Hey man- I wanted to let you know that your video saved me some frustration, time and money. I went with a Direct Action Ruck. I ordered their MKII Dragon Egg in Flecktarn. Thnx for checking on the mess tin fit for me. That was the decision maker on this one. As much as I was pulled to the Bergen I just didn't think it was what I needed for Alaska, and being alone with the kit compliment it requires. I'm sure it will serve you well though.. Keep on keeping on, man. You're a credit to the cause.!
Glad I could help man! That's why I made the video to help others make a decision. A buddy of mine has one of the direct action rucks actually and the quality seems excellent, he loves his. Hopefully you enjoy it!
Helikon and DA are pretty much the same company so Im sure it will fit the bill fine. I have the utmost confidence I made a good choice seeing I have so much experience with Helikon kit. Did loads of research before pulling the trigger as well.. Anyhow Ive harassed you enough on this video. Ill leave it there. Talk to you soon, man.. @@swampdweller1566
Thanks for the review. I have had a modified medium Alice pack for many years (plastic buckles and aluminum cross bars for frame), this looks like a nice replacement for those that like that type of pack.
I think the only itch that ruck may give you is maybe its color at some point. Ive had my two Helikon text rucks for about 4 or 5 years now and they serve me well with a few minor mods.. In all weathers and season, nothing has broken on them or failed. You know I use my shyt. They have years of life left in them. I think you'll get the same from yours. Anyhow, you answered a few Qs I had about this ruck. You're bigger than me so I'm sure this will suit me just fine judging by the short clip you showed...Its actually what I really wanted to begin with but they didnt make these back then. . Im gonna get one in Rhodesian.
Seeing you use your helikon stuff encouraged me to try them. I'm glad the video helped. I think you'll like the pack I will say the design of the pack layout is exactly what iv always wanted in the size iv wanted. Reminds me of old school packs from back in the day. Oh and I still wish I had the Rhodesian camo lol
Man, I'm surprised you didnt get a camo'ed one- Especially a tiger camo one like we talked about a while ago with Tiger just being horizontal tree camo.... Maybe if you use a werewolf type camcon suit like mine you could drape it on the outside to help break it up..@@swampdweller1566
Looks like a fine scout pack. Helikon makes some good stuff, I bought there gaiters the other day. Also just by the looks of it it would ride fine with typical belt kit
good review thanks. I have one of these and like it a lot. I kept the waist belt on and fitted a Helikon-tex belt comforter to it which has worked well as I am not running a chest rig or anything. my only con would be that I wished it was made out of heavier material like the old style camelbaks but this a personal gripe because of all the spikey bushes where I come from. cheers stu
I really like the look of this pack, some great features and well made. I just wish they made it slightly bigger, maybe a 30L main compartment. I know about the Matilda, but I prefer the design/layout of this one.
17 liters compared to my Helikon EDC thats 21 liters... However, Im giving the ergonomics and convenience factor to the Bergen just by looking at it. I can tell its far more practical than my EDC Helikon rucks. They didn't put enough MOLLE webbing on the EDC to make it easier on the user to sort and organize.. Id rather have had more MOLLE webbing then that huge velcro field that takes up half of the face of the EDC ruck.. A bar or 2 of more MOLLE webbing on the sides would have helped too.
