the fun fact: You can hear Parisse yell after every scrum "grande Casto, bravo Castro!" 'cause they are best friends, but the hero that day was Totò Perugini, what a beast he was!
I disagreed at the time and still do. When the opposition props collapse in there's nowhere for the opposite to go. Dickinson got it so wrong and it was so obvious.
Classy. I live in Italy and many Italians tell me they don't have the culture for rugby. Eternal bickering and complaining isn't part of rugby. That comes with the round ball. The one where they cry all the time.
The italian scrum was 100 times superior. Ref saved new zealand not awarding try at the end. You can invent rules if you wish. But it's clear that italian scrum was much better. This is the truth.
Italy's binding very suspect the tighthead could have been penalised every time for his bind or lack of it. Pretty poor ref, calls was too fast and missed so much.
Seriously good cheating from italy at 7.40 the italian loosehead pretends to bind drops his arm and scrum collapses. Castrogiovanni literally does not bind and the loose head is not much better. I spoke to a Super Rugby crum coach about this match recently and he said it was a masterclass of cheating from the Italians. Wyatt learned a lot from that match.
Italy just didn't bind, you can't have a stable scrum without binding. Shocking refereeing. There was an apology from World Rugby Referees boss two days after this match he stated the referee, Stuart Dickinson had been wrong in his adjunacations and that Castrogiovanni has bound illegally in every scrum.
Most newspaper journos wouldn't have a clue about scrums, Richard Loe made comment at the time the that the Italians were cheating and he knows a thing or two about cheating. World rugby said Castrogiovanni bound illegally, seriously it's pretty easy to spot. Sad really as Castrogiovanni is a very strong scrummager and it would have been nice to see a real contest, still teams always look for an edge over the All Blacks and to Italy's credit they got away with it that day.
The truth sometimes hurts but it's very simple: in that game Italy's scrum was better than the AB. Moreover Italy was penalized, the referee didn't allow a clear technical try tryng yo save AB scrum reputation
Spot on John. The Italian tighthead caved in every scrum so where does the opposition loosie go? Every knew Dickinson had no idea but the real horror here was the reaction of italian fans. Calling the ABs all the names under the sun (isn't that football??) and the best example of bad sportsmanship around. I'd say, especially as they got it so wrong, the best example of bad sportsmanship was the Italian fans' reaction. Not rugby at all.

Castrogio anni è stato veramente un pilone di livello internazionale!!
Che Italia !!!! Veri gladiatori
excellent video. thx Elliot !
oh man... back in the days when Italian scrum would simply dominate anyone on their path.

Your tighthead collapsed in every scrum. Watch it. The NZ looseheads have nowhere to go
Since when are Italians world experts on rugby?
