More Than Meets the Eye, Part 2 | Transformers Generation 1 | Season 1 | E02 | Hasbro Pulse
Things continue to progress; with the Decepticons on the move, and the Autobots gaining Spike and Sparkplug Witwicky as allies. Still, two humans may not make a difference. The long dormancy has merely delayed Megatron and the Decepticons' ambitions, and they prove increasingly proficient in making up for lost time. Repeated clashes lead to a bigger one in a Decepticon ruby mine and even bigger danger.

"Your knowledge is only overshadowed by your stupidity Starscream." 🤣
Indeed starscreems stupidity cost Meagtron to waste time
@FBI Beluga JR. indeed sadly for screamer he isn't fit to lead
@FBI Beluga JR. but in other versions he can lead but in g1 he wouldn't be a good leader
@@Darth-vade123 Actually, when he created the Combaticons, he had a few victories.
@@wiglafsfilms8418 but Meagtron has had more
As a power plant employee I can confirm we fix power surges with bashing the gauges.
That made me laugh out loud literally
LOL!!!!!!
Percussive maintenance is some of the first OJT
XD I didn't notice that's how they fixed it
The series’ creators originally meant for Hound to be the “kid appeal” character which is why he’s featured so prominently in this three-parter and hangs out so much with Spike. But, due to his size and youth, Bumblebee took that spot, becoming like the Autobots’ little brother, and replacing Hound as Spike’s buddy and the rest is history.
He wasnt also kid friendly with his war image army jeep alt mode
Yeah, but at least Hound was one of the few g1 autobots to survive into season 3. Not many others can say the same!
@@heavyhitter5538 Gi joe would beg to differ. Literally no parents cared about that back then. I think that is actually probably why they originally wanted to use Hound, he had the Gi Joe look. Which was a very popular franchise at the same time. My little brother liked Gi Joe but never really got into Transformers. Transformers was my thing though.
In "The Basics on Bumblebee" it's pointed out in Transport to Oblivion Bumblebee immediately jumped into the role of Human Pal and stayed there. I never put together the idea Hound was doing that here before you pointed it out. Though I still think Bee fills it better being the smallest Autobots he isn't too much taller than a human so he fits in with them much better.
Also looking back now it warms my heart to see in the movie Spike and Bee are still pals hanging out, just on Moonbase 2 rather than Earth.
Just imagine though in the live action movies if it were hound that was found in the dealership not bumblebee, transformers would have been completely different
I've always find it too funny the fact that soundwave is huge but can transform into something that can fit in a human hand like an mixtape
I think they call it (mass shifting) or something
If I'm wrong please let me know
Hmm think ya 100% corrrct.
Those physics completely screw my mind.
@@ronniethompsonRodimusPrime8464 its the same principal that enables players to carry 50 tonnes of weapons and ammo in GTA
I'm totally fine with the hammerspace adjacent transformation because it is a kids cartoon, but I still like to imagine soundwave's tape deck mode being so dense that it just cuts into the dirt, and he slowly sinks while in that form.
Or robot mode soundwave being so light that he'd just float away without the cassette transformers weighing him down
When Soundwave calls outs “Ravage” when he’s captured hit me in the heart
You'd be pissed too if somebody kidnapped your cat/child. Always loved how soundwave treated his cassettes like his kids.
@@dabuff1319 Lol
Then he ditches him a second later
Yeah man, hit me straight in the feels.
I always did like the loyalty between Soundwave and his cassettes. I remember in the episode where Megatron challenges Prime to a one-on-one fight and both sides are settling in to watch. Soundwave ejects Ravage and Laserbeak. He even pets Ravage like a cat in that moment.
"There's two things I really hate: fire and water!"
"Great! You're in the right place!"
lmao
11:20 i love how starscream is using a slingshot even though he has canons on both his arms
That's cartoon logic for you
I cackled so hard when I saw that😭
Well he is launching an explosive rock of some sort.
Well I guess that's one way to save energon
The cannons are just an EMP.
Megatron flying away spinning his mace like he’s Mary poppins always cracks me up. All the others are just flying and he is swinging that thing like a mad man
Remember when the Autobots could fly!?
Makes the whole Decepticons-always-had-an-aerial-advantage-over-Autobots thing a bit sillier in hindsight.
Remember when they had all sorts of gadgets that transformed from their arms. Or that they had unique powers like invisibility, holograms or teleportation?
I like to think they removed their flight equipment to repair the Ark and get it airborne.
@@MMTrigger Actually, it was noted later in the series that the Auto-Bots were more energy efficient where as the Decepticons required more energy due to the built-in anti grav modulators and being mainly weaponized (as per Quintison designed) hence the reason most of the time the Auto-Bots could out last the Decepticons in a gun fight, but at the same time the Decepticon have the advantage of out classing the Auto-Bots in weapons too...kind of?
I know right?!
Things I miss about this iteration of the Transformers:
This quality of animation
Jazz as the Autobots' second in command
The Transformers actually using all the special powers Bob Budiansky assigned them
The Autobots experiencing doubt about their mission
Hound as Spike's pal
Starscream seeming like an actual threat to Megatron instead of an ineffectual clown
All those generic lavender Seekers
Yeah, I miss Lavender Seekers too
Jazz is my favourite character and watching the series back it makes me so happy how much he's in, just bought the studio series 86 jazz a few weeks ago :)
You say that like there aren't more animation errors than stars in the sky.
@@optillian4182 you say that like it's not prominent in most shows of the 80s to 90s
I kinda misssd Galvatrkn from G1, S4 And Transformers 6
1:15 Quick, before the writers decide we can’t fly!
It took 3 total seasons for that to be retconned, apparently.
That final scene, Optimus Prime rolling over from the hill was tragic and got me anxious as a kid. I was like: nooooo, Prime!
The movie must have been incredibly traumatic for you 🤣
Same!!! 😂😂😂
same ya'll
For all of us it was..m
Yeah but not the autobot scout and human in the cave upon impact
I love that just about each Transformer has a special ability or weapon. It makes them unique and valuable as part of their team.
it also helps distinguish the copies like the seekers thunder cracker and skywarp from starscream
Also a unique personality and look
Something that was lacking in Bayformers, most of robots there looking like overgrown grey or black masses of metal, just shooting rockets and bullets. Only few of them had some cool things or abilities.
Yeah
@@Endru85x
I think it was because Bay viewed them as kaijus/plot devices to the humans, and didn't want the audience go care about the Decepticons.
I just love how Sparkplug just charges Thundercracker. You come around the corner face to face with a metal robot like 10 times your size and your first idea is "Imma punch it!" that'll obviously end well xD
The seekers turn into F-16s, and those things are huge. Their robot modes should stand around a solid 25-30 feet tall.

