    Saw a lot of request for this so here is my take. For the last two feats its important to get +2 Str, doesn´t matter if you do it over lvl 11 and 12 or just straight up with 11. You could go athlete and heavy armor master or mageslayer and 2+ atri. OR you can go 2 lvls into barb and enjoy rage + reckless attacks, which would make you even tankier. Your choice.

    • @DJVevyVevs
      @DJVevyVevs 10 месяцев назад +1

      Would it be valid to put 11 and 12 into fighter so you get level 4 feat then level 5 second extra attack? I heard that in Early access, extra attacks stacked. Idk if that's still a thing, but if it is that sounds neat too

      I do not really understand why you go heavy armor, just use no armor trait.
      Buff that says your starting AC 13AC
      Dexterity lets say 16 = +3 AC (+4 when we take the 18dex gloves )
      Wis lets say 16 = +3 AC
      Buff that says if you have no armor you have +3AC
      Buff that gives +2 AC
      Buff that gives +1AC and links 2 targets ( you receive twice less damage now )
      Use shield ( +2AC for example, can be more )
      Cloak +1AC
      Shoes +1AC
      Ring when obscured +1AC or other options
      Potion +2AC
      Armor trait +1AC
      Gloves that gives unarmored attacks dmg bonus, bow if possible that gives haste.
      13+3+3+3+2+1+2+1+1+2+1
      34 AC, but have to multiclass a bit. I am playing on 26 AC and enemies are a joke RN. Also we can try to take the cloning spell which will give us +9 just for sweet 43AC screenshot.
      Update below.

    Instead of going multiple levels into Fighter, I’d recommend a split of 8 Open Hand Monk, 3 Thief Rogue, 1 Fighter. Thief is absolutely insane in conjunction with Flurry of Blows and this will increase your damage far more than the Fighter levels. It results in you being a little greedier with Ki, but the damage tradeoff is worth it. You’ll also get a lot of nice roguish utility.
    Also, you can ditch Fighter in the endgame and take an extra level of Rogue instead if you want a third feat. Just make sure one of those feats is Medium Armor Master for shield proficiency and the bump to strength. As for the armor, just grab the Helldusk chestpiece, as it doesn’t care about proficiency. This setup will lack the Fighter’s fighting style, but the feat may make up for that depending on your priorities.

    Remember to equip that shield! As long as you don’t have a weapon, the shield won’t interfere with your unarmed attack or bonus action at all. Act 2, Damon (I think) sells a shield that give a above bonus to initiative to help offset our dumped Dex
    Monk not scaling with strength without tavern brawler is a tooltip error, I started a strength monk, level 1 fighter dip for proficiencies, and my unarmed attacks worked fine. It still shows my flurry of blows as -1 to damage, but I get my strength mod when I attack.
    I would recommend monk 6/rogue3-4/ fighter2-3
    3 levels in their rogue gets us an additional bonus action, better for our dpr. Action surge gives us two extra attacks one per short rest, while thanks to flurry of blows, we get two extra attacks at least 3 times. More thanks to wholeness of body, and we can always just attack normally for free.
    4 rogue for the ASI
    2 fighter is fine enough, there’s so many enchanted items for unarmed monk damage that the superiority die aren’t super good for increasing it, and we have topple on flurry which is great at generating advantage already.
    3 fighter if you decide on 3 rogue, I think the extra chance to hit and damage going up by 2 is worth the extra 1d8 damage though, but still a solid option.

    • @tantalus_complex

      Just a note for folks to consider:
      Take Thief at level 3 to increase the number of bonus actions you can do per round from one to two. This is a build which gets a lot of use of bonus actions.
      If you get the Awakened buff from the Githyanki creche and are willing to use at least the first tier of tadpole powers, you'll have even more bonus action options.

