I was gonna say, if all you saw was seasons 3-5 years ago once, I guarantee you remember less than you think. Not that my memory is a steel trap, but I still forget details and I've seen both shows several times.
The look on Angel's face as Lorne describes his home is very telling. He longs for a simple place without the complicated moral decisions and messy emotions that make his life so difficult.
Even with you remembering things from season 3 onward I think the reactions are still worth watching as now you'll have the show recontextualized and it will feel different.
im happy you still decided to continue even tho you already watched season 3-4 and 5 ,i mean a second rewatch is fun to witness because you do see things or notice things you havent the first time ,i mean that's what hapend to me when watching Buffy and Angel for the second time.
I definitely feel like the context of Buffy, and Seasons 1-2 of Angel will make the rest of Angel interesting. Crossovers, Cordelia and Wesley's history, the history of the outlier characters, Drusilla, Darla, Lindsay, Lilah, Spike etc. will have a lot more context.
I think I saw somewhere that the showrunners had been told mid_season by the network that they'd gotten too inaccessible to new viewer. So they wrapped up the Darla/W&H stories early and sort of expanded this story line.
As someone who didn't watch Buffy until season 7 and Angel in season 4, and then haphazardly syndicated reruns of both shows, everything hits different and better when you watch all of it in order from the beginning. I enjoyed the shows very much the way I saw them, but everything just comes together amazingly, the characters stand out more because you know them a lot better, and it's easier to notice important details and subtleties in performances, plot, and lore. Even after Angel aired its final episode, filling up my old DVD changer with discs from both shows to properly enjoy this universe in order is an experience I only got to have once.
I've really enjoyed going through the Buffy-verse with Domi. I'm looking forward to many more episodes with her. But it's going to be hard for her to top, "Parker levels of rage." I don't know why but that just resonates with me. It's going up there with ,"inconceivable" and "as you wish." Good one, Domi!
When you were hoping for Darla at the beginning, I was smiling. But Fred isn't really here yet, this was just tease. Fred is over there, and Cordy is over there too now. What you were remembering might have been episode 20. :)
The first episode of Angel I ever saw was Through the looking glass. Then the next episode I saw was Happy Birthday. Needless to say I thought Angel leaned way more heavily into the fantasy elements. That was back in the early 2000’s and I never watched it again until I started Buffy/Angel in 2015 and became obsessed. I spent a long time wondering why I had a vague memory of Cordy standing in sweats floating in the air while her friends started at her and one of them was a green.
I am so glad you are continuing to react to Angel. It will be so interesting to see your opinion of the show upon second viewing and understanding the history of the characters so much more. Also, you'll get to recontextualize it alongside all the Buffy episodes that are brand new to you! One of my favorite book series is His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. I first read them when I was 12, but only the first 2 books of the trilogy were out. I immediately loved them, especially since the main characters are also 12. Then the 3rd book came out when I was 16 and I decided to reread the first 2, which blew my mind, because the mere 4 years of growing up through puberty completely opened up new perspectives of the story (kind of like going through coming-of-age with the characters), then the 3rd one was also mind-blowing. I read them AGAIN in my 20s and was AGAIN shocked by how much I got from it that seemed brand-new, because 16 was still too young to understand some of the deeper meanings. Storytelling is the best.
I think my first Buffyverse episode was 2x21. I had seen bits and pieces of other Season 2 episodes. My stepdad was watching the show and I was on my computer not paying attention, but 2x21 I think was when I sat down and started watching properly. So I ended up with almost your same viewing order. I finished Angel and then watched all 5 seasons from the start before starting Buffy, so I knew a little more, but it was similar. That's one of the things I've enjoyed about your reactions is that you're one of the only reactors who almost recreates my experience. And I look forward to seeing you get to later Angel events with full context and understanding of them.
I like that we are getting a reaction of someone who has already experienced the show from this point forward, as it gives a unique perspective compared to all other Buffyverse reactors. Plus, it puts both you as a reactor, domi, and us as viewers on roughly equal footing in terms of analyzing the plot and characters, as most of us fans have seen the series multiple times (though I know you are much further ahead, editing wise). Idk, I just think you having endgame Angel knowledge makes your reactions somewhat fresh compared to many other Buffyverse reactors, and that's cool.
t was great that the show took a weird turn here going to the other world of Pylea. Lorne's back story and his escape to the nightclubs of L.A are a great little twist. This episode sets us up for some great comedy moments and action in the closing episodes of the Season.
IT'S FRED TIMEEEEE!!!

Lorne singing "the Devil's on his way!" Moments later, a demon pops through a portal...

The moment people realize this was more than just a monster-of the-week. Was it when it dealt with Lorne's backstory or when Cordelia disappeared?

Poor Cordy! All alone and no malls or donuts in sight.

Loved the Queen of Angel bit you put at the end lol.
It's too bad that you omitted stingy Angel's line, "They're gonna take that off the bill, right?"

19:22 "God bless my shitty memory" 😂😂😂😂
Where did the Amy Acker fandom begin? Have you seen Person of Interest?
It started in the next episode. People who watched Person of Interest but not Angel were just late.
FRED!!!

It's very "Princess Bride".
A world without shrimp!
❤🧡💛💚💙💜
1:31 7 episode stretch of Angel? Why? 4 I could see… the rest of this season and the season premiere. That would make sense.
Comfy Domi.
She's watching the order of the episodes WRONG lol
Maybe the director and Parker were related. Both horrible characters.
