Terrence Malick - The Works

  • No one makes films quite like Terrence Malick. Although he has only made five films in the past four decades, he deserves to be labeled as an iconic American filmmaker. All of his works share the stunning visuals, powerful themes and dramatic realism required to make a masterful piece of film. Some label Malick's films as pretentious but I see them as the unique expressions of a true artist. With this tribute, I really wanted to display Malick's artistic talent and why his films are truly unique and special.
    As for my next tribute, it will be a while before it is released since I will be so busy over the coming months.
    However I will still leave you with a clue: Droog

      OzKardozi No Malick film has been as loved as the ones he made before his hiatus. One could argue that his later films are more indulgent in pacing and less clear on plots but so is David Lynch's work and none of it is as hated as Malicks.

    • @seamac206
      @seamac206 9 лет назад +1

      OzKardozi "How can you love Days of Heaven and not love Tree of Life?"
      Heaven is almost an hour shorter than Life, with a much clearer plot in comparison. In fact, Malick since his return, more specifically since the new millennium, has relied much more on utilizing body language to tell a story and hasn't made a film under 2 hours.
      So to recap, longer lengths + less clear and more complex plots + impatient population = the general consensus that he went senile during his hiatus. This is horrifically untrue, and is another reason why the mainstreams opinions on high art are generally irrelevant.

    • @MrAkashvj96
      @MrAkashvj96 9 лет назад

      OzKardozi Tree of Life gets a bit too overtly devout in the 3rd Act (especially towards the end). I guess it may strike a chord with religious people but personally I thought it got a bit preachy towards the end. Still a great film though. I too prefer Days of Heaven because it's more coherent and just as beautiful. I think Days of Heaven, Thin Red Line and the New World are Malick's best films.

      +Nameless Paladin Honestly, I think that Badlands is a much better film than The New World. I mean there a lot of great things about the film, but to me the film was unnecessarily dragged out in some parts. To me, Malick's best films are Badlands, Days of Heaven and Thin Red Line

    One critic said about The Tree of Life (roughly paraphrased), "He is the anti-Michael Bay of filmmaking. Whatever you may think of his films, he puts it up there onscreen and says, 'This is what I believe.' And God Bless him for that."

    Kubrick Came a lot earlier and created a greater number of master pieces, He started in 1951, and he directed his first movie in 1955.
    But Malick entered the business about 19 years after that, in 1969.
    And when Stanley released his final film in 1999, Malick wasn't even half way through his career.