    If you're going to be using no weapon in the main hand, then grabbing Trip Attack is a wasted choice. Like the Stun attack for Monk, it's specifically either unarmed or melee (weapon) AFAIK. Unless everything else from every other class just means whatever melee attack you can perform. If it stays greyed out and cannot be used, the better choices are Precision Attack for +1d8 to your attack roll (which can be amazing with the ilithid power that guarantees a crit once per long rest) and Rally for getting downed allies up from range. You can go 16 Strength, then grab Tavern Brawler for +1 Strength, Heavy Armor Master for +1 Strength again, then a ASI from your Lv6 Fighter feat to cap at 20 and ensure every bonus from equipment pushes you over the top. This will let you put 16 into Wisdom for +3 to saving throws on annoying CC spells and +3 to your passives from Lv6 Monk.
    That would land you at 20 Strength, 16 Wisdom, -3 damage taken from physical sources, and the huge +10 to attack and damage rolls on unarmed attacks.

Armoured = +15 hit ( or +20 seems they don't apply the tavern brawler bonus on the character page) 21/38 damage 24 AC (+1 shield and 19 AC from armor i don't use the bis). I have only 20 str (i boost dex with the mirror). Armoured is better overall BUT unarmoured is better if it's your only dex character. Tbh both are incredibly strong. Interestingly enough, the tavern brawler feat does work with dex builds as well, just requiring you to have strength (go figure).
    how the roll works is the standard (at level4) 1d6 + Dex modifier + strength modifier + bonuses from equipment (like corellians staff giving +1 to unarmed)
    it i have yet to get to a point where my str bonus outweighs my dex bonus, but i think my current die at that level is 1d6 + 3 (dex) + 2 (strength) + 1 (corellions staff) + 1 (sparkle hands). so my minimum damage is 7 bludgeoning +1 lightning damage on my unarmed attacks and this is still act one as a pure monk though i have gone the elemental monk. I know this can go higher depending on some items like other gloves types and boots but thats where i am in act 1 and its pretty decent damage.
    On monk weapons as well, EVERYTHING YOU ARE PROFICIENT IN USING IS A MONK WEAPON. you could pick up that fancy excalibur sword in the underdark if you have longsword proficiency (which a Woodelf does)

      Dual hand crossbow sword bard is broken OP.
      You basically do the same thing, but you replace tavern brawler with sharpshooter.
      Sword bard gives you a bonus extra attack using the sword skills (you get ranged variant), or you can use maneuvers-like attacks instead. That's 3 main hand attacks in a turn.
      Go rogue thief for additional offhand attack. That's now 5 attacks per turn.
      Action surge for 10 attacks on initial turn.
      And you get sneak attack, and a bonus short rest.
      3 Rogue, 3 Champion Fighter, and 6 Sword Bard.

    Just a heads up , if you go human/half elf you eventually find a legendary Full Plate+3 that doesnt need proficiency , that allows you to go full monk , and you can use the 23 STR gloves ( i know i know there is an 1d10 force gloves , but the simple fact that tavern brawler double str from both dmg AND hit chance its just better for AVG dmg on enemies with high armor class , remember a monk that misses does 0 dmg ).
    This allows you to respec out of STR, for 20 Wis/Con or 16 Con/Wis , while maintaining +6Str , and 24 AC with armor and shield ALONE ( using a +1 shield ) , 4 higher than an Unarmored Monk with 20 Dex and Wis considering armor slot ALONE but with much higher Accuracy and DMG on average.

      You can also get 20 STR for free pretty much if you spare Auntie Ethel and give yourself 1 point into STR with her hair and then later on in Act 2 with the Potion that drow gives you that permanently increases STR by 2. Assuming you gave yourself atleast 16 STR at the start, you have 20 STR for free and Tavern Brawler with the +1 to STR by Act 2 with ideally a starting total of 16 WIS. That way for following ASI distribution you can focus on mainly WIS/CON. I'm planning on using those Soul Fists as well so unfortunately those 23 STR Gloves won't work for me 😅 tis a style over substance issue I'm having lol
      Edit: Found out there's an Amulet of Greater Health later on that brings CON to 23. Definitely going to respec the remaining points into DEX once acquired.

