My brother Matt and one of his best friends, Mark, used to go to Randy's house and get guitar lessons for Mark and drum lessons for Matt, back in the Quiet Riot days. They were there constantly, even when not getting lessons. Matt told me many times that I need to get over there and watch Randy play "just for fun" as it was incredible. I never did get to meet him, but followed Quiet Riot and then, of course, Randy joining Ozzy, who I had been a fan of since Black Sabbaths first album. Matt and I were thrilled that Randy was with Ozzy, and we awaited each new album with great excitement. Every time Randy was in town, Matt would go over and hang out and listen to Randy tell stories from the studio and the road. My little brother became such a fixture in the Rhoads's house over the years, that when Randy died, his mom invited him to the funeral. I was devastated, but Matt was completely destroyed. He so looked up to Randy as a friend who always had time for him, this 14 year old kid. His talent was on the rise, and he is gone way too soon.

Also the bass player show here, Rudy Sarzo, was with Randy in Quiet Riot. Ozzie hired Rudy on Randy's recommendation. When they were with Quiet Riot, Randy talked his mother into hiring Rudy to teach bass at her music school. The two were close friends, Rudy went on to his own fame and fortune later joining Blue Oyster Cult, White Snake and others.

This has to be the COOLEST most melodic 3 part metal guitar solo ever played - and its live! And Randy is so relaxed he has time to sneak in a quick coffee half way through if he wished. Ozzy's voice is truly gorgeous in this song, especially in the middle melodic section. One of Ozzy's greatest ever performances - no doubt having Randy as axe man upped his game no end.

Some interesting things about that video shoot:
    1) It was filmed early in the morning (which the band wasn't used to doing)
    2) The band thought that they were going to be lip synching...but when they got to the television studio, they were told that it was going to be done live (which they weren't prepared for)
    3) It was done live without the use of monitors (they basically couldn't hear each other)
All of that and it still came out great.

I'm not a subscriber and I rarely post, but Randall William Rhoads is one of my favorites musicians. Rich, so broken to know about the loss of your son Jared. To me, the simple fact that he embraced musical culture so deeply, makes him a superstar in my estimation, even though we never knew of each other's existence. I cannot compare the loss of a child, but I did lose my best friend while we were serving together. Jared is looking down, flying V in hand and smiling, knowing that you and Kel continue to press the message of love and music forward. Take care brother.

A crazy thing is that according to Rudy Sarzo Randy had planned to leave rock music after the Ozzy tour he died on. He was going to devote himself to his classical playing. It was a part of Randy Rhodes lore that whatever city Ozzy played in Randy would book a guitar lesson with a local classical guitarist to develop his skills in that genre.

She died in nebraska, alone with only our 4 year old son in her company(her mother was at work) while visiting her family while i stayed here in Reno to work until christmas. She was 23. Well, i didnt make it to Omaha in time, and i never got to say goodbye or kiss her one last time. I was 1,247 miles away when she passed. And all i can listen to was this song as i crossed each state line hoping it was just a cruel joke. This song took on such a beautifully cruel meaning during that lonely, terrifying drive

Saw Ozzy in early 82. Effin awesome show. Festival seating so you stood where you could. I got to about 15 feet of the stage when the show started. House lights down, single spotlight on the stage. Obligitory smoke/dry ice rolling off the stage. Coffin stood up right in the spotlight and out popped Ozzy. One of the cooler entrances I've ever seen. The music rocked too!

That sounds like an awesome entrance! The best entrance I'd ever seen was Rob Zombie. I was a little further, about 50 feet, but still that's pretty close. Satan was up there on stage looking back and forth at everyone, then in a puff of smoke, it was Rob Zombie. As close as I was, I never saw the change. It was amazing.

Randy and Eddie battled it out for real on the Los Angele music scene, each in a house band (Quiet Riot and Van Halen) playing in clubs only a couple blocks apart. Randy and Eddie were classically trained from childhood, both by their mothers. Eddie and his brother Alex both won classical piano competitions as preteens.

Again I'm sorry for your loss, and love the fact that you have his guitar and have even named it after him in his honor, 😍 it... Having said that, I've 💖'd been a huge fan of Randy Rhodes and at 35 yo, I have always wanted to and often told myself that one day I'll learn how to play guitar, Well that day has arrived, and last month I just picked up a new Jackson JS32 Randy Rhoads signature series (Ivory) V, after I decided that if I'm Ever going to learn to shred I had better get with it 😁 I mean I am brand new at guitar but dedicated/motivated and though I might not be able to "Shred" per say quite yet, I can and will say that in a months time, I have progressed way further than I ever thought that I could have at this point, but the best part is, I'm already reaping the benefits, mentally, spiritually, in ways that I couldn't even imagine or explain as I'm writing this... I shouldn't have waited so long, let that be a lesson to anyone out there who can relate, get yourself a guitar, doesn't have to be anything special, and if you looked online (Amazon) you just might be suprised of the affordability of a quality guitar...🙄😒😞🤷‍♂️😁🎸🤘✌

This seems to be the only live video of Randy playing with Ozzy.
Back in the '70s and '80s apparently nobody cared about cameras at shows. So there were dudes just going to shows with those shoulder-mounted cameras and filming them. There's some amazing stuff out there from these hobbyists. I always hoped that one day someone would unearth a lost video tape of a Randy-era Ozzy concert. So far it hasn't happened.

Never got to see Randy Rhoads unfortunately. But in the 70's I saw the original Black Sabbath lineup with Ozzy along with Blue Oyster Cult. It was the Black-and-Blue tour.

I read a lot about Aleister Crowley (1875 - 1947) back in the early '80s, an interesting guy to say the least. He was an occultist, poet, writer, prophet and so on. He received mystical teaching which he transcribed over a period of 3 days. I read his book "Diary of a Drug Fiend" on how he kicked heroin addiction. Really strange character.

I still GET *Goosebumps* 40 years later as it was my very 1st concert Feb 1982 Riverfront Coliseum Cincinnati Ohio. I've seen 1000+ Concerts since and I've never seen anyone as Great on Guitar since. LOL I'm not kidding at all I'm serious. Randy is in Heaven giving Jimi Hendrix lessons. My dayseen him at riverfront Coliseum Cincinnati Ohio open up for the Monkees. Let me tell YOU He's A#1 The Duke on Guitar. People who think he's not #1 I want them to play The *King Biscuit Flower Hour 1981 Randy's Best Work to this Date. Also people don't know he invented the Jackson Guitar along with Grover Jackson and was so Modest he didn't want absolutely anything or credit for this Feat.

My dad seen Jimi Hendrix open up for the Monkees. Also let me add that the Tribute album I bought in 1982 and it was called *Bats Head Soup* and was the only $20 album sold at the entire humongous Record Expo' s all year

When Ozzy was auditioning guitarists Randy was the last one of the day and Ozzy said as Randy came in he was a skinny kid with long finger nails and as he was warming up Ozzy knew that he found his guitar player
