#1972GibsonStandardSG #FactoryWiggleStick 1) Children of the Grave/Sabbath 🤘🏻 2) No more Mr Nice Guy/Alice Cooper (Megadeth) 3) Joker and Thief / Wolf Mother not a bad Straturday at all. hi Mark & Jen 🎥🎸
Norm should do a whole episode of all the famous people that have stopped by and played......not just stood around and said hello....but actually played. That could even make a great movie.Mark....you are the man.
When Mark first started playing...I was thinking no f'ing way is he gonna play....no way is he gonna....no way....then he did...Children of the Grave....yeah! Love it. Rock On!
Mark really enjoyed my visit with you Norm and that fella with beard and funny accent. thank you for your time. you also shared you had done some USO shows. from all my fellow troops .....a heartfelt thank you
SG!!! Saturday Guitar! Love it! Listen to those T-Tops growl! You can say what you want, but there are some T-Tops out there that just sound KILLER, like the ones on my '75 LP Custom.
Hey Mak and Jen! December 5th is my birthday and I absolutely love teles. I follow you guys on all platforms and i look forward to guitar of the day popping up in my feed. If you guys could wish me a happy birthday it would mean the world, thanks guys keep up the great work!
What a way to end the week my favorite guitar and my favorite band on the same day. Thanks Mark ! Even though i have to be honest my SG is an Eppi but i love SGs and Mark i think you was having fun with it today.
The bridge on these guitars til about 1975 were referred to as the Schaller Harmonica Bridge because it resembles a harmonica. Schaller made them for Gibson in the 70's.
Another great guitar of the day, no sweat about not getting around to any Metallica or Van Halen, still loved it and was a great way to end my birthday!!
I am almost sure this guitar Mark showed was actually a 1974-1975 (not 72) because of the unbound ebony fretboard. These were only available thos 2 years
The last guitar I bought was like the Strat to the right of his head at the end from our view, midnight wine, black pickguard, white pickups and maple neck. It's been there for awhile. I got mine like that cheap and to my eye it's a knockout, it's different. With all the videos that come out of your shop have someone do odd stuff. It doesn't have to be songs, just tones. (I know this will fall on deaf ears, excuse me).
Hey Mark, a great sounding Gibson SG standard. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think the standards came with unbound ebony fretboards until 1974. Great channel as always. Keep up the good work.
I got it from 'John Bulli's Guitar History Volume 2 - Gibson SG' (unbound ebony limited edition only 74/75). I've got what I thought was a 74 sg with late 73 pots (serial number too faint to read). I guess the book got it wrong.
+sunbrst62 My '72 ES 345 has those pickups and they are not Gibson embossed even though some references say that vintage has them. I checked all the important numbers and mine is from early '72.
sunbrst62 . There was a redesign in late 72, probably when the embossed pick-up covers went, and 60s style pickguard came back. But the book I quoted seems to suggest the unbound ebony fretboard wasn't offered until 74.

G’day from Australia Mark and Jen awesome video and I adore the show. My 20th Birthday is this coming Tele Tuesday and I’m a Tele player myself! I’d love a shout out if it’s ok it’d totally make my day. All the best :)
Hi Mark I'm an avid watcher of guitar of the day. Next time you demo an SG, do it in style please........ Polish up on your Who songs and do the SG justice with some of the 1969/1970 Woodstock/Isle of Wight festival versions of Tommy....Something like Overture or Sparks, Go To The Mirror, See Me Feel Me/Listening To You....I think those gigs were the Who's best performances of Tommy. I enjoy watching your playing and I think it's THE way to showcase your SG's from that era. Thanks mate 👍
I have one exactly like this, but the serial number indicates it is 1967 or 1969, without Made in USA behind the headstock and the pots are from 1973 and it looks like this one. I have no idea how it happened. The guitar has been with me since 1988 and is absolutely fantastic. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I am almost sure this guitar Mark showed was actually a 1974-1975 (not 72) because of the unbound ebony fretboard. These were only available thos 2 years
I LOVE IT, A BROWN SG! HAPPY FREAKIN' SGATURDAY EVERYONE. I CAN ONLY PRONOUNCE SGATURDAY WITH THE NUMBER OF TEETH CARLOS HAS LEFT, HEEY. #ALLCAPSFORCARLOS #SEEWHATIDIDTHERE.
Can we see an explorer? Preferably a White 1984 model, I always thought those were cool because they had no pickguard and a better control setup in my opinion.
Some of the early ‘70s ones (after Gibson dropped the Deluxe model and revived the Standard) lack binding. Same with the earliest ‘70s SG Specials with mini-humbuckers.
Only the '72 Standard's, which they started building in August of '72, and started shipping in the first week of September. By January of '73, they once again included bound necks.
To my knowledge this guitar Mark showed was actually a 1974-1975 (not 72) because of the unbound ebony fretboard. These were only available thos 2 years
Hey mark and Jen, I know you probably won’t read this but I had my first proper gig and went pretty bad, got any advice? PS: if you can play some Rory gallagher, would be greatly appreciated!
It looks exactly like my first real as in name brand guitar that I had only it was a '76 and had the Bigsby that didn't work for shit but I didn't care it was a real Gibson!!! Played it through a "one off" 80's wood and wicker Legend 50 watt hybrid.
Looks more like a '75 to me. Looks to be a wider neck and unbound ebony board. If it was a 72 it would have the Gibson Logo on the pickups and have the Les Paul Pickgaurd and half moon control plate (except with like 50 exceptions at the end of the year). Also, everythingsg.com is a great website 😁

