Im David's lawyer, on his behalf I want to thank everyone for the beautiful and supportive comments. Many commenters want an update on David, so here goes. Typical of David's character, when he got out he began working for the Juvenile Division of the Brooklyn Legal Aid Society hoping to help youngsters avoid what happened to him. It took him some time after 29 years of incarceration for him to get used to life on the outside, but he really picked up on things quickly. He is humble, joyful man to be around. He now is the proud father of beautiful daughter and living a quiet peaceful life. He often speaks to groups at school and universities about wrongful conviction and the criminal justice system.

Davids mother is one of the absolute heroes of this story. She has had to cope for 30 years caring for a severly disabled daughter who was only supposed to live til she was 13 but with the care of her mother has lived to her 50s .As well as looking after grandchildren it seemed for most of the time.On top of this for 30 years visiting her son and trying to keep his spirits up she has kept going I am sure over the years she has had people who believed her son was guilty of murder and that must of been horrible. What a strong woman and mother she is hopefully David will be awarded a large settlement and be able to give his mother the retirement she so deserves.

I was David's lawyer. Sadly Ernestine McCallum passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. She was remarkable woman of strength and love. She almost missed her son's exoneration because she was home baking every team member one of her special pound cakes and she didnt want to leave until they were ready. She made them for us a few times over the years we worked on David's case My wife asked her for the recipe and she said " Easy, one pound flour, one pound eggs, one pound sugar, one pound butter. Thats why its called pound cake." Who knew? May she rest in peace

Especially under the much better circumstances of being exonerated rather than being on parole! Her strength and beautiful soul made quite a difference to countless numbers of people. 🙏🏽 May her spirits rest peacefully. I pray for Her family to celebrate her life continuously.

The only thing I'm quite curious about that I dont believe was addressed is why Wiliiam STuckey lied about David being his accomplice ? They needed an adult with them the fact they wouldn't allow an adult to be present is a HUGE redflag!!!!! David seems so sweet and kind with such a beautiful beaming smile. THIS IS THE BEST DOCUMENTARY EVER!!!
Where do I start, first time seeing his mother on the doco, she was just a warm beautiful woman and I just wanted to give her a huge hug.Ofcourse the whole family are beautiful people including David too.
I was so proud of David and how he has handled himself through it all. Im actually in awe of him , what an amazing man.
Now Ken Klonsky wrote a article on Rubin Hurricane Carter and thats how David got in touch with Ken and eventually became bestfriends with Ken’s son Ray!
What incredible people they are especially Father and son, they truly believed in David from the very start, and fought to help prove his innocence!
Rubin helped pro bono and unfortunately passed away before David was exonorated however Rubins last dying wish did become reality!
To Davids lawyer and his private investigator, you guys ROCK!!!
Lastly to KEn and Ray, You guys really pushed this and made this happen, especially Ken because he got the ball rolling, even though David had already reached out to Rubin and Rubin agreed to help David Pro Bono!
However I do believe Ken kept the spotlight shining bright on the whole Case especially his son Ray.
Rays Documentary is a testament to how much hard work he and his filmaker partner Marc Lamy did on the case. They always showed up ready to chase leads whether it was with Davids private investigator or with Davids Lawyer.
Ray never gave up and continued to dig everywhere in the hope that he could find some new evidence to help Davids case.
Ken and Ray played a huge important part in Davids life as they were his Mental strength and his emotional support and David was a huge support mentally and emotionally to Ray aswell!
So proud of All of you and so happy with the outcome, JUSTICE WAS FINALLY SERVED and thankyou to everyone who played their parts and never gave up!
    God Bless you all

Such a good point... putting things into perspective.
It's crazy that one moment someone can be handcuffed and we form a negative opinion... then the next minute, they are free... and we would treat them differently... when they are the same person.
I think it is sad that the parole board really didn't seem to get to speak to David. That some POS cops that just wanted to close a case no matter what, picked young kids they could bully and coerce.
How is it that despite all that he has had taken away, or missed out on... I mean no relationships, or his own family. No real chance at education, no chance to dream, to work hard to be what he wanted to be... experiences, first loves, jobs, kids... the things we may take for granted... yet he has been positive this whole time...Not to mention the assumed violence in prison, especially being so young...
Yes, we need to stop whining that we have to basically stay inside so that we don't die!

Ever since I was a child I’ve been a hyper empathetic person. Often throughout childhood , my teenage years and now as a 21 year old the darkness in the world , all the bad that happens , all the pain and suffering and wrong doings spiraled me into dark depressions . Being so disgusted by the state of the world , what humans can do to others that I didn’t want to be in it at all. Like a sadness and grieving of the
Whole world crushing down on me all at once . I know there is good in the world , I know justice does prevail sometimes , but each time I hear of the horrible things happening to people by other people I crumble again. I was watching this film in tears and my heart felt weighed down hurting for David and his family. I’m overjoyed the charges were dismissed and he was freed , but my heart aches for all the time that he lost , the experiences that were stolen for him.. those are things that can’t be given back now . It’s bittersweet . I hope the world changes , that things will one day get better and that truth and goodness towards our fellow people will prevail .