If this was made for kids, think of the censorship it would go through.
Episode 3 was “made for kids” for bettor or for worse…
damn, I forgot how G1 Prime talked so much smack, like, there's not a hint of irony in what he's saying, he straight up called Megatron "trash".
Just like rotf forest fight lol
Prime actually had more of a personality until the Movie. He even used to joke with the other Autobots. Remember that episode where he played basketball with them? 😂. Now he’s just stoic, and always making speeches.
@@shadowdramon01 prime has a personality in the movies
He was a lot more charismatic then the comic version for certain.
@@shadowdramon01 That's because in the movie and most continuities since Cybertron was almost completely destroyed and their race was pretty much driven to near extinction. In G1, he still has some positivity because it's still quite possible for him to defeat Megatron and end the war before they lose the planet.
It’s funny to think that the most iconic Optimus Prime and Megatron face off, aside from the movie, is from this episode. The fight on Sherman Dam. Just Megatron and Optimus slashing at each other, Optimus hurling insults at him, it kinda feels like an animated 80s comic book (Which is funny, because this was produced by Marvel Productions).
80's taunts can teach how to rattle morons to lose focus fights in 80's cartoons....real insults hurt real time....i guess
Apparently, it's because the Japanese animated opening borrowed heavily from the first three episodes, and that included the pivotal shot of them extending their weapons.
@@misterbadguy7325 megatron says....SILENCE.....smacking with flail.....MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
This scene was actually mentioned in the UK comic story Decepticon Dam Busters, as Ratchet was talking to the Dinobots
Megatron said something about pizzas. His hunger for pizzas. If only Optimus Prime had a Pizza Hut menu.
Spike's pretty strong for a teenager. He heaved a rock half as big as him off of Hound, underwater, while swimming and holding his breath.
@14:04, Spike says to Hound, "Thanks Hound, you saved my.."
To which Hound interrupts and says "raven, okay?".. Obviously would have been "you saved my ass!" 😂