Hey could you wish Morgan a happy birthday on the 12th? I've been a long watcher (this is my first time commenting), but I just would love to now get her in on it by starting with a warm GOTD welcome! Thanks!
Again cool playin.. Apt for SG.. Alice Cooper ana Wolfmother Saw Wolfmother play with GnR in Auckland..Did well for warm up band. Suggestion for thumping Thursday.. Why not a bit of Alice Cooper... Gutter Cat??
Mark , You need to google what a real chainsaw case looks like. Then you will see why they call it a chainsaw case.... It looks like a case that you store a chainsaw in... not because it takes a chainsaw to cut threw it... sorry don't mean to correct such a cool azz Brew...

SG!!! Saturday Guitar! Love it! Listen to those T-Tops growl! You can say what you want, but there are some T-Tops out there that just sound KILLER, like the ones on my '75 LP Custom.
Yep, I like ‘em too for more aggressive stuff.
Hey Mak and Jen! December 5th is my birthday and I absolutely love teles. I follow you guys on all platforms and i look forward to guitar of the day popping up in my feed. If you guys could wish me a happy birthday it would mean the world, thanks guys keep up the great work!
I wonder if Frank and or Joe will stop by during the holidays. Great guitar, playing, camera work, and editing. Thanks!
Was hoping for some Cream but it's all good. As always awesome guitar and video
I don't know if it's the guitar, the amp, or the combination but that sounds fucking glorious!!!
Neck Pickup: Children of the Grave - Black Sabbath
Middle Pickup: No More Mr. Nice Guy - Alice Cooper
Bridge Pickup: Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother
What a way to end the week my favorite guitar and my favorite band on the same day. Thanks Mark ! Even though i have to be honest my SG is an Eppi but i love SGs and Mark i think you was having fun with it today.

Happy non-Straturday

Pink Panther Theme - Henry Mancini/Originally Performed by His Orchestra
Roy Clarke thanks I didn't know that
definitely adding these to my playlist lol.
Hey look it's the same tired joke made by unimaginative people under every GOTD video!
Love this show! Cheers from Slovakia!
Love me a 💩 guitar. Also Mark doesn't know what a chainsaw case is HAHA. Thanks guys! Enjoy your weekend!
Christopher Violante I also had a chuckle at that.......... city folk smh.
Prolly a safe bet that he's never used one before haha
JJ's Reversals don't need to run a chainsaw when you have chops like Mark tho!!
Christopher Violante heard that!! Mark can PLAY
I think he was prolly joking about the case. He is from the midwest
Oh that's nice. I've been wanting an SG for a long time.

Thank you for the Sabbath Mark!
I saw Joe Bonamassa last night at Verizon arena in Little Rock AR. He put on a great show. 2 hours of great guitar playing!!
Black Sabbath, man! Waiting for a black SG.
Greetings from Brazil
Didn't the 72's have the weird too mounted plate for the controls and a raised scratch plate? I am confused.
I am almost sure this guitar Mark showed was actually a 1974-1975 (not 72) because of the unbound ebony fretboard. These were only available thos 2 years
Instant sub for the Wolfmother love. Keep it up guys. I hope to visit the shop some day soon :D
Small box saturday.... I could go for one of those tonight.... :P
This is one of the best sounding guitars I've heard on GOTD yet.
+theeleven42 Not even close.
Same bridge as '73 L5S. They're rare. It would be fab to see/hear one of those sometime.
harmonica bridge

