He dropped out of idol because he recognized most other contestants have been singing all their lives and really wanted to win. He didn't want to compete because he didn't even know if music was what he wanted for his life's work....rather selfless if you ask me.

Benson talks about it on the Zand Sang Show how his friend wanted to do a Battle of the Bands and Benson was in charge of the keyboard, but when their singer quit on them a day before their performance Benson had to do it. Before that he never even tried to be good at singing, so when he actually tried that’s how he figured out that he had a good voice

His story is true. He is from the small town we live in, one high school town. He didn't discover his singing voice until he was to play in a battle of the bands contest with his friend in his senior year in HS. He was just going to play the piano. Singer dropped out and he stepped up to sing, reluctantly. My neighbors daughter graduated with him and had never heard of him singing prior to the battle. He did not realize he had the talent.

So tbf..i never really sang for anyone before i auditioned for a musical. I been rapping and didnt really show my voice until i auditioned. That was when i was 15 or 16..so i kinda see it..If you dont really sing for anyone there is no one to tell you that your good. so after i got excepted and got 1 of the 3 main parts i started singing more.. I did think its alitle bit weird like you did.. But the more iv looked into his story and him... It makes more and more sense actually..

It is possible to be a phenomenal singer without training or experience, that's where the term talented or gifted comes in. Tbh, I've been singing since I was 5, sure I have experience with singing, but no kind of vocal training whatsoever, it started with me just simply imitating the voices of everyone I hear, whether it be Beyonce's voice or my mother's voice, I just imitated and sounded just like them, and while that's not quite the same as Benson's case, I feel as if him and I as well as many other people who can sing really well didn't need any form of professional training, all we needed was to discover what we're capable of and then experiment with it.

You need to react to Jeremiah Harmon on the voice. He is a PK and sings an emotional heartfelt song he wrote himself. It's special. React or not, you have to listen to that for your own sake. It may be the most gorgeous original song ever sung on a singing competition. Most dont allow original works, You have to hear this.

It's truly special. You owe it to yourself to listen and enjoy this song. You respect singers so much you will come back to this video for years.

Some of it is but they do have real contestants. The producers ask them to play up their sob stories and they push certain singers and give the ones they like more air time. It's kinda like american politics. 😆 this year there is some singers

He was into sports and the outdoors. He had four sisters who took piano lessons, so he just picked up piano from watching them. He really never was interested in singing until, in his senior year of high school, a friend asked him if he would play piano for a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition they were having at school. He said he would. One day before the competition, the band’s singer quit, so Benson said he would try to sing so they wouldn’t have to withdraw from the contest, and when the crowd reacted to his voice, a light came on in his head, and the rest is history! 😁😁😁 (They won, by the way!)

the story was not made up. He really didn’t really know how to sing until a year before he auditioned. I’m living proof😂
