    This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

    I wish they would bring out a front deck mount model with grass collection instead of the same old thing over and over again

      No, it has a Chinese engine and many other Chinese parts. And these are not parts made by Stihl in China, there are off the shelf parts made by Chinese companies.

    Could you explain the difference between the RT 5097 and the RT 5097 Z please? Cheers.

      @STIHLGB  3 года назад +1

      Hi, thanks for your comment. The RT 5097 Z has a twin cylinder engine, so it has more horsepower than the RT 5097. We would recommend the RT 5097 Z if you have a particularly hilly area to mow or you are regularly cutting longer grass. I hope this helps. Thanks, STIHL GB

    I have a question for owners of Stihl Ride on RT5112Z . Can this mower be set up so as to Mulch the grass out of the back Chute ? I tried to do this by removing the grass collector but the mower refused to start with the grass collector box off the machine. I have the grass mulching plug that works fine and throws the grass out underneath but I would prefer if I could "spray" the grass backwards out of the grass chute as I drive along. I am almost positive I saw a different make of a rideon mower perform this action.

    • @STIHLGB
      @STIHLGB  2 года назад +1

      Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment. You’re correct - there is a safety switch that prevents the machine from running without the grass box fitted. Unfortunately it’s not possible to mulch and discharge from the back, as the mulch plug blocks the grass chute opening. Cutting roughly a 1/3rd of the grass blade when mulching will make the cut grass much less visible on the lawn surface, meaning there’s no need to spray the grass over a wider area. Alternatively, we do have a deflector that can be fitted, which won't spray it but will just leave the cut grass in a line behind the mower. It’s good for meadows or rough grass where you don’t really care what it looks like and you just want it cut as quick as possible! It’s the closest you’ll get to turning it into a side-discharge model. The deflector also presses the safety switch, meaning that you can turn the ignition on etc, and from a safety angle stops anyone reaching down the chute while the blades are turning. I hope that helps, but let me know if you need any further information. Thanks, STIHL GB

      You need the defection box also they are around £60

      That safety switch was the first think I by-passed in the very first time I us3d the garbage. The collector was filled after 20 metres or so, and it's annoying to constantly empty it.

      @@DamageItYourselfsome manufacturers do show the peak hp as well as the hp at the working speed the machine operates, for example at 2700 RPM for the RT 4082. We show the hp at the working speed of the machine as this is what you actually get from the machine. It's probably also worth mentioning that other European countries sometimes use a slight different measure of horsepower. Thanks, STIHL GB

    Is there a way I can remove the grass collector and still cut?

    • @STIHLGB
      @STIHLGB  4 года назад +1

      Hi Henry, thanks for your comment. Most of our ride-ons can be fitted either with a deflector, so that you can cut and drop the grass cuttings (the deflector stops the cuttings from flying all over the place!) or can also be fitted with a mulching kit, so that you can mulch the grass instead. You can find the details of all of the accessories here: www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/STIHL-Ride-on-Lawn-Mowers/0112269/Ride-on-Mower-Accessories.aspx
      But let us know if you have any queries relating to a specific model of ride-on mower. Thanks, STIHL GB