“Power flows to the one who knows how. Desire alone is not enough.” Megatron.
Great Motivational line by Megatron.
Megatron knew how to handle and use power to its potential
StarScream could've learned something from Uncle Ben about with great power comes great responsibility
@@ronniethompsonRodimusPrime8464 That's why Lord Megatron truly deserve to be Leader of the Universe.
Megatron was the original LinkedIn poster.
I always thought part of why Megatron put up with Starscream for so long was because his constant attempts to take power kept Megatron sharp. Always needing to be on guard made him stronger and more aware.
*Cybertron is the center of my universe, how is it not the heart of yours?* Nothing Megatron said will top that one line he said during the Devastation game.
i always found it amusing Optimus Prime showed more concern for Roller than Bumblebee or Sparkplug who just got blown up in the cave.... "RoLLER!!!!!". lol

Loved this scene since childhood:
Megatron: "Despite your stupidity Starscream, our mission WILL suceed! First we strike the Berma crystal mines, and THEN we'll locate the rocket fuel we need!"
Starscream: "Don't push me Megatron! My desire for power is as great as YOURS!"
Megatron: "Power flows to the one who knows how, desire alone is not enough!"
Starscream: Time makes all things possible, I can't wait!..!
it's spelled Burma, not Berma.
I'm pretty sure Starscream says, "I CAN wait." Otherwise it doesn't make sense in the context of the previous sentence.
And wait he did, right up til he yeet'd Megs' bent up carcass out of Astrotrain's passenger door
There is another interaction in Part 3 that comes at the end of that episode:
Megatron: "If you dispose of me, there will be someone waiting to dispose of you."
Starscream: "Let them try!"
After Starscream became leader in the '86 movie (for 58.44 seconds), Megatron came back as Galvatron and vaporized him.
10:53 What a great moment between Cliff and Mirage
I sure hope one of them never accuses the other of being a Traitor or something
And I sure hope it doesn't happen again in a sequel series that's considered a reboot over in the US.
"We must have courage, Huffer. We can't ignore the danger, we must conquer it." Optimus Prime was always giving those subtle life lessons. He was the father many of us didn't have.
I’ve always loved the banter between autobots, it makes them feel more human
This is better than the Michael Bay movies.
Pretty sure that was a given anyway.
Obviously, but the bay films have their merits

Even though hasbro taught Bay everything there was about the original series n how it originated from Diaclone and microman in Japan by Takara

Gotta give it to megatron - tidal wave to surge power through a dam is a pretty sophisticated plan.
Spike “why do you transform”
Hound “for disguise”
On cybertron everyone can transform so it’s hardly a disguise. “Oh look a car. It’s definitely not a spy in the shape of a car”
Not everyone can transform. Alpha Triton never transformed and neither did many of Shockwave's drones. Lots of examples. Deceptitran, a roving Decepticon computer, from Sea Change didn't transform either. As explained in Five Faces of Darkness Part Four, transforming was an ability that developed gradually over millions of years, first with the Autobots, then the Deceptions also.
20:33 Sparkplug's jaw must be shattered in about 12 places 😄
I need to ask, what the hell was he thinking going after a robot that was 20 x his size?
I like how the Autobots conveniently forget they can fly after the pilot. 😂
More like the writers forgot they weren't supposed to fly
The Autobots fly after the pilot, it’s just not as often.
They stop doing it permanently after Forever is a Long Time Coming.
The Sherman Dam fight scene Between Optimus Prime and Megatron became the most iconic images in G1 cartoon history.
Watching this was so entertaining! Ive never laughed so hard for sometime! Its like watching a parody! The amount of trash talk between Megatron and Prime. Mirage acrobatics. Spike tackling Rumble. Megatron using his Energon Mace to helicopter off the dam!
And yet, it's an official cartoon, that had millions of dollars poured into it
i think you can still find the dvd with this whole season on it if youd like to binge it all at once, idk if it is though
@@prowlsleftfoot I have all four seasons on dvd
It was an 80s show to sell toys to kids. It wasn’t meant to be Oscar worthy. Watching it now as an adult, I can see lots of flaws. As a kid it was the greatest thing ever. But let’s be honest, it’s no more parodic than the fast and furious movies or much of what’s made today. Movies with 300m budgets that are full of plot holes, poor scripts and bad acting.

