Here's mine: Do not alter the way you drive, when you're near a semi. Most people are scared of driving near a semi so they suddenly speed up, slow down, change lanes, or otherwise drive unpredictably. Being unpredictable is what makes driving near a semi dangerous. Remember: the average semi driver will have much, much more experience on the road than the average non commercial driver.
My personal biggest rule around any large vehicle is make sure they can see you. Sitting in a blind spot of a semi for any length of time is really not a smart move.
@@hopscotch30 a semi is an 18 wheeler or very large truck. Funnily enough l thought they were divided loads like b-doubles but seems they aren't they only need one large trailer

When the car is travalling fast down hill, take your foot of the throttle pedal. When the engine is above 1200rpm and the throttle closed the ECU will turn off the supply to the fuel pump until the engine rpm falls back below 1200 rpm or when you put your foot back on the throttle pedal. Thus you can save fuel and stay legal and safe. Also slow down earlier to lessen the need to use brakes, taking your foot of the gas pedal. You will GoD willing reduce fuel consumption.
I'm not car engineer or anything but I think a correct way to explain is that your PCM will tell your fuel injectors not to pulse, thus yes not needing the fuel pump, but your fuel pump will always keep the right fuel pressure, so let's say in the moment that you are going downhill and the ECM tells the injectors to stop firing, well the fuel pump should keep that fuel pressure then the pressure build back up, as if it was a cold start turning they key from accessory to start. Like when you hear that hum before you crank it. the ECM turns off the fuel injectors not the pump itself.
I am not a driver due to a disability issue, but I have been behind the wheel of plenty of go-carts. Same rules should naturally apply. What I am grateful for is being able to master the concept of coasting. Go on an advanced driving course or track session with a professional driver, they may teach you to drive fast, but you will probably drive slower afterwards - because most people then realise they are not as good a driver as they think they are.
If you are always driving fast you may fall into this bad habit when City driving, and it's Dangerous! Fast drivers look further up the road due to the fast speed, therefore you have to be careful you don't do this in the City. You will go right through the red light that is closer to you, but you are looking at the green light the next block up. This has happened to me, and a race driver told me why it happened. This can happen especially if you are approaching a slight hill further up the road. Know this and be safe.
If you are going to coast with your clutch make sure you press the clutch down completely. Pressing the clutch incompletely and coasting over time can damage your clutch.
9 and 3 position is ideal, overlapping of hands is not at all allowed, distraction must be avoided - very good suggestions and of course very safe tips.
I was always driving in 9 and 3 position .. but in the background I switch too 10 and 2 once I realise, as I was told it is recommended , now that I know it is the recommended one I can drive more confident as it is what I am used too 😊👍 thank you for the useful information
never seen a racing driver push pull. I use 4 and 8 these days so if the airbag deploys my hands go down rather than toward my face or the window. It makes little difference to controlling the vehicle at either fast or slow driving.
Since my shoulders are so weak, I normally drive long distances with my hands @ 8 & 4; otherwise, after 15-20 minutes, my arms feel like they're going to FALL OFF!
Yes I’m guilty 🤦🏼♀️ I drive it like i stole it 😂 but thank you very much man it’s very helpful to know all of this some people don’t even know this and some others forget about it ‘ and remember safety first 🙏🏻 ♥️
Lazee Lazee : you probably have better road conditions made for high speed. Also most European cars Are built for speed. If you traveled the highways here at speeds you drive in Europe, you would probably crash and burn or get mucho traffic fines.
Don Holmes i have been to america, and i think the Road is ok. I think it Would be really Important to invent the rule, that you are Not Allowed to overtake on the right side. Then you probably could speed up
@Nick Cassetta 7:49 onward addresses the change between 10 and 2 and 9 and 3. No matter what, even the push/pull method, or any method dealing with the arms crossing over the wheel in any way, is dangerous thanks to air bags.
@@ThunderstruckGames My car doesn't have an Air Bag, so i prefer crossing my hands over on the steering wheel. cuz my hands are softer than the Steering wheel and it can save my life one day.
@@luQi457 If your car doesn't have an air bag in the steering wheel, then it was made before the mid 1990's when they were mandated as a safety feature. That means that the likelihood of either your arms or the steering wheel being shoved into your face at a high velocity is pretty much eliminated unless you hit something that will shove the nearly solid front end into the driver's seat.
@@RevengeOfThaNerd Professional drivers? You mean like WRC, NASCAR, INDYCAR, F1, and so on? All of which do not have air bags, and all of them cross their arms to correct the direction of the car while in the middle of spinning out.
I live in a very small town so the majority of my driving is on highways. I usually set my cruise control to about 3-4 mph over the posted limit in some places and the correct speed the rest of the time and it always amazes me how many cars catch up and pass me. They are mostly doing 10-15 over the limit...sometimes even more. Haven't these people got caught yet? It is a well known highway for fatal accidents so it is well patrolled, but people insist on driving FAST. By the way, you only save a few minutes in a 100 mile journey for every 10 mph you go over the limit. Is it worth it?
Slow drivers are the cause of more vehicle accidents than fast drivers. People get frustrating sitting behind people going less than the speed limit so are far more likely to overtake in places they otherwise wouldn't. Seriously slow drivers shouldn't be allowed to drive, if your not comfortable doing the speed limit then your clearly not a good enough driver to be on the road. As an anecdotal side note, l tend to find slow drivers don't know how to use blinkers properly and take longer to react to everything around them. So yeah if your a slow driver please get out the scissors and cut up your licence,it will make the world a tiny bit better for the rest of us.
@@Jake12220 Frustrated drivers idiotically blame patient and virtuous drivers for their own mistakes. Everybody on the road needs an enormous dose of patience. I know this first hand. There is no excuse for impatience behind the wheel.
Err... actually, pushing and pulling at speed is probably the most ineffective thing you can do. And is actually dangerous. At speed your hands need to react faster and pushing and pulling provides a rotation that's far slower then the crossover method. Hence why race drivers don't push and pull.
Darren Small lol when the speed gets higher you need less momentum on the wheel, only low speed turns need a lot of wheel input. You could send your car straight of the road using your index finger at highway speeds whilst it would be incredibly hard to turn on a parking lot using the same finger and force.. 😂
@@Marc12345679 hmm ok, these say your right on the edge of a low speed turn or you need to take a sharp turn quickly, I'm sure you wouldn't push and pull.
The openings in the steering wheel at the 4 and 8 o’clock positions are meant for use in newer cars equipped with airbags for the very reason that, in an impact, people usually stiffen their arms and brace and if their arms are in the path of the airbag, they will easily get broken. The old “10 and 2” thing is antiquated and dangerous.
Terry Cole. When I learned to drive in the late 1960s, my tutor was an IAM Instructor. (institute of advanced motorists) He taught me to hold the wheel at 8 and 4 o'clock. Obviously no air bags then. I still hold the wheel the way I was taught.
actaully I look at the road ahead but also around me at my mirrors in a sorta system, look ahead if nothing interesting look to side mirrors and rear mirror for a quickl peek repeat as needed. I always watch for steal cops that pull up behind you. lol

