What's the best advice you received to improve your tone, and who shared it with you?

I actually improved my tone by articulating very slowly with my air (no tongue) whilst using a double lip embouchure.

Air speed and not trying to get too much or too little volume through at once, allowing back pressure to affect my mouth Shape and alter the sound. It all has to be balanced. I try and imagine keeping the air going forward right from the bottom of my lungs to the other end if the instrument otherwise I feel like all the air is building up in my neck and it all sounds awful.

I was told to think of the air stream like a loaf of french bread that's expanding from the inside of the instrument and out the tone holes. Very weird idea... but works great!

I improved my tone by putting my metronome at 75 and played any scale, but each note would have 4 beats crescendo and 4 beats decrescendo, not breathing until every 8 notes. This technique improved my tone significantly and at the same time allowed me to perform longer without needing to take a breath.

You said to keep playing until you improve your sound, but what exactly do you do to improve the tone? What if the pitch is wavering? What if it sounds like a dying cow? What if its fuzzy or airy?

For pitch and evenness I use the TE Tuner app. If the sound is fuzzy or airy, to me it helps to use a thinner reed or use an “easy to play” reed like for example the Rico Orange Box reed.
