Great video, perfect evaluation. I coach internationally, almost always involving the Women's or Junior Women's national teams. I am 71, in my 48th year, played fadtpitch for 28 years. I am currently in the Philippines trying to advance primarily coach's skills. I see a lot of youth coaches saying, "Well I do it different and it works." The problem is, "quality softball". They will not be prepared to coach or play at a high level until they at least understand these principles. This is a game of statistics, and though not written in stone, the simplest principles for 3rd and Home are the AXIOMS; Never make your 1st out at home plate; never make your 1st or 3rd outs at 3rd base! Your video is perfect, unfortunately the "rookie" coaches don't see it.
thanks so much for the kind words - yes, baseball and softball are all about risk v reward, percentages, and the smart play. Lots of factors can change but yes, we need a foundation of smart decisions!
Great videos, I stumbled upon your page and you give great advice things I am always teaching my players much of the same. Sometimes as coaches you sit in your own bubble its good to see others teaching as you do. Thanks
Softball..Eliminate rec rythms…Stealing on the first pitch…If your hitter is timed up and a change up is coming...Softball 2nd to third with righthanded hitter you run a fake bunt steal drawing the third baseman up and beating the shortstop…Even a bunt miss securing the third baseman not peeling back…
Pretty much what I've done in little league and club ball. I do like though stealing 3rd with 2 out in a pitchers duel late in the game with a very weak hitter that's is being overwhelmed by the pitcher. You're hoping for a bad throw into the outfield. It's worked for me a few times when I know that hitter won't do it and we're facing a superior team and I'm literally trying to steal a win.
Another bad time is when you are down big and have 1st and 3rd no outs. Many coaches wrongly think catcher won't throw because of runner on 3rd scoring but if my team is up big I'll tell my catcher throw to 2nd and I'll gladly give up a run for an out if my team is up big. Sometimes in this situation the girl won't run hard because she's assuming catcher won't throw it
I coach 12u and 16u. I am taking 2nd Everytime until they stop my players! 3rd with my 16u they always have a green light my faster girls will do it my slower girls will hold unless a passed ball. 12u they getting told to steal first pitch. 99% of time catcher will blow the throw, or not throw at all, because 3rd base is not paying attention to runner!

My girl is a catcher. This video is also valuable for catcher situational awareness.