I tell people that, due to my ADHD, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to maintain TOTAL FOCUS on the road (unless it's bad weather or rush hour); if I try, I'll end up focusing on 50 different things. So, I INTENTIONALLY divide my attention between the road & something else, (like what’s on the radio or talking, NOT TEXTING, on the phone); that way, I'm focusing on 2 things instead of 50! Also, TOTAL SILENCE makes me VERY NERVOUS, so music helps me relax.
Just leave earlier! Most people’s drives are short and to actually get there faster by speeding makes no sense... Do the math! Picking up a couple minutes isn’t worth it!
In modern cars coasting don't save fuel, becouse it still use it, while when you just release gas pedal it stops to adding fuel to engine. Coasting only worked in older cars without fuel injectors
5:45 “for every ten miles per hour there should be four car lengths of space”. Listen, pal, I drive in Boston. If I leave four car lengths of space in front of me, seven cars are gonna instantly, simultaneously, try and occupy that space 😂😂😂
Since my shoulders are so weak, I normally drive long distances with my hands @ 8 & 4; otherwise, after 15-20 minutes, my arms feel like they're going to FALL OFF!
The biggest issue by far that people have when driving fast is that they don't look far enough ahead. That and following too closely are two ways to help ensure an accident
No.8 You should only ever PULL on the steering wheel, never PUSH - for the following reasons: (i) vehicle steering geometry is designed to return to the central position (ii) steering is infinitely more precise when pulling. Just try it!
@m v m v - 100%. Whilst I am here, I’ll also voice my opinion regarding the distraction of using GPS. The biggest ever distraction for driving has been the placing of GPS and infotainment displays on vehicle dashboards. I wonder how many accidents have occurred when drivers have been momentarily distracted by their use. I surmise we’ll never know. I can’t believe that the authorities still allow it. After all - the driver doesn't have to SEE the screen for GPS - the system gives him verbal information!
Yes, coasting is a dangerous habit. Especially when cornering. But it does not save fuel but actually uses it. In fact is engine breaking the most efficient because it does not use fuel; at least in modern cars.
When going down the road for long, extended periods of time, with no intersections, like going down the highway, I drive with my hands positioned where I'm most comfortable: 5 and 7. Can just rest my arms nice and comfy in my lap, or the arm rests
Since my shoulders are so weak, I normally drive long distances with my hands @ 8 & 4; otherwise, after 15-20 minutes, my arms feel like they're going to FALL OFF!
The coasting is incorrect. Radio on while driving fast, depends on the person. Music helps a lot of people concentrate. Some of this stuff is common sense but a lot of people lack common sense.
I don't care what you say, if it's not an extremely stressful situation (high vehicular and pedestrian traffic in a downtown area, for example), you're not stopping me from turning the radio off when Free Bird comes on. And I listen to a lot of heavy metal when I drive, not jazz.