Magical
Alien technology.
Rubies maybe not, but rubellite maybe if they have enough of it because rubellite has been scientifically proven to become magnetic when warmed up, and through alien tech and handwavy show logic they should be able to harvest the magnetic energy into energon as many times as they need by repeatedly warming them up.
Spike commenting on how he didn't know if the Transformers were from the past or future is hilarious in hindsight given Beast Wars' time travel shenanigans.

I love how in the first episode the autobots can fly. And why did Megatron leave without killing the autobots after being revived.
That's what I was thinking, megatron is a dumbass 😆😆
Yes megatron and the cons should have taken out tekleteaam 1 but I guess they was low on fuel
Weren't the Autobots already clinically dead, like the Decepticons had been before Teletraan revived them?
A quote that still has great meaning to me “This is the last load, prepare to pull out”

Soundwave is a Decepticon with so many powers and abilities, yet he has to press his own button to open his chest.

Yup I used rush from school just in time to catch the transformers
“You’re old, Megatron! Yesterday’s model, ready for the scrap heap!” Hell yeah, You tell him, Optimus!
“We’ll see who’s ready for the scrap heap!”
One good thing about these early episodes is the effort put in to establish the character's personalities. Where there has been other Transformers media I've liked more such as The Beast Era and Furman's comics, nothing was as magical as been a kid in the mid 80s watching season 1.
15:19 how i always love the lovers quarell between these two haha

They literally bicker like an old married couple. 😂
To me, their distain towards one another is hilariously entertaining. Much like Shredder and Krang.
I always liked how both adults and kids could enjoy this show, the newer ones don't really capture that feeling. I wasn't around when these were made, show I had to watch reruns, being born in 2005 has it's perks, I guess, didn't have to wait for new episodes to come out, just had to wait for the episodes to air, or use the DVR
I was born in 2005 too 😂, im glad I actually got to experience some old stuff before we got all this electronics chabge and stuff 😕, and im guessing since then cartoons were made to both inspire and entertain unlike now where people complain if a character is gay or not 😞

Was Hound originally supposed to be the kid appeal character? Imagine how the franchise would be if that followed through.
I feel like then there would have been a solo movie about Hound instead of Bumblebee
@@iLikeBigBotsAndiCanNotLie I don't think that would have worked as well. Bumblebee makes much more sense because of his size compared to the other Autobots, plus it's hard to imagine Hound struggling against Blitzwing as much as Bumblebee did. Remember when they had all those Deception seekers? Also that some them were the same color as Thundercracker?
Because in the toyline when it started, the Autobots outnumbered the Decepticons. So the Seekers were an excuse to give Megatron more soldiers.
Yeah, the first wave of toys had like 20 Autobots and barely more than 10 Decepticons, but in the cartoon, the Decepticons are supposed to be in control of Cybertron and winning the war, so they added a buttload of random Seekers and I think Reflectors as foot soldiers to make the Decepticons’ ranks look bigger.
I should have bought like three thundercrackers and three skywarps when i was a kid. then i would rename them. still i called them Trianglicons (before the term Seekers became official).
Anyone else forget they could just fly?

Seeing Megatron flying off with the mace is like okay, g1 was something alright
14:29 That is why 80s cartoons were great. Tough cool brave strong heroes who take action and have confidence and give the less cool hope to be better. Nowadays: Huffer would be the main guy and his whining would be something meant for kids top relate to. As kids: We don't want someone who's "Just like us" on our shows. We want someone we can aspire to be like. Who would you rather be? The guy on the swim team whos as fast as you, or the guy who's number 1 in the country? Nowadays most kids shows are about wieners crying in the wind while the cool heroes are sidelined and the kids gotta save the day. That's one reason the world is going down: Less role models worth being like. I may be a 90s kid who grew up with Beast Wars, but before that I caught old eps of G1 and loved it. Recently I finished watching the Japanese G1 with Headmasters, Masterforce and Victory on DVD and they were cool. But most Anime today is kinda weak. I'm glad to see the 80s Transformers is up to watch so I can finally see what I missed.