    Okay so here's my idea. End will have rejuvenation robes, 20 Dex, and 20 wisdom for a total of 22 AC. Cape and some other things should take it to 24/25 AC unarmored.
    Start off 16/17 dex and 17/16 wis with 14 con. Start as rogue for skills then level 2-5 monk. Get tavern brawler from feat. Should have club of hill giants str from arcane tower by then.
    Will have 19 str and be able to utilize TB. Get hag hair for +1 wis and then astarion bite chick in act 2 for +2 str(stuck at 19 tho). You could do hands of dex for 18 dex and switch dex/str stats but lose 2 AC from bracers of defense.
    Bone spike boots give more AC, get str gloves and con neck from Ralph's house. Respec to max dex/wis and whatever else with 23 str and con.
    Not too far off helldusk 21 plus shield and rings/cape AC and you still have the option to do that while maintaining a dex based sleight of hand/stealth guy if you don't want astarion in party for whatever reason.
    My reason is party composition wanting shadowheart, karlach, and one other aside from astarion for interaction purposes and story progress.

    A note on ki-empowered strikes. It adds your wisdom modifier as damage. I'd say start with 16 wisdom instead of constitution. Tavern brawler still gets you to 18 strength, and then wear the clothes (the Mighty something) that give +2 strength. You can then do two ASIs to get wisdom to 20 and a +5 to ki-empowered strikes. If you get the Kushagi boots as you enter Act 3, your wisdom modifier gets applied again.

    • @XaadeTheBlade
      @XaadeTheBlade 9 месяцев назад +1

      Because you forfeit DEX for the build.
      If you try to get DEX up to match the armored class, you have to use dex gloves, and you forfeit gloves that add a D10 to unarmed damage or sparkle gloves that gives lightning charges, which is better than a +4 over leaving WIS at 16.
      All of that and you max out armor at 18, when there's heavy armor at 21, and you have less HP.

    • @longers1028
      @longers1028 9 месяцев назад

      @@XaadeTheBlade monk's unarmored defense adds your wisdom multiplier to your AC anyways. Collect a bunch of potions of hill/cloud giant strength, and you can just dump strength. There are vendors that can restock the potion every time you long rest and level up. Even excluding events that give permanent increases to your ability scores, 16 dex and 20 wisdom still give +8 to your armor class. Have someone cast warding bond, and you get up to 20 AC and still have other ways to increase it further.
      I'll admit that the mighty garb for +2 strength and advantage on strength checks is not the best, especially when using one of the giant potions. The graceful garb serves you pretty well until you get a better robe in Act 3.

    You can trade the Battlemaster Maneuvers for the same AC, a tiny bit lower if you were using a shield, with specific items and Rage if you go Barbarian instead. And Bearheart gives you Resistances. This also allows you to wear some of the really powerful clothing items.
    Barb gets Unarmored Defence from Constitution instead.
    Amulet of Greater Health sets your con to 23.
    Start with 16 Dex, use the Mirror in House of Grief for +2 Dex.
    Already that is 20 AC naked. The Vest of Soul Rejuvenation gives +2 AC and you regain Hp on a successful save against spells.
    22 AC, no shield, no armor. And you get to benefit from unarmored movement. No use having a lot of AC from heavy armor if you can barely catch up to enemies going after your backline.
    Add Warding Bond, Ring of Protection and Cloak of Protection... you have 25 AC, At least +2 to saves with the ring and cloak, and heal from those save vs spells.

    I'm trying to cook up a naked tank monk (maybe druid) build by trying to maximize the amount of stats that grant AC bonus. The idea is to mix at least 1 level Barbarian to get the +Con to AC bonus, and the Monk +Wis to AC bonus, and then also just have a high Dex for the regular AC bonus. I'm not sure if the primary class should be Monk or Druid Wild Shape, because I've heard that your beast stats aren't derived from your human traits, but from the animal itself. So if you shift into a bear, I would assume you'd get a lot of +Con, which would theoretically boost your AC even further, due to the Barbarian trait. I haven't actually play tested it yet, but I think it could be fun.

