I haven't heard of any real-time observation of the rates at which these tracks are created. If your reproducibility is good enough could you use a USB microscope to record what is going on? Does it matter if the sooty side faces the spark plugs? Easier to observe if it is facing away.

The time the CD discs remain under the spark plugs is a week.
The shorter the distance, the more likely it is that tracks will appear.
Perhaps a little later other experiments will be planned to observe these processes in real time. But not yet. The reasons are both that other studies are now planned, both financial and technical. The field of view of the microscope at 60x magnification is about 2*3 mm. There is little chance of getting a track in the desired area. Less magnification means little can be seen. Accordingly, a long experiment is required with regular replacement of spark plugs using several chambers.
The discs were not installed with the reverse side. Studies by other scientists using non-soot-coated disks indicate that there will be tracks, but there will be fewer of them. The idea is correct and I have already been told about this. I will use it in future research.
