your guitar is very unique and has ALL the tones, and red always looks amazing against a black shirt! Congratulations to your wife for that gift and I probably don't have to tell you to never sell it ❤️
In the last few years I've really been into Gretsch guitars. They give a sound that's somewhere between a hot Tele and a PAF Les Paul. Really flexible. It doesn't get murky when pushed but the pickups are quiet, unlike a Tele.
Thanks for the great walk thru! Lovely guitar, cool playing. Really impressed with all the tonal variety this one offers and then suddenly that Piezo! Wow.
Riggs that is a Beautiful Gretsch and it sounds every bit as good as it looks! Definitely a keeper for sure, gotta love Gretsch guitars, I have two. Nice playing by the way too! A G5220 in Casino Gold w/the Broadtrons and I recently treated myself to a beautiful Japanese made G6129T-59 VS Silver Jet w/Filtertrons, outstanding guitar! The cheaper G5220 is no slouch either
lovely chord riff!, I did a set up on my buddy's Jet EE, fell in love w/ it and ended up keeping it for a week. haha, took me a couple years to find the right one, but I now have a green jet EE. They just play like butter, and really are versatile! Thx for the post, just subscribed
Currently own a Gretsch 6120 and a Gretsch 6136 Falcon. Getting a 6134 Penguin which is a Jet with Falcon style and hardware..... All Gretsches of the "Professional Series" are fantastic guitars.....excellent video !
A bit off topic, but *damn!!* That intro music was *amazing!!* Big fan of the Rhodes, and it blends superbly with this guitar. Almost had a Quincy Jones vibe to it. I'd love to hear the whole thing.
The bridge is different than on a regular Gretsch. It looks like an Elliot Easton signature Gretsch. Elliot Easton is written on the pickguard. The bridge is all metal like on a Gibson.
You got me thinking. I'm gonna try that mud switch for jazz. As much as they sound great, they look even cooler. Probably the sexiest guitar in my arsenal. I have a Japanese made black jet.
I LOVE the mud switch for jazz. Way easier than rolling off the tone knob, especially if it’s just for the intro of a song before going into a bigger section that requires a fuller sound.
@@RiggsTaylorI have a 6128-59 (also in Firebird Red) and I use all three positions of the mud switch on a one of the songs the band I'm in does. It's a version of Astatic Stomp by George 'Harmonica' Smith that goes into a great song called 36-24-38 by Steve 'West' Weston, and I use the most rolled off setting for Astatic Stomp with a bit of drive to replicate the tone guitars had in the 50's on tracks like that (and My Babe by Little Walter etc), then to the second setting for 36-24-38, flicking it to the centre 'straight through' setting for my solo, all on the neck pickup. It's a really useful switch!
I love the look and feel of these guitars but find the low output pickups a hassle, if i swap out from something like a les paul or strat in a live situation there's a drastic change in volume, it needs completely different amp settings.
Interesting! These don’t seem to be particularly low output. The EQ is obviously brighter than traditional humbuckers, but it’s definitely not lower output than my strat.
@@RiggsTaylor I had the pro jet double cut which was lovely as a stand-alone guitar but had roughly a third less overall volume than my Std Strat, noticeably quieter.. I tried a similarly equipped pro jet just in case mine was at fault.. It was just the same.. still a great guitar!
Fantastic playing, appreciate the time you took to make the video. Not a big fan of these newer gretches. To me they cheapen out on the electronics and hardware. The version of the filtertron on this line of guitars is decent, but not great. By comparison, the Reverend with their version of these pickups called the retroblast, seems to have better Dynamics, and with their bass contour knob, more diverse sound. Also top notch Korean electronics, roller bridge and locking tuners. I supposed to most important thing is what sounds good to you, and the feel of the instrument. The reason why we had purchased the gretch originally was the look and feel. As time has gone on, a very big disappointment in the hardware and electronics.
TV Jones are just fabulous in a Jet and Up grading wiring harness and pots/ switches is not a Big deal … curiois what Year , Price range and where was It Made ?
Because Malcolm Young of AC/DC played a Gretch, it established Gretch guitars as a solid Rock n Roll instrument. No further justification is needed more than the intro guitar on “ Hell’s Bells” .
Yeah it’s the Elliot Easton! Has been discontinued for some time, but I see the green and black models around from time to time. The piezo was a mod by the previous owner.
I really prefer the original Jet design personally. The "players" style with the lower neck set (and a damn Bigsby with a tension bar... yuk) just feels like a variation of a Les Paul. The character of the original Jet just wasn't there for me. I may have got a dud of a guitar, but I really disliked it.
This one definitely doesn’t have a Les Paul vibe when it comes to tone/how I utilize it. The “mud” switch is super helpful, pickups are way lower output (which I’ll probably swap), and overall a very different guitar aside from the single cutaway. But that’s just my experience with this one.

The End.
This probably needs some more context but your comment about the Edge reminded me of this classic sketch. Dw mate, the Edge is fine 🕶 ruclips.net/video/ew4wrtl01PA/видео.html

Yeah, they’re super cool guitars! Really want to get one with dynasonics to try out.
your wife got you that . thats wife of the year !
Agreed! She did well!
Thanks for the great walk thru! Lovely guitar, cool playing. Really impressed with all the tonal variety this one offers and then suddenly that Piezo! Wow.

Same here !!!.... ditto....
6120 RHH, '59 LTD 6136 2018, and yes to the Penguin.......
I definitely want a Duo Jet of some kind.
They are sweet guitars!
Excellent chord vibrato technique man!

It is an Elliot Easton 😉
Really nice review. Thanks!
Thank you! Be sure to subscribe for more 🤘🏻
Love my Gretsch jet and rancher. Awesome guitars.
Awesome guitars! Hope to get another someday
My god that sounds incredible. Which pickups are in that model (didn’t hear you mention it).
They’re stock filtertrons! I don’t think they’re anything special for this model, but they’re cool pickups!
@@RiggsTaylor nice! Wasn’t sure if they were the powertrons or whatever they’re called. But these sound lovely. Saving up for one at the moment!
The intro was awesome
Thanks man!

Riggs I love your guitar 🎸 I love gretsch guitar
It’s a good one!
If you buy a Gretsch with real Filtertron Pickups you will end up buying another Gretsch! They are very addictive!
I want another already! Haha
So so true !!
Sounds like a real amp, were you playing this through your kemper?
This was the Suhr Badger 18!

Definitely one of the first guys to solidify them as a “rock” guitar - would love to have a double cut Jet some day.
So sick dude!
Thanks man! It’s a good one 🤘🏻
This is NOT a standard Jet. This is an highly modded Jet that hounds fantastic.
Yeah, Elliot Easton had some cool tweaks, and the added piezo is wild!
How can i find this exact model? Is it a 6128? So the piezo is a mod?

Thanks! Stock Gretsch filtertrons.