Thanks for including some Alice/Buxton
A rocking guitar
nice playing. Thank you
Didn't realize how interesting and dynamic that Alice Cooper song was until seeing Mark play it.
Love the walnut and ebony, not the average SG by any means Mr. Agnesi.
Very cool thinline jewel
can you do a Rickenbacker mark!
SWEET SG. wish I could afford it
Hey Mark, a great sounding Gibson SG standard. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think the standards came with unbound ebony fretboards until 1974.
Great channel as always. Keep up the good work.
Jason Ninnis Nope I own this exact guitar bought used in '73. No binding on mine either.
I got it from 'John Bulli's Guitar History Volume 2 - Gibson SG' (unbound ebony limited edition only 74/75).
I've got what I thought was a 74 sg with late 73 pots (serial number too faint to read). I guess the book got it wrong.
Jason Ninnis no I believe it is right. The '72 had embossed pu covers. Looks like at the earliest a very very late '72 or '73.
+sunbrst62 My '72 ES 345 has those pickups and they are not Gibson
embossed even though some references say that vintage has them. I
checked all the important numbers and mine is from early '72.

Hey Mark how about an L6S I’m so sorry I sold mine, gigs with that Guitar were a trip , that varitone!
Did Mark catch Anderton's Sounds Like this week? They did the same Wolf Mother song
Is that a Guitar Center pick? Awesome SG (and Friedman) though...
Cool. Thanks for sharing.
Nice one. Love it when you play an Australian artist. Going to send the link to Andrew, I reckon he'd get a kick out of this.
Sweet sound on that SG!
Love me that SG. That's not why it's called a chain saw case.
You can tell he's never owned a chain saw. Great tunes love the crunch.
Love sabbath and WM.... Do a V please

Headstock and body never meet but we know what u meant, Mark.
@normansrareguitars you guys need to have Dweezil Zappa play or buy this guitar.

Is the neck on yours unbound like this one? Or does it have binding on it like?
Way to rock it out Mark!
Two teles this week to make up for no strat? I’ll accept that! Plus that SG IS KILLER!
Solid Guitar Saturday Forever - Pleeeeease - Byeeeee !
I thought the 1972 SG's had the script logo on the pickups and the plate around the controls?!?
I thought the same thing.
I am almost sure this guitar Mark showed was actually a 1974-1975 (not 72) because of the unbound ebony fretboard. These were only available thos 2 years

Where did he go?
Hey mark and Jen, I know you probably won’t read this but I had my first proper gig and went pretty bad, got any advice? PS: if you can play some Rory gallagher, would be greatly appreciated!

Finally, I was so confused. I have a 74-75 unbound ebony freatboard SG and I known they were only made those 2 years.
I have the same guitar but i looked up the serial number at 1979. Did they make this on 1979?
I am almost sure this guitar Mark showed was actually a 1974-1975 (not 72) because of the unbound ebony fretboard. These were only available thos 2 years
You still need to do a Vox Starstream on Weird-ass Wednesday
How about doing some weird guitars like Rickenbacker 480 or Gibson L6S or Fender Lead ll .
Finally,using a friedmam,an amp worthy of a gibson SG,or Lespaul,thanks Mark
Finally some Sabbath on an SG! lml And ACB! lml Good shtuff!
Anyone else save the Walnut guitars for a bathroom break?
Hey could you wish Morgan a happy birthday on the 12th? I've been a long watcher (this is my first time commenting), but I just would love to now get her in on it by starting with a warm GOTD welcome! Thanks!
I can dig it.
Mr.Stranger DUG.
Is that a new amplifier or a new microphone? Sounds really fucking crispy.
More les Paul standard and flying v please 😊
When are you gonna do a Maccaferri?
ah the old "harmonica" bridge!
Probably also called a chainsaw case, because chainsaws have cases like that.
Again cool playin..
Apt for SG..
Alice Cooper ana Wolfmother
Saw Wolfmother play with GnR in Auckland..Did well for warm up band.
Suggestion for thumping Thursday..
Why not a bit of Alice Cooper...
Gutter Cat??
This can’t be a ‘72! Gotta be a at least a 1974 because of the wide pickup spacing right?! Correct me if I’m wrong. 🤷🏻♀️
You’re right!
Do you think you guys will EVER properly mic the cab?
Mark , You need to google what a real chainsaw case looks like. Then you will see why they call it a chainsaw case.... It looks like a case that you store a chainsaw in... not because it takes a chainsaw to cut threw it... sorry don't mean to correct such a cool azz Brew...
Exacty
I've got the 1972 bing cherry Deluxe. Pretty sure that bridge (and probably the case) isn’t original. Love mine! Such a cool guitar.
Why don't you do sgs
That bridge! Looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down
But it intonates great with whatever strings you put on. Tons of adjustment latitude. I love that bridge myself.
I'm sure it works great, but compared to an ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic it looks all wrong on an SG to me
They call it the harmonica bridge
How about that background music 👌
Children Of The Grave.....NICE!
Finally some Sabbath, love these videos tho