    It's a great alternative to the normal build but it's weaker than the dex/wis one. The manifistations you pick up at monk (6) scale with wisdom, they're 1d4+wisdom modifier. So with my 20 wis its additional 5 dmg. Then in the end of act 2 you get Boots of Uninhibited Kushigo (The wearer deals additional damage equal to their widsom modifier with unarmed strikes). Plus, instead of the gloves you've posted, there is a much much better version that can be aquired in the very beginning of act 1 (The sparkle hands), i've created my whole build around those with the lightning charges and getting advantage, it's pretty insane till the very very late stages of the game when you get the legendary gloves. With all the defenses that you get, you can even drop con to 10 or 8 and get your str up + brawler, yet, I also did some testing and it's not worth it. In the very beginning of act 3 i'm at 18-31 unarmed strike damage (6-9 of that dmg you can select between the necrotic, radiant, psychic). And that's plain constant dmg, without any of the "red" skills (you know what I mean). Most of the time I'm at 95% or 99% (for those that don't know, when the game shows you 99% it means you have 95% with advantage). On a bit unrelated note, going with the regular route makes you also formidable for lots of other things, be it stealth/lockpicking/stealing or dialogs insights, seeing hidden things. Not to forget that with dex/wis, you're tankier since you have such a high dex and wis, i have +15 to dex saving throws and advantage on those due to the graceful cloth and +11 on wis. Your idea to multiclass with warrior is a good one, not many options for multiclassing with a monk unfortunately since most things require a "weapon" and unarmed attacks are not considered to be one :( Unfortunatelly a lot of attack-based multiclass options are not viable because of that. Rogue would be awesome if his stuff would work with unarmed.

They apply only to unarmed, not the melee weapon, even if its a "monk" weapon. so after lvl 6 or maybe 7 I've started using fists only. It's more damage that way. 2) monk only, i'll most likely multiclass at 11 and go 8 monk (to get both traits) and 3 warrior (most likely doing it exactly as Mordarim) but i'm not sure on the multiclass part yet. I'm not quite there yet. need half a level till lvl 11 ^^. 3) both traits went into wisdom to get to 20/20. I dont want to spoil too much but my distribution was weird, unless you know some of the things that will happen in the story. Minor spoiler, Hag, take the trait and put it into dex. then i've started with 10 str, 17 dex (trait + the graceful cloth) to get to 20, 14 con, 8 int, 16 wis, 8 cha. Down the road i also got +2 str permanently through a quest. So in theory I could dump con to 10 and wis to 18 and raise str and take brawler but as i previously mentioned, when I tested the actual dmg on hitting Gale in the camp (he heals himself, so you can test it for a long time) The tradeoff all the stuff I lost for a very very minor boost in dmg just didnt feel like being worth it.

      It's asking a bit too much to go 3/4 into Rogue (Thief) just for an extra Bonus Action. Sure, it's absolutely busted like anything that changes the action economy. But if you're going Strength, you're going to have no Dexterity leftover to have a meaningful impact on your AC. Furthermore, Sneak Attack is a waste if you're using Tavern Brawler since they require a melee or ranged weapon attack and appear to be bugged at the moment, and would do low damage at just 3/4 either way. You have an ability as Monk that gives you Dash and a free jump (amplified by your Strength score) that effectively does what the Cunning actions for Rogue do, making them not worth as much since they also need a Bonus Action to use. Meanwhile, 6 into Fighter will net you a decent chunk of extra HP, proficiency in Heavy Armor and Shields to massively improve your AC, and at the very least 4 times per short rest to add +1d8 to your damage rolls on attack. That's not even mentioning getting a whole extra Feat or ASI from going 6 Fighter.

That leaves me at overall Level 7. From there, I considered Rogue to level 3 for Thief subclass, getting the extra Bonus Action to have more bonus Unarmed Strike or Flurry of Blows. That leaves me at overall level 10. The final two levels I was considering going back to Monk to reach Monk 8 (Monk 7 to get to Monk 8, getting the final feat for Ability Score Improvement to put into STR), or at this point get Fighter 2 for Action Surge (if not taken earlier), and the final level can go into whatever.
      I don’t know how well this would work, if at all, and it’s understood that some of the additional abilities, skills, passives offered by Monk, Thief, Fighter would not even be relevant due to the presence of armor and/or other factors - the goal is getting as many attacks from Actions and Bonus Actions as possible. Maybe this isn’t min-maxed to be the perfect setup, maybe the math doesn’t add up somewhere, or I’m forgetting or overlooking some nuanced mechanic - I’m gladly open to any and all suggestions for improvement and optimization.
      EDIT: After seeing someone else’s comment, War Cleric might be better at Level 1 than Fighter. You still get the Heavy Armor Proficiency, and the War Priest subclass feature states “When you make an unarmed or weapon attack, you can spend a War Priest Charge to make an additional attack as a Bonus Action.” Unless I’m seeing it incorrectly (and I very well may be), in the end, you’d get War Cleric bonus action, Thief bonus action, Monk bonus action, etc.
      EDIT EDIT: More testing. Apparently, when attempting to pull off a Flurry of Blows move, it uses both a Ki AND a War Priest Charge at the same time, creating a complete waste of a resource. Not sure if that’s intended or not, but certainly disappointing. Switched back to Fighter 1 for now.

