    Goldlewis dickinson has been a 'problem' in guilty gear strive for a while now, but personally I don't think he is actually the problem except the game mechanics in which he functions please feel free to deliberate amongst yourselves also like my new haircut and face?

    The problem with Goldlewis Dickinson is that he isn't a charismatic, dashing, zoro-inspired, adoptive father figure to his own pirate crew all while being hated by the God of failure.

    Are you ready for opinions?
    First off, I really like Goldlewis. Maybe it's just fatigue after so many fighting game heavyweights being trash, but having this archetype be good is super refreshing to me. Same applies to Pot and also Nago to an extent (Though Nago is a little to overpowered even for my tastes(
    Objectively speaking, yeah Strive absolutely needs to increase HP by like maybe 20- 30%? Or at least enough to give more interactions per match. And also some general damage nerfs to some characters.
    BUT personally speaking, I'm really scared about this hypothetical change. Going by ArcSys's track record, this would inadvertently screw over some already low-damage characters like Bridget, Faust and Bedman? pretty badly, and they wouldn't be adjusted to compensate.
    I also like guard crush, but that's pure bias on my end as a Bedman? main. But I do think too many of the cast have consistent access to it.

      I keep hearing this. Bedmen are hitting me for 50-60% and people are calling him a low damage character?

      @@dragonic22 Okay, maybe not as bad as the other two, but I think he has weird scaling in a lot of places where he shouldn't. 2H beyblade and chain explosion just do not do enough damage on average (and for added fun, chain explosion does a ludicrous amount of wall damage, so it really messes up some corner combos). One particular example that really made me think this is that in the latest Baccpabrawl tournament, in finals, Bedman player Aegis baited Ky's DP and got a counter hit partial charge 236H. The following combo had multiple hits, another 236H AND ended with a non-wallstick install-boosted bomb error. The combo did roughly 30-35% of his HP (Including the damage from the wall break.)
      Per interaction, he's just generally not doing as much as most other characters. This is already sub-par, but it hits extra hard because Bedman is one of Strives big-body characters. So his poor damage is extra noticeable, ESPECIALLY when he doesn't get any of the strengths of being a big-body, like the high HP pool and super risky/resource reliant neutral skips aside from WWA.
      Also, maybe his higher damage is on your character's end? Who do you play? They might have lower defense modifiers then average.

      @@dragonic22 Ah, yeah, that makes a bit more sense. For reasons beyond me, a character who is supposed to be oriented around defense is way squishier than she should be. I pray for Baiken buffs in the patch next month

    honestly about the point you made earlier about metaslaving on goldlewis, i dont think ive seen a single non-pocket goldlewis player who didnt also play the character pre-s3, although that is most likely just because his top tier status was largely based on wwa and everyone knew that wwa was going to get shot regardless

    goldlewis is my main because i love big man with big attack. but i cant help but feel carried a lot of the time and i have no idea how arcsys should balance him.

    I don't actually care if the game is one sided personally, because the rounds are short enough that it's fine, but I find myself really annoyed by how much of Guilty Gear is spent in pressure. It feels like the vast majority of the game is spent with one of the players in blockstun, and it's the main reason I don't play the game as much anymore. It just makes the game feel so slow and boring. I don't like doing blockstrings and I don't like being forced to block for a long time. Then they added the ability to take away burst from the opponent and that was kinda the final nail for me. Burst was kinda the great equalizer where you could use it offensively if you wanted, but if you ever didn't have burst, it was your own fault. Now with burst being able to be taken away (especially on block) it just kinda defeats what made the mechanic good for me, and it compounds on the feeling of endless pressure in the game.
    Now don't get me wrong. I'm not gonna be one of those dudes who's all crying about there being not enough neutral or whatever. I love Melty Blood, which severely lacks neutral, so I'm totally okay with "neutral skips" or whatever. But if you're gonna end neutral, just put me in a combo so you can do your cool stuff and we can get back to it. I don't wanna sit in blockstun for the whole round. What I like about Melty's shield system is that it skips neutral while still being both cool and fun, and it also solves a lot of other problems at the same time

      @@jamfingers55 I wouldn't say trash. He's just uninformed imo. He tries too hard to appeal to a certain demographic that it loses the whole point of why the video was even made. And the repetitiveness kills me sometimes. I can watch his like slice of life tournament run videos but the fucking opinion ones are too predictable lmao

    I don't think Goldlewis having mix and generally high damage is necessarily the issue.
    It's more so that once he gets BT pressure going he traps you in the gulag and your options are limited- leading you to relying on options which could lead to him getting a bigger hit if you don't play it right.

      268 is plus on block and comes out fast. Goldlewis uses this to frametrap you up close. You FD this until Goldlewis uses a longer range move. Do not try to jump over this move.
      486 is a long range, slow, advancing, plus on block overhead. Backdash this, or standing FD and wait to punish the next move. Goldlewis must alternate this move with moves like Farslash to maintain pressure. 6p the farslash. Do not try to jump over this move. Loses to jab at close range.
      426 is a long range, slow, plus on block mid that crushes 6p and leads to game ending damage on counter hit. Jump over this, or FD this. Goldlewis cannot do this repeatedly and maintain pressure. Loses to jab at close range.
      842 is a fast, very plus on block low. It is extremely close range. Crouch FD this until Goldlewis uses a longer range move. Will lose to jab, but its your funeral for trying to jab this.
      862 is a fast, plus on block overhead, but it's relatively short range. Standing FD this until Goldlewis uses a longer range move. Will lose to jab only at point blank range, and its your funeral for trying to jab this. Do not try to jump over this move.
      248 is a fast, sideswapping, plus on block low/juggle tool. Unlikely to be used in pressure because of its short range and that it pulls you out of the corner. If you must learn this one, just FD low.
      684 is a fast, long range attack that hits above Goldlewis. It's mostly used confirm hits into knockdown and to frametrap from Goldlewis's long range plus on block BTs. If you block this it's -5 and Goldlewis's turn is over. (Unless you block it in the air, so dont try jumping over this move.) This should be your goal for escaping the corner.
      624 is a fast, long range attack that hits in front and behind Goldlewis. It's -5, so if you block it it's your turn as well. Goldlewis mostly uses this as a neutral tool, or with the intention of RCing it for more pressure. If Goldlewis has meter he may try this or 684 as a frametrap/reset.
      And for the love of god stop trying to grab Goldlewis out of the laser. It's not very good.

    I agree guard crushes are a problem especially for strive cause most characters with them have high dmg or High chip dmg like Asuka & Lewis . I’ll say this guard crush in other games are just as bad but because of how it is in strive it means the only options out are burst & deflect but depending on situation they become useless to u . I don’t think giving everyone a guard crush will fix the problem we have with it except make it a mess to play defense and become a mash fest . P. S 0:34 love the meme song here but bottom line strive has a problem but I doubt they will fix it but instead pile in dlc get the bag and dip after last S5 or 6 .

      yeah was curious how they would fix it maybe making it so it doesnt remove the buffer window will just make it feel better to play against? idk im ok with a move being plus and the game representing that but not a fan of no buffer and no grab invuln just do be perma cycled by same move