David speaks with such refinement, logic and intelligence - and bravery I instantly knew he was innocent. For the parole board to deny release goes beyond any comprehension of justice. David is one brilliant man/person and his family and friends make me realise the true goodness in the world. Ken Thompsom, the new DA restores my faith in the system and we need great men/women like Mr Thompson. Police involved in these cases need to be held responsible. If it comes to light that you were a cop involved with intimidation to beat a false confession out of a 'suspect' the threat of major jail time should be there for you too.
The result of this incident effectively amounted to another murder and the theft of a major part of a mans life. Willie Stuckey, an innocent man, spent the last 16 years of his life in prison. He died of a heart attack at just 32.
Since death by heart attack at such a young age has to be relatively rare this may amount to murder by the stress of being unjustly imprisoned and facing an entire life from 16 years old to death behind bars. Somebody should pay for that just as someone should pay for any murder.
David McCallum survived the ordeal but lost probably over a third of his life in prison. That too is a crime that someone should be paying for.

My father railroaded by ambitious prosecutor who got lots of publicity of my mothers suicide, declared my father a murderer in spite she tried every which way there was. He became a state Senator after the conviction because of the daily news and name recognition. He was assigned a blind attorney and family member stole the money for discovery that was raised in my dad's factory where he was a die sinker, and highly respected. Finally the Governor of Michigan, G. Mennen Williams gave my father the first pardon in 20 years. My father had been given ECT in prison, part of the testing they were doing then, my belief, and developed mental illness and could not adjust once released. The newspaper that prosecuted him during his trial continued to do so every year publish an article whether he should have been pardoned. It is cruel. He suffered greatly and my mother cried most all the time, had early hysterectomy which I think contributed to her depression in the early '50;s. No reparation because my dad developed mental illness so he was not deserving, apparently. But a miracle after six years of incarceration. My brother sister and I grew up in different foster homes, strangers to one another. Mothers insurance money taken by Catholic Social Services never accounted for, but was substantial at the time as she worked in factory. Caused much friction. Never any nurturing or hugs or caring how we felt. Worked in every home I went to. Slept with bed wetter every night. It is an ugly world, but that prosecutor was ambitious and held back facts that should have never had my father convicted. The senator was not re elected and died a few years later. Many people convicted because of egos of the representatives of the government. I told police my father was innocent as he was crying "why did you do it" when I discovered hem. They did not let me testify a the trial. I was 11 years old then. Our system sucks. So many innocent in prison and the guilty running the system. I got a college degree with High Honors, and worked for government and did my job honestly. Did not play politics with anyone. I was there for my clients, the people who lived in nursing homes, state facilities, and assisted living homes. My job was to protect them and I stuck my neck out and was not popular because that was just not the way it was done. Everyone working for themselves.

This happens way too often to black men and and a few white men unfortunately it also happens to women. Our justice system is appalling there are way too many liberal and Democrat judges unfortunately that decides how many years someone will spend in prison. Republican judges fall on the end of being more emotional I'm partial to the person that is on trial. This is statistically proven. @@nunya2954 I hadn't watched all of it when I commented which is exactly why I said it as I did. I was interrupted and had to leave half through...having said that now I have watched it , what I saw in the end was a new DA calling this an investigation into David's case when in fact there was no new investigation . The man had done his time and because it was a high profile case with Dr Rubin Carter making death bed appeals for his release the DA knew this would get him huge popularity with the New York folks.
We didn't see any new evidence brought to court or hear anything said regarding his guilt. Because they dont want to indict him again after 29yrs means nothing, mans done his 25-life. Just because cigarettes were found with another mans DNA doesn't prove anything.
I still haven't heard why they were connected with those boys with the car & why Will Stuckey name was put up in first place, why he said they did it.? I saw nothing to tell me those boys didn't meet up with them as informer said , and get involved. Nothing was proven it was all ifs and maybe...so I feel I dont honestly know if this mans guilty or not, but he made a damn convincing confession throwing in added details he wasnt asked to do , which dug his own grave & made him look guilty ...but hes done his time anyway & should have had parole before then , these people helped make his case public & got him out. Think of all those left to rot.

Even his own mother couldn't say , and she said she wasn't proud of who he was then but prison made a man of him...we saw no definitive proof of innocence. He was let out by a publicity seeking New DA because of his cases high popularity with the black community and Dr Rubin Carters death bed appeals. The man had already done his time , it meant nothing for them to refuse to indict him again after 30yrs...he did his 25-life . He has not been pardoned or proven innocent.