I was always driving in 9 and 3 position .. but in the background I switch too 10 and 2 once I realise, as I was told it is recommended , now that I know it is the recommended one I can drive more confident as it is what I am used too 😊👍 thank you for the useful information
I might as well just get my driving lessons from you rather then paying for them thanks for this amazing video 👍

never seen a racing driver push pull.
Thank you so much for this video! I didn't know about coasting or loud music meaning less attention.
Yes I’m guilty 🤦🏼♀️ I drive it like i stole it 😂 but thank you very much man it’s very helpful to know all of this some people don’t even know this and some others forget about it ‘ and remember safety first 🙏🏻 ♥️

Driving fast... 75 mph😂 im from Germany i just Laugh about this speed
Lazee Lazee : you probably have better road conditions made for high speed. Also most European cars
Are built for speed. If you traveled the highways here at speeds you drive in Europe, you would probably
crash and burn or get mucho traffic fines.
Don Holmes i have been to america, and i think the Road is ok. I think it Would be really Important to invent the rule, that you are Not Allowed to overtake on the right side. Then you probably could speed up
I'm from India and on highway i normally use 120-140 kmph

@Nick Cassetta 7:49 onward addresses the change between 10 and 2 and 9 and 3. No matter what, even the push/pull method, or any method dealing with the arms crossing over the wheel in any way, is dangerous thanks to air bags.
@@ThunderstruckGames My car doesn't have an Air Bag, so i prefer crossing my hands over on the steering wheel. cuz my hands are softer than the Steering wheel and it can save my life one day.
@@ThunderstruckGames It's more efficient to shuffle steer. Gives you more control over your vehicle. I mean even professional drivers drive this way
@@luQi457 If your car doesn't have an air bag in the steering wheel, then it was made before the mid 1990's when they were mandated as a safety feature.
The #1 problem is slow driving in the passing lane here in Washington. I drive fast whenever possible. At least +9mph always.
I like how this video is like a kids show but thanks for saying it’s ok to speed if you pay extra attention 👍
Is it worth it?
yes
Just drive slower...!!! Relax....😁
Oi you better not of texted this while driving a bus
you can get a speeding ticket by driving slow too
Slow drivers are the cause of more vehicle accidents than fast drivers.
@@Jake12220 yes this is correctly
@@Jake12220 Frustrated drivers idiotically blame patient and virtuous drivers for their own mistakes. Everybody on the road needs an enormous dose of patience. I know this first hand. There is no excuse for impatience behind the wheel.
Err... actually, pushing and pulling at speed is probably the most ineffective thing you can do. And is actually dangerous. At speed your hands need to react faster and pushing and pulling provides a rotation that's far slower then the crossover method. Hence why race drivers don't push and pull.
What race drivers do then?
@@Romanchelli hold the wheel at 9-3 and turn and if they have to cross their arms, they will...
@@darrensmall1133 where have u seen that?
Darren Small lol when the speed gets higher you need less momentum on the wheel, only low speed turns need a lot of wheel input. You could send your car straight of the road using your index finger at highway speeds whilst it would be incredibly hard to turn on a parking lot using the same finger and force.. 😂
@@Marc12345679 hmm ok, these say your right on the edge of a low speed turn or you need to take a sharp turn quickly, I'm sure you wouldn't push and pull.
Love it all of your video. Can i shared ,edit , cut for show my student in my work. Safety Driving .
I use 4 and 8 to easily reach the steering wheel buttons.

Just leave earlier! Most people’s drives are short and to actually get there faster by speeding makes no sense... Do the math! Picking up a couple minutes isn’t worth it!
Most of the people here watch this without driving...like if u are one of them
In modern cars coasting don't save fuel, becouse it still use it, while when you just release gas pedal it stops to adding fuel to engine.
