Thanks for doing this again! Your recommendation of The Lighthouse Family book series last year was the hit for our summer and the beginning of one of my sons actually beginning to sit and focus for read aloud time.
Ahh Rachel!! But have you tried reading Peter Rabbit in a British accent?!?! 😂😂😂 You must try it in a British accent, it really gives it something extra. Don't knock it 'till ya try it! 😂😂
Any time my library didn't have a book on the Gentle+Classical list, I put in a request for them to buy it. I smile every time I see Rattletrap Car on the shelves there now (and bought my own copy as well!)
Always love read aloud videos! I don’t really love Beatrix Potter either, but my mom loves them and collected them when I was little. 😊 Our favorite read aloud this year was The Great Turkey Walk. ❤
I remember that one from when I was a kid doing Sonlight! And sometimes we might not like something ourselves, but can get some warm and fuzzy feelings about it from associating that thing with someone special who loves it.
When me daughter was 5 or maybe 6, I had her read aloud The Tailor of Gloucester by Beatrix Potter. We encountered word after unfamiliar word that had to be looked up (mainly clothing and dressmaking terminology from a bygone era). I finally asked Google what grade level it was. I seem to recall it was 7th or 8th grade!
I don't like Beatrix Potter either! I thought I was the only one lol. I was cringing every time my daughter wanted to read them as a preschooler, so I quietly donated them 😉
lol...okay, I was wondering if anyone would be with me in this or if I would be all alone. I have read them, I've read them multiple times...and finally I'm like, you know what...I genuinely do not like these stories. Love your quiet donation strategy. Someone else will enjoy them.
i dont like them but we read who was beatrix potter and then my 10 year old wanted to read one of the books. we read the one about the squirrel, horrible what happened to him cuz i kept wondering how he was gonna live without a tail.
We've had several books we have really enjoyed this year. I've paired our read-alouds to match what we were learning about in history. The first book we read out loud was Noah's Ark and the Mount Ararat Adventure by John Morris. This book really captured my kids imagination.
My younger kids are girls but wen my boys where younger we read a lot of car and plane books!!! We don’t like Shakespeare but I’ve tired to teach it to my older kids!!! We just studied polar animals and my kids kept saying why do we have to study cold places? I didn’t kno how tropical they are!!! I’m glad we taught it!!! We love pilgrims progress!!!
hahaha--my kids actually always love books that feature snow and polar animals and the like, they wish they could see snow but I would be surprised if they ever get a chance to play in snow someday...
that book was hard to read didnt like the poetry, love all the disney pooh movies and shows, so we watch those a lot. many adventures of winnie the pooh is close to the book.
It's definitely not the easiest to read aloud...I just make up random tunes to sing Pooh's songs along to, haha! I've heard that there's a really excellent audio book.
Similar to your Peter Rabbit feelings, I am not loving Uncle Wiggilys StoryBook scheduled in Sonlight's Pre-K curriculum. However, it has been the perfect remedy to put both my self and my daughter to sleep each night without fail! Bonus 😂
hahaha! I wasn't a particular fan of that one, either,...so many chapters...so similar to one another... but I was surprised at how engaged my boys were!
@@SevenInAll definitely ALOT of chapters. And I am also surprised by how my daughter genuinely looks forward to it each night even though she falls asleep before the chapter ends 60% of the time! And I just want to mention that we are loving the MathStart books. Those are fantastic and thank you so much for that recommendation in a previous video!
We read Wild Robot last year, so we read the 2nd one this year and I just find it boring. I was fine with the first, but I dread story time. I'm looking forward to whatever we choose to read next!
Man, all these people who don't go for Beatrix Potter. How funny, because I adore her! 😅 To each their own. And, certainly some of her stories are more my jam than others. But the illustrations are all so charming.
The illustrations are adorable, for sure. My problem is more with the plotlines. ha! We must allow for personal taste, I'm sure that many genuinely love the stories, otherwise they wouldn't have become classics!
Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman, is a good book. we read that but we had to break it up because im not good at read alouds and its not a chapter book even though it seems like it is.
I love all the baby (and birdie) sounds!!! ❤
Well they're not going away anytime soon! :)

Aww, that's wonderful to hear! The Lighthouse Family were the very first introduction to chapter books for my boys, they drew them right in!
I love that you are sharing books that aren't chapter books, I still have littles and I'm always on the search for good picture books!
These are great for little ones, and a few, like Coolies, will definitely still be interesting to all ages!
Ahh Rachel!! But have you tried reading Peter Rabbit in a British accent?!?! 😂😂😂 You must try it in a British accent, it really gives it something extra. Don't knock it 'till ya try it! 😂😂
Maybe THAT'S the missing piece! lol
Any time my library didn't have a book on the Gentle+Classical list, I put in a request for them to buy it. I smile every time I see Rattletrap Car on the shelves there now (and bought my own copy as well!)
hahahaha, that's awesome! Brilliant!

And you call yourself a homeschooler?? 🤣🤣🤣 I’m kidding! I’ve raised 6 kids who have all greatly disliked Beatrix Potter!

I don't like her writing either, but I do think the artwork is beautiful!
So many beautiful picture books! I just added Coolies to my library holds. :)
ooh, and also Slow Down. :) Never too old for picture books... ;)
Both of those are gold! It's hard not to get emotional reading Coolies.
Adding all these to my wish list
Yay! Thanks for hosting!

It's nice when read alouds tie into other topics you're studying!

You know, I realized I don't enjoy reading AA Milne. My boys love it though, so we listen to an audio book version.

Running ads here thanks for this beautiful video God bless.
Thank you!

I must not be on IG enough because this is my first time seeing Slow Down. I ordered it right away. 😄
It's so well done--not just pretty but educational and enjoyable to read! The 'whole package.'
@@SevenInAll Yes, just those few pages you showed convinced me. Thank you for sharing about it.
We read Wild Robot last year, so we read the 2nd one this year and I just find it boring. I was fine with the first, but I dread story time. I'm looking forward to whatever we choose to read next!
Oh no, that's never a good feeling, when you're like "I can't wait for this book to be done!"

Sounds intriguing!
Rachel do you live in Latin America? Sorry totally unrelated. Solo tuve el presentimiento, nosotros estábamos viviendo en Latinoamérica por cierto 😊
No! It would probably be much easier to teach our boys Spanish if we did. ;) We live in SE Asia.
@@SevenInAll Ohh that's amazing!! I'm a fluent Spanish speaker if you ever need help 🩷 happy to help. Thanks for the book recommendations btw 🌻
We love The Circus Ship it’s a favorite in our house. I dislike most Dr Seuss books.
I haven't heard of The Circus Ship, I'll have to look it up!
I don’t like the Beatrix potter books either
So I'm not alone!
I think most everyone has a classic that they try and try and just can’t mesh with. For me it’s Charlotte’s Web.
Yes, classics may be classics but that doesn't actually connect with everyone. I actually love Charlotte's Web, haha!
I do not like Beatrix Potter either!!
Some times we just don't click with something, even if it's a classic.