    If your a monk then your attacks will scale with dex unless your strength is higher. Also a great way to make a high ac monk is just to go one level in wizard. You can get mage armor and not have to worry about wisdom adding to your armor class for unarmored defense.

    Quick advice for you, though : if you want to show a well specialised monk, first good thing to do would be to show him unarmored me thinks, but I'll consider this is for clickbait motivation... And comments to boot.... Right? Also your sepcial build deserves testing, Armored monk? With plate you say? I'll be trying that, as I'm a man, like you it seems to me : a player.
    That's just me and my two cents grate experience with Monk, basically's peaking. George Monk, Duke of Albermarle, as a matter of act. Also, RPG players didn't wait for you to consider Monks based on Strength. Good thing you're not mentionning 'monkadin' or even Monkarian, for that matter. You have respect for D&D and it shows. So congratz to you, good sir. But remember HALL WEIGHTS : Monk Unarmoured > 😶‍🌫> 👍
    Then after hitting the accept button, you get to name your monk 'Remo Williams' also, for even gooder measure. 🤣
    EDIT: Though I must admit some of those perspectives you're bringing are really good. Let me please add to the bard video requester somewhere down the thread we're having, here. For I too, happen to have ye good ol' lord bardeth as a main, you know? (So good in opportunity attacks tandem with Astarion also, man o'man... Me likey very much) >>> Subbed.

    Monk/rogue seems to be better imo :
    Turns out, you need :
    STR : 8
    DEXT : 17 -> (+1 with feat)
    CONS : 14
    INT : 8
    WIS : 16 -> (+1 from Green Hag) (+1 with feat)
    CHAR : 10
    Route is :
    Level 1 > Rogue 1
    Level 2 -> Monk 1
    Level 3 -> Monk 2
    Level 4 -> Monk 3 ( Sub-Class : Open Hand )
    Level 5 -> Monk 4 (Feat : 2x Point ability !! )
    Level 6 -> Monk 5
    Level 7 -> Monk 6
    Level 8 -> Rogue 2
    Level 9 -> Rogue 3 ( Sub-Class : Thief ) Why ? Double Action bonus = 1 action from your turn + 1 action from your bonus attack + 2 blows from Open Hand + 2 blows from Open Hand = 6 Attack.
    Level + -> As you wish
    How to play it ?
    Armor : None. Your Wisdom carry it. So you don't need at all.
    Later you'll drop gloves that give : +2CA if you don't wear amor so feel free to equip them, but keep in mind, your not the tank and your main target should be the squishy one.
    Weapon : Until you get level 4 ( Monk 3 ) use a rapier. It's not very ninja like but, keep in mind you'll do wonders later on. ( You'll be not a Paladin, but you can literraly save a party with this build )
    Past Level 6 : Go back to Fist as weapon. You'll pratically control the combat by yourself by using blows that's prone ennemies.
    With 2x profiency with Slight of hand in your build : Door/Chest can't block you.
    You can sneak + Sneak attack if needed.
    For range weapon : Use Hand Crossbow. 👍🤡👍 You'll feel like Van Hellsing !

      True about dmg but this build has an upper hand on accuracysince it should use double de str on hit ( that would be like using a +4/5/6 weapon) and since this game is not one with every monster having 10 AC its innocent at best to assume a permanent +4 to accuracy isnt going to turn several misses into hits ( making you not deal 0 dmg )

      In any way, as long as Tavern Brawlers keeps doubling the str on hit chance, it will be atleast as good as no armor monk if not better if you take into account being able to have less support centric members ( this is specially true when playing with Friends and no one wants to be the support bitch )
